Why on earth would I do that?! It would be horrid!

Ok. I thought the bedrooms were too cold. Go for it.

Quicksilver15 · 21/09/2025 21:41

It’s 25 degrees in both the children’s bedrooms tonight. I really think we need aircon not heating, not sure what’s wrong with our house in east anglia, I guess too much insulation?

Not sure posting about holidays and fuel allowance in the same post will get you much sympathy!!

I'm happy that someone who can afford to holiday that often isn't being subsidised any further, to be quite honest.

pinkstripeycat · 21/09/2025 21:42

I’ve been out in a tshirt today! Heating? Eh?

padso · 21/09/2025 21:42

@Tastaturen you missed the bit where the poster said they would get it next year!

I hate 'coal' fire/log burner season tbh - so many folk where I live use one or the other, and it stinks. The horrible particles stick in damp air too. Folk burning old pallets and other unsuitable wood. Yuck.

Aren't they really bad for your health, as well?

Quite the opposite!

i hate going to peoples houses and you can tell they’ve had the heating on all day. The air is stale and stinks, your skin gets all dry and you’re sat there in a jumper sweating your pants off! Vile vile vile

Don't bite your tongue. Tell them.

I did last year, got brothers involved, talked calmly, talked firmly, sent a big long email with articles about the dangerous. They were furious and they told me firmly to butt out and not treat them as children. It got really really bad. I did do a face when mum brought it up and changed the subject. If she does it again I’m gonna say ‘well you know my thoughts on that’. Not much else I can do.

Yes, because we all live in the exact location you do, in the exact same house and are, in fact, a clone of you - identical in every way.

I can assure you it is in Cumbria. We are at 6 dropping to 1 tonight. So with a husband with health issues yes the heating is going on.

I’m guessing you are well above sea level?

I’m in Cumbria too (coast) and it was 12 degrees outside my house today……. we’ve had doors/windows open and I’m currently sat on the sofa in a t-shirt 🤣

Metcheck says lowest it’ll get through night where I am is 10.

Whenthetimeisright · 21/09/2025 21:44

padso · 21/09/2025 21:40

Especially given that the government took away the winter fuel payments for pensioners like myself

@Whenthetimeisright Do you mean your income is above the threshold? I think it's a ridiculously generous threshold!

I know I lost the payment last year. I don't know what the rules are this year.

Catsknowbest · 21/09/2025 21:44

Yep. Eco friendly is great. Risking my husband's health with existing conditions when I work hard to make sure we can keep the house warm. Not A Chance.

steff13 · 21/09/2025 21:44

It's still 90° F in Ohio, so it's not been an issue. 😜. The A/C on the other hand...

No, indeed. How frustrating. Just remind them how warm Care Homes are.

Catsknowbest · 21/09/2025 21:45

We are indeed- its been quite a dramatic drop tonight though even I was surprised; seems like we skipped Autumn 😟

That's outside - you won't be wearing a T-shirt in that temperature!

Eh?
Of course houses need to be aired, but keeping a warm enough house is hardly vile.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 21/09/2025 21:47

Toomanywaterbottles · 21/09/2025 20:32

It’s not cold, though. I’ve been in sandals and a summer dress all day, out and about. Got three loads of washing dried on the line outside.

It’s 6 degrees here. That’s cold.

Edited

“Warm enough” is not the same as too hot to wear a jumper! It’s horrible. The air stinks, and everyone’s uncomfortable. The heating will be going on at work soon and I’m dreading it

padso · 21/09/2025 21:47

and you’re sat there in a jumper sweating your pants off! V

Why can't you remove said jumper? Is it more of a straight jacket style?

Clearly the people who actually live there are happy.
If the house stinks it's probably down to more than just heating.

the point is you shouldn’t need to - your house shouldn’t be that hot!

It sounds as if you need an outdoor job. Perhaps in a mountainous area.
