Your example actually shows why its almost impossible to test this ridiculous claim - because you'd be trying to separate the effects of the paracetamol from the effects of the reason why people were talking it (eg viruses, fevers). You did the right thing.

Autism is largely genetic - my DHs family tree is shockingly strong evidence for this. I also think what we can autism is probably several different neurodevelopmental differences that produce some similar results and that will all have slightly different genetic and environmental causes. ASD is a massively complicated condition, so it's really not going to have an easy solution like "just don't take paracetamol."
