I took down some flags and DH wasn’t happy

On my commute today, I noticed someone had hung three large St George flags on a bridge coming out of our village. They have been popping up everywhere but this particular instance I thought “I’m not having that”. On the way home I pulled over and took them down.

when I got home and DH asked why I was binning three large flags I told him and he.. had some interesting opinions. He told me I shouldn’t be pissing off people in the village, that they have every right to hang an England flag in England, and that I’m being too political.

For a start, I would argue that I’ve always been quite strongly opinionated so he shouldn’t be surprised I did it.

Just as others have the right to their opinion I have mine. We have people in the village who are migrants… why should they have to look at that. It’s clear why they were hanging there given what’s going on at the moment and I’ve never see a flag hanging in the village in the decade we’ve been here so why else would they be there now.

I’m just so disappointed with it all. With the UK, with DH.

Next time maybe I’ll add to the collection instead. 🇬🇷🇮🇪🇮🇳🇦🇫🇧🇸🇵🇰🇪🇸🇸🇩🇿🇦🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

I say what I see. I'm sorry if that offends.

When I think back to 30 years or so ago, if someone had said to me that one day I'd be called a racist for flying the Union Jack, in order to try and stand up for freedom of speech in my Country, I'd have thought they'd gone mad and would never have believed it possible that that day would come.

Unfortunately it has, and I'm shocked that people think it's ok to tarnish everyone as racist, just for wanting to speak out against what's happening to this Country.

You're always going to get the dickheads who are racist, and I don't agree with them at all.
But, the 'lefties' are labelling literally everyone who supports the march and the flags as the same.

We are NOT all racists, just like not all people who go to football matches are hooligans.
Why can't some of you grasp that?

If you go to a march organised by Far right, racist neo-Nazi ‘Tommy Robinson’ then by default you are supporting his cause.
If you are putting flags up at this time when you’ve never done so before, you are supporting the Raising the Colours movement organised by Far Right actors.

That's your opinion. I don't think most people agree with you though, sorry to disappoint.

I actually think most people would agree. In the absence of a proper poll, we will never know.

I’m one that definitely agrees ✋

If you want to march with the far right I’ll judge you accordingly.

We don't need a MN poll, the World has seen how this Country has taken a stand, a very impressive one at that.
I wonder if there'll be two million at the march next year, don't worry though, I'm sure your anti protesters will double in size at the next march too, to 10,000 people maybe?

Or maybe not.

Sure, as long as you don't mind not being allowed to listen to music, wear jeans, ride a bicycle, get an education or choose who you partner with. I mean, that's the worst case scenario, but when 25% of British muslims say they want sharia law in this country, we shouldn't be too complacent.

You realise that if there are no shariah services then Muslims can’t get married or divorced?

Is it just Muslims that you think don’t deserve a religious Islamic wedding with an Islamic marriage certificate?

Or will you also say Christians shouldn’t have church weddings? Jews can’t have Jewish weddings?

When Muslims say they want shariah, they want to do basic things you take for granted.

I wasn't talking about a MN poll, I was talking about a national poll. There is no evidence either way to tell us what the majority of the population thought about the tiny minority of the population who attended the Tommy Robinson racism march.

You can carry on dreaming about the size of your marches. You're starting to sound like Trump talking about his inauguration. Enjoy your alternative facts if they make you happy.

What traditions are being eroded? People keep saying this but the examples they give are that it is a financial burden and ‘it’s not fair’. Thats not fundamentally British, or eroding British values.

I'll give a couple of examples:

Queuing. Apparently we don't do that anymore.
Tolerance of difference
Acceptance of homosexuality
Anti-racism and discrimination
Being able to peacefully walk around a town while female, unchaperoned, wearing normal clothes
Women not in full burka
Everyone speaks, reads and writes the English language
Paying taxes to the government and following employment legislation to protect human rights, health and safety
Flags of other countries flown from British buildings, e.g. the Pakistani flag being flown in Birmingham
Young white girls not being raped en masse
Police arresting the perpetrators of crimes, rather than the victims

It's true that there is also a financial burden when you allow thousands of people to enter the country. But the effect on culture is even more serious to me, especially the risk to women and children. Having thousands upon thousands of young men from countries where women have no rights, men who think white women and girls are fair game, is just stupid and unsafe. There was an arrest just recently of a Sudanese man who assaulted a girl, who protested, "I was only touching her" because apparently he didn't even know that was illegal here. Another (also Sudanese migrant, I believe) snatched a five year old girl off the street where she was playing out, locked her in a room, and assaulted her.

There are no ‘illegal migrants’. That’s a term started by Trump and of course Farage and far right just copy everything.

These women and children are just collateral damage. Those in favour of open borders and mass immigration think this is a price worth paying for having achieved a utopian dream, which sounds lovely in principle, but can never work in reality. They believe their ultimate aims are so good, it justifies the means, and the suffering it causes.

If you don't want to abide by the laws of the country you live in, that's fine. Don't live here. We have marriage and divorce in this country - why can't Muslims have a religious ceremony but a legal marriage, as Christians do? We have laws that are designed to be fair (as opposed to weighting a man's word twice as heavily as a woman's, as in sharia). If people don't want to live under those laws, tough. Those are the laws! If you want to live under sharia law, live in a Muslim country. There are lots of them to choose from.
