Who is Alex Jones to you?

I read a news article that mentioned Alex Jones in passing, and in a very negative context. I voiced my surprise aloud to my DH and adult children.

DH said "wow, yes, she always seemed so nice on the Shop Well For Less programmes and that sort of thing. Lovely Welsh accent."

Adult DC said "he's an absolutely evil frothing fascist conspiracy theory nutter, where the hell have you been?"

According to the kids, everyone knows who that Alex Jones is, and I live in my own little PG Rated universe away from all the nasty things, for which they envy me. DH says why would anyone not following American culture wars know about some ranting lunatic in Texas, whereas knowing who presented the One Show is pretty common knowledge even if we don't really watch it.

I realise we're living in parallel world, so I wondered who was more typical of Mumsnet -

For a long time, I only knew of the Welsh TV presenter. I have since heard of the other one and his horrendous behaviour, but I hadn't thought or heard of him for ages TBH. I have no idea who a lot of American celebrities are and don't keep up with their antics.

I know of both, though I feel the US conspiracy nutter has been more prominent for longer (at least since September 11).

First, I thought ‘Welsh presenter of F1’. Turns out that’s Steve Jones. Then I thought of ‘The Snowman’ singer. Turns out that’s Aled Jones.

So I googled it. Turns out I do know the female One Show presenter. Have never heard of the other guy.

Ha ha OP, I thought for one moment you meant that lovely Alex Jones from the one show was leading a double life and we were completely unaware….

To summarise -
To most Mumsnetters Alex Jones is the nice Welsh woman on the telly.
To a significant number AJ is a ranting conspiracy loon who claimed Sandy Hook was untrue
To a few it's a typo for the fella who sang We're Walking In the Air
Another few think it's the ex-Blur cheesemaker Alex James
A couple think it's a F1/Top Gear presenter called Steve
Someone thinks it's a female football player called Alex Scott
One poor soul thought I mean Owen Jones.

I know of them both but much prefer the lovely Welsh presenter.

The American guy is an absolute turd of a man.

It's weird and cringey how some Brits fawn over the US and its celebrities. It isn't mutual - I don't think most Americans know or care who most of our celebrities are. They must think we're a bunch of obsessive groupies.
