Always been fascinated by tea and kind of like the good quality ones but has never been a habit for me. I have recently decided to stop drinking coffee for various reasons and incorporate more tea onto my life. I like black tea and green tea, not a big fan of the fruity infusions. What are the best brands? Do you usually drink it loose or in a bag? Teapot or straight into the mug? Milk? How many cups a day do you drink?
Curious and fascinated by the tea topic that’s all :)

I'm a tea addict. For an everyday bag, I think Typhoo are the absolute best. I've tried every single other brand over the years and have yet to be persuaded otherwise. For a posh cup, I love the various Fortnum and Mason teas and will ask for them as gifts.

For non "black" tea, I love a Rooibos.

macshoto · 19/09/2025 10:56

More of a coffee drinker than tea, though regularly make peppermint (and less frequently chamomile) to drink before bed.
Mainly make tea in the afternoons, on the weekend, after gardening or other activity where I feel I need some more hydration.
If I am making tea, it’s Fortnum & Mason teas (choice of English Breakfast, Darjeeling, Smokey Early Grey (with a bit of Lapsang Souchong added to leaven the perfume of the bergamot), Lapsang Souchong, or Chai) all loose leaf, made in a modern glass teapot with built in infuser, served black in an Irish pottery mug.

About 8 mugs of decaff tea a day. I start the day off with a caffeine tea - and when I can be bothered I use leaves....it makes a huge difference to the taste.

3 or 4 teabags in a mug. Leave for 5-ish mins. Dash of milk. Swig whilst still hot.

3 or 4 teabags in a mug - now that is strong tea 😮

DarkPassenger1 · 19/09/2025 12:03

I really like a couple of herbal teas: Twinings lemon and ginger, and Teapigs liquorice and peppermint. Both delicious.

iusedtohavechickens · 19/09/2025 12:10

My favourite is Fortnum and masons, but that’s my treat now and again! I like English breakfast tea and have oat milk as have recently become intolerant to dairy.

Musicaltheatremum · 19/09/2025 13:04

I drink Yorkshire tea. We make flasks if it which gives 2 mugs each. I have a cup at breakfast, one after the gym
2 in the afternoon and occasionally an extra one. My husband drinks early grey decaf in the evening when I have an elderflower drink and he has another one in bed watching the TV
I have milk
Husband has it black.
Love my tea.
At the weekend we have 2 cups in bed before getting up.

daffodilandtulip · 19/09/2025 13:11

I drink too much tea. Too much. I live on supermarket tea in the week. Brewed like a builder, just milk.

My weekend treat is Assam loose leaf, in a teapot, with a jug of milk; sitting at the kitchen table watching the morning sun.

This thread has made me want to try spiced chai, and I'm also fighting a losing battle at giving up my bedtime cup by replacing it with a herbal sleep teabag.

MeinKraft · 19/09/2025 13:12

I drink 3-4 cups a day. Punjana with a dash of milk, out of a china cup. Mugs are for coffee. Does anyone else take a cup of tea up to bed at night?

Itiswhysofew · 19/09/2025 14:08

One cup of Barry's tea in the morning, bag, milk, no sugar, in China mug from DM.

Cup of camomile in glass mug, some evenings.

InMySpareTime · 19/09/2025 16:33

English breakfast tea in the morning, Assam tea in the afternoon and a nice Lapsang Souchong for the evening. No milk or sugar, my favourite teapot is a 1 litre Price & Kensington, but I also have an infuser teapot and a couple of backup teapots for emergencies.
I have a lot of Bird and Blend, used to get T2 before they started shipping from Australia.
This is my favourite mug:

Try Rooibus tea. (Red Bush). It's different and it's nice.

I’ve never drunk tea. I hate it. The smell of it makes me heave 🤢
The British obsession with it is a complete mystery to me.

Other people don't hate it. They like it. The smell doesn't make them heave.

HTH

Wilxie84 · 19/09/2025 18:50

I'm another regular tea hater, the smell makes me nauseous and used, wet tea bags make me very squeamish 🤢.
I do occasionally drink peppermint or lemon & ginger tea, I also got very addicted to raspberry leaf tea towards the end of pregnancy! 🤣
Edited to add I'm fine with fruit/herbal tea bags...it doesn't make sense to me either!

Katemax82 · 19/09/2025 18:58

Sainsbury's own extra strong tea bags for me. I have a cup first thing, then probably 3 more during the day. My 19 year old sons drinks a lot of tea too. I bought a teapot this morning but before that it was teabags straight in the cup

Sometimes, if dh isn't around and I have the bed to myself

PinkiOcelot · 19/09/2025 19:08

I prefer Rington’s tea bags. I have a couple of cups every morning.

PrincessofEuphrania · 19/09/2025 19:09

I love Tea. I love drinking my tea from a cups and saucer. I do have a lovely Sara Miller mug which I also use. To me the whole process of making tea is as soothing as the actual drinking of it!

Greenwriter76 · 19/09/2025 19:21

From a family of big tea drinkers. I have started the day with a cuppa since I was a child. I used to easily drink 4-5 cups a day plus coffee.

Nowadays I usually have decaf tea or coffee for the rest of the day, after my first proper cuppa in the morning. Plus a frothy coffee.

Yorkshire teabags are my favourite but PG Tips are cheaper and still nice, so usually those.

I drink it with a dash of milk and no sugar.

soupyspoon · 19/09/2025 19:34

Yorkshire teabags, brewed in the mug, strong, very strong, full fat milk

I drink coffee in the morning and the afternoon but in between I drink about two cups of tea. I just bought these cute teacups that are bone china but not too delicate, they are about 6 oz which is a perfect size for me. I drink mostly black but infused with vanilla, caramel or other such flavouring and I love a Victorian London Fog (Earl Grey with lavender and milk).

I 99% of the time use loose leaf tea that I brew per cup with a very fine mesh infuser, 5 mins for black tea and 6 minutes for herbal tistanes. I add a splash of whole milk or even light cream on occasion and add between 3/4 to 1 tsp dark brown sugar per cup depending on what I’m having. I recently picked peppermint and chocolate mint from my garden, dehydrated it an crumbled it. I add 1/4 tsp to 3/4 tsp vanilla black tea and it’s so good!

fitflopqueen · 19/09/2025 21:09

Yorkshire teabags here, bone China mug, 4 minute brew, quick stir and remove bag, add s/s milk, no sugar.
We were out of teabags Monday morning, so not a great start to week.
Drink 4-5 mugs of tea/day. I may have 2-3 coffees per week in comparison.

Dont really like fruit or posh teas although peppermint is tolerable.

Diversion · 19/09/2025 21:14

Yorkshire teabags made in a huge mug, no sugar and just a drop of semi-skimmed milk put in after the teabag has been removed. The kettle is rarely cold at home and at work colleagues refer to my mug as a "bucket".

winterdune · 19/09/2025 21:50

Loose leaf tea only using a chatsford teapot with built in strainer. 1 pack of Sainsburys Assam combined with 1 pack of Sainsburys Kenyan. Unbeatable - you'll never go back to teabags.
