Why Remembrance Sunday?

Because it gets bonus points on the competitive underheating scale?

SoMentallyDrained · 21/09/2025 22:00

Why is it so cranky in here?!

Everyone’s probably too cold.

EmpressOfTheThread · 21/09/2025 22:01

DontReinMeIn · 21/09/2025 21:58

Nope. Cos we ventilate.

No, she's saying there may be a smell if you put it on rarely, or as pp said if the radiatiors haven't been cleaned. Maybe the boiler needs to be serviced?

DontReinMeIn · 21/09/2025 22:01

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 21/09/2025 22:00

It can still be damp though if unheated. Unless you have your windows open 24/7 even in the depth of winter.

Pretty much! It’ll be on for 15 minutes of a morning and evening when a frost is forecast, only enough to get hot water moving through the pipes. Never any damp.

Arran2024 · 21/09/2025 22:01

It's chilly here but I just put on a big cardie and thick socks.

Could be! I'm toasty, my heating is on! 😊

Nah, our house is clean and well ventilated. Much better than the musty disgusting houses that are heated to 35 degrees! I mean get a grip

FancyQuoter · 21/09/2025 22:02

I am happy when it's 30 degrees in the summer, I wouldn't go for a run when it's 35, but I enjoy the summer months.

I also don't need to live with the heating on all day, and don't tend to put it on when it's just me. I wear a jumper. I am South East London, and it's rarely freezing here let's be honest. It's not boiling either.

Not everybody is that over-sensitive to temperatures, big deal.

Who has suggested heating their house to 35 degrees exactly? I don't know anyone who does that.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 21/09/2025 22:03

DontReinMeIn · 21/09/2025 21:57

It is - it dries out the air and it’s awful for your lungs, sinuses and skin.

Your dad’s consultant is the only person I’ve ever heard say being warm is unhealthy.

He sounds crap. But if he said it, it must be right.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 21/09/2025 22:04

I’ve had an extra layer of clothes on today. No heating yet.

My grip is fine, thank you.
My home has never been heated to 35°c.
I'm relaxing now with the heat on at 20°c and Classic FM. Bliss 😊

TeeBee · 21/09/2025 22:05

My kitchen is 27 with no heating on. Definitely not going on yet! !

That’s what it feels like! I genuinely don’t believe a single person who says it’s better to have it on constantly. It’s not. It is vile. Get a jumper and grow up.

FancyQuoter · 21/09/2025 22:05

DontReinMeIn · 21/09/2025 22:00

I’ll trust the consultant over people on Mumsnet who are apparently numb when it’s 18 degrees!!!

I'd love to know that "consultant" who told you that central heating is bad for you 😂

It's utter and complete nonsense. And again, proven to be UNTRUE. Do research chronic respiratory conditions and lack of heating instead of talking nonsense.

I'm just wondering what kind of consultant this person is. 🙃

AzurePanda · 21/09/2025 22:06

@EmpressOfTheThread no particular reason for choosing Remembrance Sunday, just seems a reasonable point in the calendar. We have a big house and find it’s best to get used to wearing jumpers etc before whacking on the heating.

grow up?

are you quite well?

In many houses, it's much better to keep a constant temperature than wacking the heating on and switching it off. Are you that cranky because you are cold? 😂

Nobody is offended.
If menopause is making you sweaty and exhausted, medicate it. You don’t have to put up with that.

This is third time I’ve seen you say “medicate it”…… you know it’s not that easy right?

Nobody has said it's better to have the heating on constantly or at 35 degrees.
Do you have learning diffulties OP?
Calling people vile and telling them to grow up does seem a little immature.

What a lovely, ableist comment.

I never said people were vile. I said houses that have the heating on constantly were vile. I made a comment to explain how hot it feels.

Here in Devon it doesn't feel cold yet. It's a steady 15 degrees at day here and 9 degrees at night now. It feels more like put a jumper on, winter duvet on sort of level here at the moment. Not put the heating on for a few months now anyway.

I’m in Devon and it’s been 9 degrees for most of the day today! The sun only came out at around 4pm for us when it finally reached 12 degrees.
There was definitely a bite in the air today 🥶
