To be sick to death of noisy cars?

Dappy777 · 17/09/2025 16:59

Is it just me or are they getting worse? So many people now modify their cars so they make a hideous screeching noise when accelerating. Others modify the exhaust so it bangs and explodes. They are so loud they wake me up at night. I have even bought some noise cancelling earphones for when I'm trying to read – in my own house! There is a motorway 2 miles from here and I can hear them even with my windows closed.

If you work hard and love cars then great, save up and buy yourself a nice one. But it isn't fair to upset others. I was walking to the shops with a young child once when one of these idiots accelerated past us. The banging and exploding sound from the exhaust made her stop, put her hands over her ears and burst into tears. The police just do nothing. I have seen social media posts complaining about these cars from fifteen years ago, and they're worse than ever.

I agree, wholeheartedly. We are close to a main road & our dog is petrified when the exhausts pop. If he slipped his lead I’m not sure we’d ever see him again. I’ve seen owners of these cars purposely making them pop when driving past older people. They’re antisocial & need banning.

Hoppinggreen · 17/09/2025 17:29

Mine is very quiet but according to some it might burst into flames at any second while I am stranded somewhere as I can't travel any distance without charging frequently, which is impossible as there are no chargers anywhere

Shade17 · 17/09/2025 17:34

Plenty of cars pop and bang out of the factory but I know the ones you mean.

Xiaoxiong · 17/09/2025 17:46

I'm utterly sick of it, there are some who seem to delight in driving around our area at 2am and the exhaust sounds like gunshots going off.

I cannot understand how it's legal! It's so antisocial.

LorelaiGilmorepoodles123 · 17/09/2025 17:50

Yes, i wholeheartedly agree. The noise of a ridiculously noisy car vrooming past boils my blood like no other noise. Its the inconsiderate and intrusive nature of it that gets me

NeedAnyHelpWithThatPaperBag · 17/09/2025 17:54

On a sidenote, electric cars maneuvering into parking spaces, sounds a bit like heavenly choir music, to me... 😳

JohnTheRevelator · 17/09/2025 18:05

Totally agree. I live quite near a main road and the number of noisy cars going past lately is ridiculous. Years ago,it used to be only motorbikes that made an awful noise, but nowadays it seems like every third car is screeching or making that awful exploding noise from the exhaust pipe. I was under the impression that there were laws about cars making an excessive amount of noise, but if there is, nothing ever seems to be done about them. I suppose there is something good to be said about the move to electric vehicles. At least they won't be able to make that hideous noise!

LividYosemite · 17/09/2025 18:16

I wonder if the loudness of the exhaust correlates with the penis size of the driver.

RaininSummer · 17/09/2025 18:21

We seem to have lots of these exploding cars roaring around here. I don't get it at all and can't help but say 'wanker' under my breath each time one makes me jump.

So many people now modify their cars

By "people" you man stupid boymen, of course.

TansySorrel · 17/09/2025 18:25

There are a lot of brainless wankers around unfortunately.

DracunculusVulgaris · 17/09/2025 18:33

Totally agree - I am autistic and find that the noise of traffic in general is one of the things which cause me sensory overload, without the added 'bonus' of loud, explosive exhausts - not to mention motorbikes! It is actually almost physically painful for me, (and many others, no doubt), I have to fight hard not to put my hands over my ears, and is just one of the reasons I have chosen to live in the depths of the countryside, up a single track lane, away from traffic

JohnofWessex · 17/09/2025 18:34

My view is that anyone who has an exhaust like that isnt fit to hold a driving licence

Ha ha, look at my Freudian slip.

Yes, it's stupid man boymen doing this!

Ihateboris · 17/09/2025 18:38

Omg...I completely agree. Just out walking the dogs and a knobhead drove passed with music blaring and exhaust popping. Wtf. Poor dogs were petrified!

I am sure it does, or his (usually a man)'s perception of it.

hattie43 · 17/09/2025 18:42

It’s the biggest source of anger and upset in our town . I think any noise modifications should be banned

MondeoFan · 17/09/2025 22:47

Don’t all jump on me but I quite like it, whenever I hear a pop and bang I turn my head to look what car it is, but then I’m into cars. The sound to me reminds me that I’m alive. I’ll be sad once all the petrol cars have gone and all we will be left with are electric.

I can hear the little c-nts as I sit here and type. That pleasure in hurting and upsetting others (like the elderly) sickens me. Every time one of them accelerates past I glimpse some grinning, cretinous little face at the wheel. Psychologically, what is going on with these idiots? Is it that they feel small and powerless at work, but when they get in these noisy cars all of a sudden they are the bosses and can dominate their environment?

I think part of it is the feeling of powerlessness. There is a certain type of man who constantly causes problems. I mean men who are ignorant, thick, charmless and boring, but who also have massive egos. So you’ve got these people who demand attention and respect, but know they haven’t got the intelligence or looks or charm to gain that attention and respect. The only solution is to make a loud noise. One way or another you are going to look at me. If it isn’t because of my personality, it will be because my car screeches and explodes and wakes you up. Either way I will not be ignored.

Exactly. How the hell do they get away with it? I know the police are stretched. No one expects them to pull over every one of these idiots. But if they’d just fine two or three the news would soon spread. Idiots generally talk to other idiots (no one else wants to talk to them). It would spread on the idiot grapevine.

Well, yes, and one of the characteristics of such maggots is that they can’t think for themselves. If the other morons start fiddling with their exhausts so they bang and explode, they’ve got to do so as well. If it became cool to smear dog crap on your car, they’d follow.

Isn't there another way you could grapple with your mortality that doesn't wake the whole town up at 2am and make my dog shake and cower in fear? Or is that part of the enjoyment?

I get the car enjoyment, I used to work somewhere where people would go out to the Nurburgring on jollies. But you expect to encounter car noise there. Not down a residential road in the wee hours at 8000 decibels.

DdraigGoch · 18/09/2025 23:31

Should be illegal to modify your car to be louder than whatever regulations existed when it was manufactured. In fact I think that quite a lot of modifications already are. Noise tests should be part of the MoT.

I think that it's an inverse correlation.
