Video of a kind man supporting his Muslim neighbour. AIBU to be horrified that this is where we’re at right now?

I guess it may be fake, but there’s no reason to think it would be.
So many threads on here about the flags and the March etc. Lots of posters saying it’s ridiculous that these things are seen as far right, racist or racist.
The exchange in this clip could have been straight out of Germany in the 1930s.

How the hell did it come to this?

This question is for British Jews. Is there any way I can express how much I abhor how the Israeli government is acting, without being anti semitic?

This question is for British pro Palestinian supporters. Is there any way I can express how much I abhor the murders and violence on Oct 7th and acknowledge that it was the trigger and contributing factor of Isreal’s actions?

I’m British. I can see cause on both sides (cause not justification) and I see victims. If I criticise Israel, I’m called anti-Semitic and if I criticise Hamas, I’m called an apologist for genocide. It is a question in good faith - not anti any religion, just anti violent regimes/States.

People are literally smearing shit on synagogues in the UK, hounding and isolating Jewish students in British universities, abusing Jewish school children and Jewish people are increasingly hiding any sign of being Jewish in public, people in the UK have openly supported the racist murders against Jew of October 7th, and tore down posters of the hostages. Jewish people have been struck by, at best, the remarkable absence of support from their fellow British citizens in the face of all this hostility and hatred. As one Jewish man put it, ' I used to think I was a British Jew. Now I realise I am just a Jew who happens to live in Britain.'

I think all this is more reminiscent of 1930s Germany.

The people responding on the tread

No, I haven’t seen that, and certainly not as the second post on a thread which doesn’t even offer a token word of support to Jews on a thread about anti-Semitism.

That's probably because it's usually the very first post but it's usually also so antisemitic that even MN feel the need to delete it before most people have read it.

It always decends into it along the way

If it's so common then surely you can link to an example?

What a heartwarming, feel-good thread. I really don't know why anyone would worry about increasing sectarianism in Britain...

I don’t think racism to Muslims is worse than racism to Jews, I was shocked at the speed with which the thread was hijacked.

I think the problem with the thread is that the original tik tok video was extremely unlikely to be genuine - as demonstrated by a previous poster who linked what appear to be several other "spoof" videos shot on the same estate from the same doorway.

How can I possibly link to a deleted comment? Stop being ridiculous. A lot of the time the whole thread ends up being deleted as well, because antisemites don't know when to stop.

You of course have the option to not believe me that this happens, but I'm not sure what good that does. I guess if it makes you feel better though, go ahead! Let's pretend everyone loves and respects Jews and that no one would ever go on a thread about antisemitism and completely derail it.

IrritableBowelCraps · 16/09/2025 18:38

This is human nature, which is why mass migration is dangerous.

Ethnic groups defend their land fiercely; and when threatened, they fight. This has always been the case and will never change.

There's tonnes of reports of Hindu-Muslim violence/rape/racism and just look at the Middle Eastern wars. They prove this. This is why people need their own countries and need to feel secure in them.

People instinctively want their own land and will resist (violently) losing it.

I have Polish friend who've gone home and they see Englands chaos as a warning that mass migration leads to conflict and should be avoided at all costs.

It's not a white thing or an English thing it's about human nature and we've been doing it forever.

Here is reference to a thread that was deleted as an example. I found it by searching "antisemitism" on here, so maybe you try doing so if you want more examples.

But again, the poster didn't say that, they completely ignored the premise of the thread (Islamophobia) and started straightaway on anti-Semitism. I do think if someone did that on a thread about anti-Semitism, they would be told they're an anti-Semite.

NotMyNigelFarage · 16/09/2025 18:40

Ffs. Always the same posters derailing threads lately. Could you not just create a separate argument thread and take yourselves off there to bicker?

How is that 'proof' that threads about anti-Semitism get hijacked by Islamophobia? It's a deleted thread with no reference to anything.

I'm starting to think you don't actually care about derailing, since nobody is derailing as much as you are. It's just the nature of the derail that seems to matter to you.

It's a staged video anyway. Who the hell poses like that in front of a Ring doorbell and who the hell posts it on the Internet. It's a nice sentiment but it's a script and an actor.

I'd be happy to stop being tagged so that I don't need to return to this shit show.

And convenient that you ignore the derailment that happened just two posts in.

And this is exactly what the people who sow dissent on social media want, to spread dissent and division and chaos using seemingly innocuous media. The OP posted this video here in good faith and now some posters are engaged on wars of words. I am not a conspiracy theorist - very much a moderate pragmatist - but i suspect that reason will not prevail while we let ourselves be so easily pitted against eachother. Nuance and rationality are vital right now

Well said. Seriously, this post was refreshing to read.
I don’t even think MN is the worst of the internet but in the past week or so, all of these threads appear to go the same way. We all have more in common than we think.

Just let them have the last word, ffs. You can't complain about a derail if you think you getting the last word is worth derailing it forever.

And you see why I didn't bother wasting loads of time digging up proof that water is wet for you? I knew you would just bulldoze and refuse to accept it like you're doing now. I'd have lost a ton of time and got RSI in my wrist since I'm on my phone and it would all have been lost on you anyway. Utter waste of time.

Now either you care deeply about a focus on Islamophobia in a thread about a staged video, or you are absolutely fine with derails as long as they're about you and not Jews. Goodness, I wonder what it'll be!

nomas · 16/09/2025 18:52

@ItsAMoooPoint

I don't think you've even read what you've posted. Based on the other posts by the same poster, the posts that were deleted in that thread would have been because the poster was saying that Muslims are inherently anti-Semitic, homophobic and 'rape gangs'.

So they're BEING Islamophobic, which is entirely different to making the thread about Islamophobia.

I see you've just deleted your post though.

How can I not question the so called proof? @ItsAMoooPoint just linked a thread as proof and deleted it herself because she realised it wasn't proof at all.

Anyway, I am happy not to have the last word. I'll try and ignore the next person who tags me, as long as it's not too egregious.

No British person (or person living in Britain regardless of their nationality) should be living in fear or victimised because of what another country is doing. Brirish Jews are not responsible for the actions of the Israeli government, and should not be treated as if they are. British Muslims are not responsible for the actions of Hamas, the Taliban, or any other group to which they are not affiliated and should also not be treated as if they are.

Judge individuals by their actions and words, by all means. In the 1930's not all Germans were carrying out a genocide either.

I agree 100%. I also would not automatically hold an Israeli person responsible for the genocide carried out by their state. Only if they defend and justify these actions should they be criticised.
