Who is Alex Jones to you?

I read a news article that mentioned Alex Jones in passing, and in a very negative context. I voiced my surprise aloud to my DH and adult children.

DH said "wow, yes, she always seemed so nice on the Shop Well For Less programmes and that sort of thing. Lovely Welsh accent."

Adult DC said "he's an absolutely evil frothing fascist conspiracy theory nutter, where the hell have you been?"

According to the kids, everyone knows who that Alex Jones is, and I live in my own little PG Rated universe away from all the nasty things, for which they envy me. DH says why would anyone not following American culture wars know about some ranting lunatic in Texas, whereas knowing who presented the One Show is pretty common knowledge even if we don't really watch it.

I realise we're living in parallel world, so I wondered who was more typical of Mumsnet -

YABU - Alex Jones is a male American conspiricy theorist and far right nutcase

YANBU - Alex Jones is a female Welsh television presenter who seems perfectly nice

Far right Sandyhook denying penis pill salesman.

But I am obsessed with knowledge fight so that may skew things.

I am aware of both people with very common first and last names!

I do in fact know of both but I'll admit my first thought is the not-king-of-conspiricy-I'm-the-king-of-reality one.

I always think of One show presenter Alex Jones first but I am aware that the other one got sued for saying Sandy Hook was a Hoax.

I thought of the man first but only because I assumed a thread started on MN would be about him as currently posters start a lot of threads about the US alt- right.

My school age teens seem to know of all the weird right wing trumpy people, presuming that’s who this is.
regardless of their politics or even interest in politics, the majority kids know them because of the way they use the various social media platforms and lots of the teens know and talk about the crap these people spout, whether for or against their views.

I’m aware of both people, they cannot be confused. Welsh Alex Jones seems like a lovely person, great on the one show when they have trickier guests and items. Evil American chap not so nice!

I know someone IRL whose name is Alex Jones and he is neither of them.

The nutter that got sued into oblivion for his conspiracies about Sandy Hook. That American judge really went for the throat with him. Wasn’t it over a billion USD that he owed in restitution to the families?

That one's Aled, I do know that one - although he only sang it on the Toys R Us advert and not in the actual Christmas programme.
