How will you mark the occasion? Cheering him on as he parades through London? Trying to catch a glance? Not caring? Etc

No, I’m happily out of the UK right now.

Thunderdcc · 17/09/2025 10:34

I'm here for the dresses, I like seeing the Royal Family all dressed up.

GasperyJacquesRoberts · 17/09/2025 10:46

Apropos of nothing, do convicted criminals and sex offenders have to apply for a visa to gain entry to the UK?

RIP Janey Godley. An extremely funny woman who didn’t suffer fools gladly.

She was a nasty cry bully who would sic her many followers onto anyone who disagreed with her - even very small accounts with few followers of their own.

I feel no emotion whatsoever about this visit.

That’s quite depressing and scary in itself, I think. The whole world should be angry about Trump and him being courted by intelligent people who know exactly what he is imo.

Bjorkdidit · 17/09/2025 18:18

Forgive my ignorance but why did we have to invite him?

Couldn't we just have 'forgotten' or claimed it must have got lost in the post?

Shakeoffyourchains · 17/09/2025 18:18

Tbh, I'm fairly confused.

Just last week everyone and their dog was outraged at Mandelson having a government job because of relationship with Epstein. Yet, this week we're rolling out the red carpet and bunting for one of his best mates.

Strange times.

EasternStandard · 17/09/2025 18:35

I’ve asked Alexa to change the radio every time it’s covered. I just don’t have the bandwidth as they say

I saw a pic on a news app and that’ll do

WolfingtonBear · 18/09/2025 05:57

Good Morning Britain did a poll on X asking if people were bothered about Trump’s visit. 74% said they were fine with it. It was a refreshing surprise. MN is such an echo chamber.

RedRiverShore5 · 18/09/2025 06:01

I don't think this OP is in the UK as it was known here that he wasn't parading through London

AGroundhogYear · 18/09/2025 06:06

On X, you say.

I left x because it grew to be politically too right. Far right under Musk’s ownership.

I was just read that properly conducted polls are sometimes wrong, A twitter poll would be highly suspect.

RedRiverShore5 · 18/09/2025 06:09

I'm also mainly here for the dresses

Serpentstooth · 18/09/2025 06:22

This is the equivalent of the tiresome couple you met on holiday turning up on your doorstep after they mistake an exchange of polite pleasantries for an invitation. Even though personally invited by PM, it's an annoyance

I would take the Good Morning Britain poll with a pinch of salt. What you are saying is 74% of the people who could be bothered to vote out of those who watched Good Morning Britain on that particular day were fine with it. Hardly a true representation of what the whole country thinks

What I do know is what I have seen with my own eyes in Windsor over the past few days is that the Trump protesters outnumbered the MAGA gang. Mostly people were there for the pomp (from what was open to the public) and that included tourists.

Dolphinnoises · 18/09/2025 07:54

I think Trump is awful and I’m fine with the state visit. It’s what we do to help with foreign policy. The man is a total baby narcissist who likes celebrities and shiny things. Fine. Let him have the chance to flirt with Kate (well done Kate, have a large glass of wine at the weekend) and hang out in a palace, have all the trumpets etc. It might help.

According to Katy Balls in The Times this morning US journalists were asking if Mayfair is safe at night (!) so it might also do some good having US journalists realising that London isn’t actually a war zone.

scalt · 18/09/2025 08:24

Is he still alive? Or will it actually be Boris Johnson wearing a Trump mask? How much bad news will the spin doctors be burying on the day? And how much crime will be going on while the the police are busy with this?

I shan’t be watching to find out, my TV shall be firmly OFF, as it was for Trump’s inauguration, Platty Joobs, the Queen’s funeral, the coronation, and every single one of Johnson’s “don’t kill granny” death speeches.

Westfacing · 18/09/2025 08:50

Driving Trump around the empty grounds of the Windsor Castle estate was such a funny spectacle - it's like a toddler in a toy car!

I have only watched a few excerpts of the coverage - did they show much of this carriage procession?

Totally bizarre!

Dorabledoreen · 18/09/2025 08:58

Kate must have drawn the short straw at the banquet. Imagine having to eat dinner and make small talk with Trump.

Particularly when it’s been well documented that he stinks to high heaven 🤮

Breadpool · 18/09/2025 09:01

I bet he did an under the table knee squeeze on her. He would love the thrill of that in the setting and making her feel uncomfortable.

What of? Elon Musk?

The other day, I decided to do some plane spotting, at an airport in Essex. On a road round the back of the airport which is usually very quiet, it was crawling with police and people. It turned out Trump was using the airport, and the crowds had turned out to see the helicopters land; I genuinely didn't know that's where he would be! I thought he would be flying from an RAF base or airfield, not a mainstream airport used by the cheap airlines such as Ryanair.

SnoopyPajamas · 22/09/2025 11:58

I watched a bit of that conference today. Starmer didn't come off very well. Like a nervous lettuce, I thought. I can't imagine how it's going behind closed doors.

Also, I hadn't realised what a disparity there was in their heights. I can't work out if Trump is much taller than I thought he was, or if Starmer is tiny!
