I took down some flags and DH wasn’t happy

On my commute today, I noticed someone had hung three large St George flags on a bridge coming out of our village. They have been popping up everywhere but this particular instance I thought “I’m not having that”. On the way home I pulled over and took them down.

when I got home and DH asked why I was binning three large flags I told him and he.. had some interesting opinions. He told me I shouldn’t be pissing off people in the village, that they have every right to hang an England flag in England, and that I’m being too political.

For a start, I would argue that I’ve always been quite strongly opinionated so he shouldn’t be surprised I did it.

Just as others have the right to their opinion I have mine. We have people in the village who are migrants… why should they have to look at that. It’s clear why they were hanging there given what’s going on at the moment and I’ve never see a flag hanging in the village in the decade we’ve been here so why else would they be there now.

I’m just so disappointed with it all. With the UK, with DH.

Next time maybe I’ll add to the collection instead. 🇬🇷🇮🇪🇮🇳🇦🇫🇧🇸🇵🇰🇪🇸🇸🇩🇿🇦🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

And I'm not condoning that and neither are most people. Most people putting flags up etc just want immigration control, which isn't racism.

If they were serious about bringing about positive change, they would see their MP or protest outside parliament.

The flags are a fuck you to immigrants because they have lied to themselves that the immigrant next door with the nice car was provided with it for free by the council.

Yet the three people who started all this flag flying have styled themselves the "Weoley Warriors" - they're clearly up for a fight.
And how is flying the St George Cross flag synonymous with wanting immigration control? What's the connection? They could just put up signs saying "We want immigration control". Please stop being so disingenuous - it's not fooling anyone.

More ignorant shit.

People are not "against their country" because they object to a racist campaign which has co-opted the English flag. They are standing up for British values that are in short supply these days.

And frankly, people should not abandon their private property in a public place where it is likely to cause a nuisance. It's to be expected that the items may be removed. Indeed, it could be argued that responsible citizens have a duty to remove such items in order to minimise harm to the community.

So litter pickers should not take the law into their own hands? People who pick up other people’s dog poo/ remove graffiti/ clean dirty park benches?

You need to go to bed, you’re incoherent.

No, we can stay because it's our country too!

The people who went on that march went to hear Tommy Robinson speak about his anti-Muslim hatred.

Many of the flags have been bought by openly racist orgs like Britain First.

Your comment about neighbour's having a nicer car speaks volumes..

Tell me then, what does it speak?

PaxAeterna · 19/09/2025 02:38

I’m both with you and against you. I hate the flags (and I’m not in England, I’m in Ireland where racists have been inspired to put up Irish flags in the same manner. Even more annoying as the Irish flag is supposed to be about unity) but ultimately I think they need to stay. Leave them stay. Take away the power by ignoring them.

You leave first then. You don’t like the way the UK handles immigration so don’t let the door hit you on your way out.

Or does the censorship of complaint only apply to non-white Brits and immigrants ?

But you don't have to stay either if you don't like people taking down your flags.

It's you who's being disingenuous and assigning meaning to this that isn't there for a lot of people.

Again, once the flags are on public property, they don’t belong to anyone. You don’t get to use public property as a home and showcase for your flags.

Shall I come and stick a Palestine flag on your house? After all, it’s not your place to interfere right?

One man’s treasure is another’s trash. No one has the right or “freedom” to intentionally display their trash/ treasure on public property.

I dunno, you could go to Georgia or somewhere. They seem to like the St George's flag.

I feel it's unpatriotic to let this country get taken over by racist idiots.

So leave. You don’t like the OPs actions, you don’t like immigration. So go. Or are you just trying to censor those that disagree with you? There’s a word for that- it’s called being a hypocrite (since I clearly need to spell it out to you).

The patriotic men and women who fought to save this country in WW2 against the far right wouldn’t claim you.
