I’m not much of a tv watcher but I’m about to be in bed for an extended period of time (major surgery). Was hoping for tv shows recommendations. Just trying to think of ways to occupy my time.

Have bought a bunch of books and downloaded some games to my laptop.

I loved The Sopranos. But there isn’t a particular genre I don’t enjoy.

Thanks in advance

If you're into comedy try these
Two Doors Down
Mum
Early Doors
The Kennedys
Rovers
Rev
Twenty twelve
W1A
They Shall Also Burn

Also Detectorists (Toby Jones & Mckenzie Crook) has wonderful scenery and gentle humour

Hope you recover quickly 😘

Currently The Bear, but that may be too stressful if you're convalescing! The West Wing and Frasier would be my all time favourites, but also Sea of Souls for something lesser known.

Schitt’s Creek
Flash Forward - devastated it didn’t return for a season 2!
Fawlty Towers

I believe most of mine have been mentioned.

I would only add ugly betty - watching it again and it’s fab!

AbzMoz · 20/09/2025 22:05

Hoping the surgery goes well!

After my own earlier this year (non weight bearing on feet, extremely reduced mobility) I enjoyed comedies like Derry girls, Friday night dinner, father Ted, etc and easy-going detectiving (Jonathan Creek, Death in Paradise). I found I wanted stuff that was enjoyable and distracting but that I didn’t have to concentrate on.

Vitriolinsanity · 20/09/2025 22:17

The West Wing
Tenko
Modern Family

frozendaisy · 20/09/2025 22:20

Lucifer
Ted Lasso
Slow Horses
Only Murders in The Building
bit partial to Sex and the City/And Just Like That
Wednesday is very good
Elementary (Johnny Lee Millard as Sherlock what’s not to enjoy!)
Forever
The Dresden Files
American Gods
Good Omens

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 20/09/2025 22:25

Call the Midwife. I'm rewatching them all again now and should be caught up in time for Christmas when the new series always comes out!

Also love Prison Break, Motherland and Manifest

TenaciousDeeds · 20/09/2025 22:27

The Newsroom
Dexter
Six Feet under

Cardiac Arrest
Top Gear (Clarkson Hammond May era)
Cold Feet (original run)

Doctor Who (2005-2010 RTD era)
Being Human (UK Original, couldn’t get into the US remake)
Only Fools and Horses (minus the final 3 episodes, they really were a shark jump that wasn’t needed)
The Simpsons
One Foot in the Grave

And… I’ll forever be a BBUK apologist.
