Charlie Kirks wife forgives the killer

strangerandstranger · 21/09/2025 23:22

To people who said her husband was hateful and what they preached was hateful, she just forgave the killer, as God would. Powerful speech.

The messed up young man who thought shooting man he didn't like was the answer, will go to prison and no longer be with his boyfriend. Erika Kirk no longer has her husband and her children have list their father.

I’m not voting who has the best character. One of our best presidents (Clinton) had bad character and one of our worst (Carter) was a very good man.

I prefer someone who will be effective in the direction I want the country to go.

You want the President to do something about crime? What part of pardoning insurrectionists, pardoning rich fraudsters, and crashing the economy while embezzelling a fortune for himself will achieve that?

MeTooOverHere · 23/09/2025 09:10

lifeturnsonadime · 23/09/2025 08:46

No one is ever going to get rid of guns in the USA. If Sandy hook didn't change minds nothing will.

There is no point in asking what number of deaths are acceptable, the answer is clearly zero.

The right to bare arms is a mainstream position in the USA. Accusing one man of hate for holding a mainstream opinion on this is absurd.

The right to BEAR arms

The right to BEAR arms

She's referring to the American right to sunbathe. The lesser known 101st amendment.

AzurePanda · 23/09/2025 09:12

@DdraigGoch how is Trump crashing the economy? You do know that Biden issued over 4,000 pardons, the vast majority relating to criminal convictions?

MeTooOverHere · 23/09/2025 09:13

BerylSnow · 23/09/2025 09:08

It's not self evident at all.

As I said above, it's risk v benefit. What are the benefits of having guns? Genuine question. The risks are obvious.

Livestock need to be shot. Livestock predators need to be shot.
Sporting competitions.
A few people need them for their work (police, security guards, etc.)
Other than that, not much.

BerylSnow · 23/09/2025 09:04

So you can't back up your claim? Hmmm...

Charlie Kirk did have hateful views. But I think people were probably referring to his anti gay, black and trans stances. I'm not sure any would claim a pro gun stance is hateful. A pro gun stance is seemingly stupid, though! You can quote me on that one.

The gun death question wasn't a gotcha. It's a logical conclusion to the debate. Well it is to anyone not blinded by their second amendment rights!

The one where, despite preaching hate, saying they’d force raped minors into giving birth and claiming it’s worth a few deaths to allow any Tom, Dick or Charlie to own a gun, they present themselves as loving and kind Christians.
And people will swallow it. Look at this thread.

Just ONE example.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 23/09/2025 09:14

This is off topic but if I get shot to death and my husband just 'forgives the killer' after a week, I will COME BACK AND HAUNT THE BASTARD

Omg at least try to avenge my death for a little while 🙄🙄🙄

Crime is already down in DC. I think it’s acceptable to let the national guard take over if the local government is unable or unwilling to take action. He’s threatened to do the same in Chicago. Let’s hope that gets the mayor to actually take steps to make the city safer.

(but considering it’s Brandon Johnson, probably not)

What steps could the Mayor take?

Get rid of guns? 😁

MeTooOverHere · 23/09/2025 09:17

Australian gun stats for example. Long term trends.
1 in 100,000 people die from firearms per year, most of those are suicides. A few accidents. 1 in a million people die from firearm murder.
USA firearms are the leading cause of childhood death. Nowhere else has school shootings like the USA nor does anywhere else have the mass public shootings like the USA.

Yes. Unlicensed guns to be specific.

Stop and frisk is very effective. And I have said this is a great strategy, over and over again in this thread.

BerylSnow · 22/09/2025 20:54

But is quoted as saying gun deaths are worth it if it meant holding up the second amendment.

I'm not entirely certain if that qualifies as anti violence.

Edited

I'm not sure that bussing insurrectionists to the Capitol is anti-violence either.

Yes because you claim no one on this thread has said that his views on gun ownership was hateful and you are wrong.

Going to apologise?

Or are you just mud slinging?

Where are the stats on stop and frisk? Genuinely curious here. Interesting to see how that impacts crime.

Also, how do you get rid of unlicensed guns? Do they not try and do that already?

I haven't said it here yet but I do think his views on gun ownership were hateful.

USA has guns as the leading cause of death in children. He was advocating for a cowboy culture where children are gunned down at school and have to go through intensive in-school training to hopefully survive an active shooter situation. They've even invented backpacks that can double as shields in a shooting.

And his view was also unChristian.

Gun death by homicide in Vermont, one of the states with relatively high gun ownership rates, is 2 per 100,000.

You actually don’t have to remove gun ownership rights to tackle this problem.

MoFadaCromulent · 23/09/2025 09:27

AzurePanda · 23/09/2025 09:06

I’m very surprised that people have focused on Kirk’s statement that a certain number of gun deaths is an acceptable price to pay for gun ownership. That’s a completely self evident statement and applies to pretty much everything in society from all forms of transport, alcohol, cigarettes, various sporting pursuits and so on.

I do not give Kirk much credit for things he has done, but in fairness to him the position he outlined with guns and abortion re the hypothetical about his daughter, at least had the conviction of logical consistency and is the only position that pro gun or absolute anti abortionists can have without being open to cries of hypocrisy.

Any of the other pro gun or anti abortionists who try and dodge the question are being disingenuous so at least his answers are seeing through his views to their logical conclusion and he didn't try to hide or obfuscate or say "I don't deal in hypotheticals" or anything else to avoid acknowledging the pain that his views would require others to go through (and ultimately himself).

They're still appalling views but at least he was acknowledging the logical cost of the views he held.

That was my post you quoted. Do you understand how commas and the word “and” work when separating items in a list?

HaveItOffTilICough · 23/09/2025 09:31

Like car deaths. How many are acceptable? You could get to zero if you took all cars away, but it’s not a realistic measure, is it?

The difference being that, while a car can kill or maim when used irresponsibly, it wasn’t designed to do specifically that.
