To be disgusted of drivers' reactions to I wasn't leaving

Today I visited a retail park where I bought something bulky and heavy. I returned to the car to put the items into the car. At least a couple of people asking me was I leaving, I said no - I wanted to visit at least another shop, they reacted in a pissed off mood. There were other spaces available - one was 4 bays from mine.

Why the reaction?

Why the outrage at OP's feeling of disgust? It is disgusting that people are so rude for no reason, these days. Accepted standards of behaviour these days are pathetically low.

The car park was about 85-90% full. Parked in a normal space. Some people need to get a grip and stop being rude, selfish.

since when is muttering rude or selfish?
Do you take everything the general public does personally like that? It's bizarre.

Such a minor none event to be ‘disgusted’ by.

This. I wouldn't give it a moment's thought.

RawBloomers · 16/09/2025 14:37

They’re pissed off at that parking is difficult. It’s somewhat poor to mutter about it in your hearing, but it’s also somewhat poor to take it personally.

BriefEncountersOfTheThirdKind · 16/09/2025 14:38

I was expecting that they'd screamed at you or flipped you off

Not a quiet mutter as they drove away.

And for all we know what happened was:
Driver: spots OP at car and stops hey. You about to leave?
OP: No, I was just dropping off shopping. I am allowed to do that you know. There's plenty of spaces anyway
Driver: muttering FFS I only asked

JustMyView13 · 16/09/2025 14:50

It seems like you’re taking personally, something which isn’t about you.
They’re not pissed off at you personally, they’re pissed off at the lack of parking spaces and the inconvenience of driving round multiple times. You can either accept that, or take it personally and let it ruin your day.

GonnaeNoDaeThatJustGonnaeNo · 16/09/2025 14:55

Unfortunately many people are total arseholes

Exactly this.

Get a life please.

Flakey99 · 17/09/2025 09:49

If you stop assuming everyone’s out to get you, you’d feel so much happier. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I'm pretty sure it has always been rude to mutter "for fuck's sake" at a stranger because they're not doing what you want them to do Confused

Oh honestly, I must mutter "FFS" to myself a hundred times a day - so what? It hardly qualifies as either rude or selfish.

They didn't roar it at you did they? Although the amount of times, on MN, a person is described as "screaming" they may well have done 🙄

FirstCuppa · 17/09/2025 11:35

People seem to think they have rights over parking spaces, weirdly. I have this outside my house which has on-street parking. At least once a week I have to ask men (it's never women) to move their car into one space rather than two. Every time they get upset/angry/defiant and one even got out of his car waving his hands about at me. I had to physically point to his tyre and explain it being over the white line meant he was still in the 2nd box. It's ridiculous.

AdoraBell · 17/09/2025 11:41

Their reactions are more about them than you. Just ignore them and get on with your day.

They didn't mutter it AT her

I honestly wouldn’t have remembered this insignificant incident for more than 5 minutes.
