Always been fascinated by tea and kind of like the good quality ones but has never been a habit for me. I have recently decided to stop drinking coffee for various reasons and incorporate more tea onto my life. I like black tea and green tea, not a big fan of the fruity infusions. What are the best brands? Do you usually drink it loose or in a bag? Teapot or straight into the mug? Milk? How many cups a day do you drink?
Curious and fascinated by the tea topic that’s all :)

Thomsons if it’s on offer, tetley as my go to, but actually Aldi’s own is decent. I drink decaf tea and mostly can’t tell the difference, some just need steeped more than others.

I do love Twinings Apple and cinnamon, but I can only buy it when I’m in Sweden.

JetFlight · 18/09/2025 23:25

Not a huge tea drinker but love it on cold days. If it’s very cold, I make a pot for when the dcs (teens) get back from school and we’ll all have tea, snacks and a chat for a while.

Whatsherusername · 18/09/2025 23:26

Yorkshire tea bag in an oversized bone china cup (which has to have a white inside otherwise the tea looks wrong so tastes wrong lol), made strong with 3 sweeteners (as I'm diabetic, and the volume of tea i drink if i had sugar I'd be fatter than i am) and a splash of soya milk. I drink about 7 or 8 of these a day. Which is probably far too much but I love tea!

angelspike2025 · 18/09/2025 23:31

I’m not fussed on brand particularly, I’ll drink most stuff
milky but strong. I would prefer sugar but have sweeteners because I drink the stuff all day long (teeth!)
sugar reserved for very awful days, shock and hospital tea

anything from 4-8 large mugs a day

GoodLaudanum · 18/09/2025 23:34

Clipper organic. 5 a day habit (down from 10)

Vodkamartini3olives · 18/09/2025 23:38

I drink Tetley or pg tips because I'm in the US and they are both readily available in most grocery stores. 2 cups 1st thing. One to sip and one to gulp down when it cools. Another cup with the kids when they're getting ready for school. 1 cup around lunch and 1 more when the kids get in from school. All served strong with 1 sugar. My daughter's both take tea in their travel mugs and a couple of rich tea biscuits to have at school.

JamMakingWannaBe · 18/09/2025 23:46

When I'm in the office, Clipper green tea. Made in mug. Tea bags left in then I top up again with hot water to get a 2nd mugful. I probably drink 6 mugs a day.
At home, black tea. Normally Tetley but I'm trying Morrisons extra strong bags (they're not) as I like a strong "builder's brew". I need to try the Yorkshire ones again.
I have a teapot I add teabags to throughout the day so I probably have 6 in there at the end. Splash of milk, no sugar.
Avoid Aldi's own brand teabags. They just make hot brown water.
I have peppermint and camomile teabags in the cupboard for occasional stomach issues/ nighttime tea.

MarthaBeach · 18/09/2025 23:46

I drink Twinings English Breakfast in the morning - a bag in a pot (warm the pot first), let it brew for a couple of minutes, then it's delicious - I top up the pot with more boiled water so I have 2 or 3 cups.
Then the rest of the day I drink rooibos (redbush) tea, sometimes earl grey rooibos, or decaff earl grey tea. Green or jasmine tea occasionally.
But always another cup of proper tea at about 4 or 5pm
Before bed I have a cup of camomile.

I love tea (don't like coffee), but I'm too sensitive to caffeine now to drink much proper tea. I also really loathe milky tea - just a splash for me please.

TotHappy · 18/09/2025 23:49

Hate sugar in tea. Love the taste of tea with a bit of milk, can't understand why anyone would dislike it.
I have between 3 and 8 mugs a day, large mugs, like the ones Sports Direct used to give away to everyone. Often use a latte mug. Teabag in cup, just Boiled water, leave to brew for a good 5 mins or even longer. Mash teabag against edge of mug to get all the goodness out, then add milk until its a sort of light hazelnut. Not too milky but full fat.
Prefer to drink in gulps which works well with my long brew period.
Always one first thing, always one after a meal. I feel a bit sick and indigestiony if I don't have one.

PG Tips or Yorkshire, whichever is on offer, although I'm not averse to the fancy ones if they're what's there e.g. Clipper. Can't abide Tetley or Typhoo. Switch to decaf if start to notice myself jittering.

GuiltyPleasure · 18/09/2025 23:57

Yorkshire tea is the way to go for the best tea, but as long as it’s English Breakfast tea then it’ll be decent enough. Earl Gray is nasty perfume in a cup

boydoggies · 19/09/2025 00:12

Tea is my most favourite thing in the world. Normally have 4 cups in the first hour of waking. Love to make a pot of loose leaf for my first 3 cups. Happiest when my first cup of the day is hot and tasty. I openly admire my super cuppa and declare my love of tea. It makes me happy. My consumption tails off through the day and evening tea is usually decaf. I like Yorkshire, twining, pg tips. Loathe tetley and typhoo shite. I take it with milk, no sugar. Always take a flask of tea to work with me too. I'm most disappointed that my off spring have not inherited the tea drinking gene!
And yes, i do pack my tea bags in my suitcase.

Olderbutt · 19/09/2025 00:22

Yorkshire tea is our regular brew. No sugar but not too much milk. I don't like Tetley, Twinings English Breakfast or PG tips in our water. Cornish tea is 2nd favourite for regular tea. About 5/6 mugs ( China only) a day. I also like quality Earl Grey with the tiniest spot of milk. I had the best Ive ever tasted Earl Grey, at a tea gardens in Devon last week, but I forgot to ask about the supplier. I also drink peppermint, nettle and ginger infusions.

Littlejellyuk · 19/09/2025 00:25

I have coffee of a morning, then after 1pm it's cups of tea until tea time (no pun intended). 😆

My dad always had his brewed in a metal teapot. Mums was ceramic. 🫖

Boil a kettle. 🔥
Teabag in a cup (Yorkshire tea ideally, but PG tips and Tetley are good also) 🫖
Pour boiled water up to 3/4 of the cup 🍵
Let it brew for a good few minutes,
add a splash of milk 🥛
then stir and remove the tea bag 🟫
Then top of with a splash of boiled water, to get the perfect brew. 😉
Ideally the same colour as a Werthers original sweet (as Danny Dyer would say) 😆

As I am typing this, my lovely hubby has just brought me a cup of tea. 😌

ReignOfError · 19/09/2025 00:54

I have a large mug of English breakfast tea, with milk, in bed almost every morning, courtesy of my early rising husband, and most days another mid-morning.

I have a black Assam about 4pm if I’m home, or a whatever is available if I’m out and about.

And a final mug, although I only drink about half of it, of English Breakfast about 9pm.

Obviously, more tea at other times if I have visitors, or am visiting and am offered a cup.

user1497787065 · 19/09/2025 03:45

I drink Clipper Earl Grey decaf with skimmed milk, about four cups per day. Before bed I drink camomile which I like to think will help me sleep, the same with the choice of decaf but as you can tell by the time of this post it isn’t working!

TeaAndTattoos · 19/09/2025 03:59

As you can tell from my username I love tea a little too much I drink only Yorkshire tea I don’t know how many cups I get through a day but I can get through a box of 40 tea bags on my own in a week. I like my tea as it comes no milk no sugar.

jill5676 · 19/09/2025 04:05

I love tea. Drink Clipper organic first thing every morning and then since my first child three years ago, I've drunk decaf the rest of the day (breastfeeding and now pregnant again). Started out with clipper decaf but it was so expensive, I've now switched to Sainsbury's own and can't really tell the difference. Always use teabags, tried loose leaf but felt too much of a faff just for me. Small splash of milk, no sugar.

Also have peppermint tea most nights before bed. Will drink lemon and ginger with honey when unwell and sometimes camomile. Agree with your take on fruit teas, too sweet for me and I don't like green tea. Enjoy a chai latte in a cafe.

Wtafdidido · 18/09/2025 22:45

I have cut back to one cup of coffee per day so drinking more tea. I’m Irish so we are raised on tea from infancy! Always a metal teapot. Boil kettle and fill teapot to warm it. Boil kettle again. Drain teapot and add tea or teabags. We like Barry’s! Pour in boiling water just as kettle clicks off. Pour slowly and from a height. Put tea on hob and let it come back to the boil. Turn off hi. And let it steep for a few minutes. Yea is ready. Add milk to big hefty mugs and pour I. Tea - again from a height and enjoy! Pot tea is always the best!

Same here but tea in cup first not milk. I drink Barry's or if i can get it PG Tips. Always from a teapot in a fine bone china mug. I drink about 10 cups a day plus 3 cups of coffee

BitOutOfPractice · 19/09/2025 04:23

First of all, ALWAYS in the pot. I love tea but I’d rather have a decent coffee than tea made in the mug.

milk first. No sugar.

I drink 6ish cups a day. Making tea is the first thing I do every day. That first sip is just bliss.

Missey85 · 19/09/2025 05:03

I like twinings strong English breakfast teabags 😊 I have it with milk and sugar and I leave the bag in the cup ❤️

Sweetpea333 · 19/09/2025 06:28

I have about 12 cups of Earl grey and day! I'm addicted I drink it black, no sugar and very hot. My first cup is always loose leaf. I find Twinings is the best, I can easily get 2 good cups from 1 bag. The loose leaf is strong, so I don't need much. It's wonderful!

RaspberryCloud · 19/09/2025 06:48

Tea is life!

First thing I drink every day is tea - PG Tips, Tetley or Scottish Blend, brewed in mug for 4 mins, then remove bag & add milk. Never milk at the same time as the bag!

I move onto coffee at the office but then have a 4pm cuppa, made as above - keeps me going for the rest of the day.

On non work days / wfh days I brew loose leaf, usually Whittards, with a special mug with suspended tea ‘net’ - usually Piccadilly Blend, or some other black tea. Also enjoy Twinings Green Tea with Jasmine or fruit teas in the office sometimes when it’s cold, but I’m too caffeinated! And love chai….also Clipper Lemon & Ginger with honey & fresh lemon if feeling unwell. There’s a tea for every situation 😁

Putthekettleon73 · 19/09/2025 06:51

Yes. A really special mug! I've got a local pottery one. Yorkshire tea for me. I need one as soon as I wake up, then I have one coffee then probably about 4 other cups of Yorkshire tea through the day, including one in the evening. I like milk but leave the bag in! (It gets stronger as you drink it). My family are all big tea drinkers. My nana lived to 98 so I'm hoping that was the Yorkshire tea. I drink lots of water too.

BitOutOfPractice · 19/09/2025 07:12

I bought this last week. It’s a slogan I can get behind

BlueandWhitePorcelain · 19/09/2025 07:12

I am not fussed about the make, but had to change to decaffeinated not long ago. I have it with milk usually.

I have a mug in bed, before we get up - we take it in turns to make the drinks and feed the cats. I have one mug of cafetière coffee with caffeine for breakfast - my treat for the day. Then a mug of tea after lunch and dinner; and sometimes one mid morning and mid afternoon.

I’ll also drink green tea, jasmine tea, peppermint, fennel, and lemon and ginger for a change, in pursuit of my supposedly caffeine free life. I’ll always drink Chinese tea with Chinese food. There’s one restaurant, we go to, and I always have a bubble tea afterwards - mango milky tea with passion fruit popping pearls!

DD had gone to Wembley for 4 outfits for a wedding in India. We popped into a cafe for a sit down. For some reason, I decided to try chai masala and loved it. I’ll buy a box when I remember!

We’ve just been to Malaysia and I loved teh tarik, which I suspect is made with condensed milk, evaporated milk and a shed load of sugar. However, I won’t be drinking much of it here; got to think about the sugar!

The best tea ever is a raspberry tea in a Polish cafe - I don’t know what tea it is, but it has in it, has a shot of raspberry syrup, fresh raspberries, and spices (like star anise iirc)!
