To be disgusted of drivers' reactions to I wasn't leaving

Today I visited a retail park where I bought something bulky and heavy. I returned to the car to put the items into the car. At least a couple of people asking me was I leaving, I said no - I wanted to visit at least another shop, they reacted in a pissed off mood. There were other spaces available - one was 4 bays from mine.

Why the reaction?

Sorry but how are we supposed to know?
Were you parked in a disabled space or a parent and child space that you shouldn't have been in?

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 16/09/2025 13:08

Because people are twats

Whokilledrogerrabit · 16/09/2025 13:09

I wouldn't take it personally. It really sounds like a non-issue to me! 🤷🏻‍♀️

watchingplanesicantafford · 16/09/2025 13:10

"Disgusted by"? That's a bit extreme so I've voted YABU. A bit weird for for them to ask if you were leaving if there were already empty spaces, but don't give it a second thought. You weren't leaving so they can think what they like.

CasualDayHasGoneTooFar · 16/09/2025 13:11

depends where you were parked, was it a bigger space, was it a p&c space, was it closer to a covered area

god alone knows why with no detail

Iimetree · 16/09/2025 13:12

Were you in a p&c space because they’re closer to the shops?

ToKittyornottoKitty · 16/09/2025 13:12

Such a minor none event to be ‘disgusted’ by.

PinkyFlamingo · 16/09/2025 13:13

Laziness probably.

rwalker · 16/09/2025 13:13

Not getting the drama I presume they wanted the space if your were leaving they would of waited

not something I could get worked up about

Lollytea655 · 16/09/2025 13:14

You’re disgusted by that? Genuinely?

Platypusdiver · 16/09/2025 13:18

I understand. Rudeness is not necessary and I'd be pissed off at it.

People are just so het up and easily annoyed these days. Especially when it comes to anything car related.

stayathomer · 16/09/2025 13:20

People are in such a hurry now. When you return to the car to put your ticket up and they see you’re not driving off the faces on people!!!

HelpMeGetThrough · 16/09/2025 13:43

Disgusted? Bloody hell.

If they acted pissed off, the most I would think at that moment is “sucks to be you” and then forget about it.

CalmHiker · 16/09/2025 13:45

If there were a lot of free space aroud, yes they are idiot.

If there's no space, they reacted in a pissed off mood how do you want them to react? They 're not pissed off AT YOU specifically, they're frustrated and bothered by the whole situation.

Come on, if you drive you must know what a packed car park when you are in a rush feels like?

Kreepture · 16/09/2025 13:45

it was obviously a busy car park if 4 people managed to stop and ask you in the time it takes to chuck some bags in the boot and walk away again.

VimesandhisCardboardBoots · 16/09/2025 13:51

What does "reacting in a pissed off mood" actually involve?

They can ask, you can say no. What did they do/say that was disgusting?

Eh, they're just stressed about not being able to find anywhere to park, it's not aimed at you specifically.

purplecorkheart · 16/09/2025 14:00

Some people are just rude.

Gazelda · 16/09/2025 14:13

You’ve made assumptions of 2 people from a couple of interactions that were probably 10 seconds or less.

They weren’t rude to you. They didn’t argue. You weren’t inconvenienced.

why has this left you so het up?

LaughingCat · 16/09/2025 14:18

rhomb · 16/09/2025 13:52

Maybe they had other things going on. Maybe the kids in the back were playing up. Maybe you had a face on while you were saying no. God only knows - why are you giving it headspace?

rhomb · 16/09/2025 14:19

The car park was about 85-90% full. Parked in a normal space. Some people need to get a grip and stop being rude, selfish.

OP posts:
Moonnstars · 16/09/2025 14:20

Maybe they didn't see that there were spaces further along? In a busy car park they might just be looking out for people leaving as it is easier than trying to spot the odd space (which you might think is empty but then find a small car or bike parked in it).

Indeed… 🤔
