To think there is some kind of weird push towards the far right?

I’m the first to admit that I am not the best informed - I prefer to keep my life stress free and simple as much as possible, and don’t have a TV, don’t read papers, and only listen to the radio when I’m driving (which is quite often). For my own mental health I prefer to live in my own little bubble.

But even with my limited exposure to media, I’ve noticed on Radio 2, both on the news and Jeremy Vine’s show, Reform are being given so much air time considering their paltry amount of MPs, the polls are being discussed regularly even though we’re years from an election. More than once listening to the radio I’ve thought the way they’re talking makes it sound like Reform winning the next election is a done deal, and thought to myself that this is how self fulfilling prophecies happen.

My algorithms on FB are seriously messed up. Despite having never been remotely interested in anything in the least bit right wing, all of a sudden I’m getting endless posts from knuckle dragging ‘patriot’ groups that I don’t even follow, with really horrendous and openly racist comments, thousands of them, which somehow FB are allowing to remain even though any kind of hate speech has always been censored on there. Why are these posts suddenly being allowed and pushed in my face?

Alongside this there seems to be a new story pretty much every day about the latest scandal involving Labour (again reported by the BBC), ok these things aren’t great although compared to the Tories’ rap list from their last spell in government, are fairly small fry really. It seems like there’s an active push for people to rebel away from the left just as the far right are gaining momentum.

Has anyone else noticed this or am I talking shite?

To be disillusioned with the Labour party is like being disillusioned with a firefighter for not saving every single belonging in a house that's been engulfed in flames for hours. Honestly, just look at the stats. They're doing as much as they can with all the shite they've inherited

"Let's blame the Tories" - how original !

As soon as Labour got hold of the reins they scrapped the Rwanda plan and set about robbing pensioners.
That made them about as popular as a turd in a swimming pool and it's just gone downhill from there.....

I don't really understand the claim of troll bot influence with regard to sex based rights.

Is the idea that people wouldn't have been bothered about the issue otherwise? Unless you think Russia influenced politicians like Sturgeon and Theresa May to support self ID, and various business and institutions to fire gender critical women, purely in order to get an angry pushback, that seems like an over elaborate explanation.

Sex-based rights are a pressure point. Vast amounts of people may not have been aware of any issues around this, but now they are primarily due to aggressive bot activity on the key messaging around it, extensive network farming, and system algorithms.

Then it shouldn't be hard to win them back.

No it’s pretty much impossible, social media is almost brainwashing for some people.

Have you thought about what has made people so disillusioned with the left that they are gravitating toward the right?

There is no justification for allayship with groups who have an agenda that ultimately disenfranchises large swathes of the population.. there are many ways to voice discontent with politicians - we won’t have a better, safer, healthier or wealthier country because thugs and ignorant one agenda led groups on the right run the country -we will have an erosion of rights -safety and fear -remember after me they came for you! and women will be on that list as misogynists take power under the guise of looking out for our country and then decide women should be in the home being controlled by their men - it’s literally on the agenda by far right leaning politicians in the USA … this is how it starts - people get lazy read headlines and fill in the gaps - yet no one does the work to change poor laws and greed that is at the heart of the imbalances in the world that drive people to migrate and most people don’t speak up as our and other countries sell arms to make profit - yet wars and resettlement and lack of water and freedom sit at the heart of world issues - don’t vote right just stop being lazy and relying on others to make your world safe - until it isn’t for any of us

So the Russian bot farms made people awake to an injustice? Isn't that the definition of woke and therefore a good thing?

So you don't think that large swathes of the population are being disenfranchised now?

Feel free to back up yours. I think sometimes we’re lacking in being able to actually discuss opinions.

I haven’t written my political opinions and thoughts on this thread other than to try and explain why it is, among the people I have spoken to, they would consider a reform vote! Telling 100’s of 1000’s of people they’re only doing so through ‘sheer gullibility’ is the entire opposite to being able to discuss!

BugEyedBear · 17/09/2025 06:35

That does make sense. I have some acquaintances who have been banging on for years about the ‘New World Order’ and I assumed they’re just tin foil hat wearing loons, but now I am starting to wonder. I just want to see videos of dogs and ponies on FB, not all the shite I am being exposed to. It’s a sudden and dramatic shift in my algorithms that’s for sure.

I think one of the things that the algorithms look at to decide what to show in your feed is the information in your "About" such as where you live, job, age etc. So, you could try reducing the amount of information you have in there. Also, it is worthwhile clearing the cache on the Facebook app every now and again. Facebook keep changing how to do this, so you'll just have to search the Web on how to do this.

BloominNora · 16/09/2025 07:51

How many sexual assaults / muggings / assaults have been carried.out by white men in your area?

I would bet my mortgage it is more than have been commited by immigrants, but I doubt you would hear people say they are intimidated by white men!

@BloominNora are you seriously saying that just because we have our own home grown deviant males (of all colours by the way Hmm)who rape and assault our girls and women, we should therefore accept undocumented males into our communities from an alien culture who routinely, on a large scale, do the same, treating their own girls and women as property to be raped, assaulted, tortured or killed for daring to leave their home without being shrouded, or without a male relative chaperone (see Afghanistan). Have you read transcripts from their lawyers excusing these men because of their different cultures which mean they don't understand that we don't habitually rape and assault women in our cultures. Take your rose tinted glasses off, @BloominNora and you will see the grim truth. I have, which is why I attend these protests again these undocumented males in my community and will continue to stand up for girls and women's safety. You carry on and protect their rights to rape, assault and intimidate our citizens Hmm.

Ours. I say this as I've been learning about the meals our grandparents used to eat in the late 40's, 50's and 60's, just to survive.

PMSL. Are you a very young teenager? Rationing ended in 1954.

Lots of us on here were alive in the 1950s/60s ourselves - it wasn’t our grandparents. We weren’t eating things like this “to survive” we were eating them because that was the fashion. My DM would have been most offended to hear that her cheese and pineapple on a stick was only being eaten because the alternative was starvation 🤣

Fawful · 17/09/2025 08:13

the point about “processing “them” faster”, @llizzie, is that once processed and accepted, “they” no longer need to be housed in hotels, which costs a lot (as well as being awful for the refugees themselves - waiting months if not years cooped up in one room, without the right to work…) and is apparently a big problem for some. You’d think those that are angry about hotels would know that once processed, asylum seekers would be granted asylum if needed, which it usually is since they mostly come from Afghanistan, Iran etc. Obviously citizens without a claim like those from Albania would be sent back. Surely processing people is a good thing regardless of the outcome, living in hotels in the worse of all worlds for the taxpayer or the asylum seeker. Did people really think that processing applications meant something else than processing applications? The UK also has far fewer asylum seekers than most other countries; and when it was revealed a few months ago that Russia has deals with warlords in Lybia to facilitate sending refugees to Europe, no one looked interested...
So yes OP, I think there’s a lot of manipulation going on, where people’s fears are stoked, by actors like Bannon and other wealthy international fascists, malign foreign powers, and US tech companies after profits and Trump favours… Not helped, it saddens me very much to say, by spineless and a bit clueless liberal leaders like Starmer…

I'm not being original, I am just stating the facts. Robbing pensioners - you're repeating the daily mail narrative, 30% of people above 65yo have a total wealth of over a million. Do they really need the Winter fuel payment? Re Rwanda plan, it was never going to work and the amount of money spent on this stupid plan is abhorrent

Well I loved Cheese & Pineapple on sticks. We had lots of variety of food too. Born in ‘64 here.
Im not sure what this has to do with the thread as I haven’t read it all, but it’s a lighthearted distraction 😄

It's not a binary choice. This is a lazy argument which preys on fears of the unknown bogeyman.

It's very much a misogynistic argument, there is a reason that most of the people on the far right activist Robinson and Musk of the nazi salutes piss up in London were white males.

There is a reason that on previous riots nearly 50% of those arrested had previous convictions for assault against women and children.

You may fear the bogeyman in the dark, that doesn't mean they are real.

Catsandcheese · 17/09/2025 08:40

I see Americanisms creeping in like undocumented …. We don’t call people who have arrived by boat undocumented. We call them asylum seekers or possibly if you follow him with loads of names or Farage ‘illegal immigrants’ which is a lie because it is not illegal to seek asylum here even if there’s no legal route to do so.

Not when any injustice, if it exists(speaking generally), is inflated way beyond its actual size in order to effect an agenda.

Catsandcheese · 17/09/2025 08:42

Also ‘alien culture’ - what does this even mean? Are they from a different planet or possibly just human beings like you or I? If they’re Muslim, that’s not an alien culture to us here!

Fascinating how people on here act as if men from the white working class are from a 'gammon' culture so alien it defies understanding but at the same time regard Muslim men from regressive countries as 'just human beings like you or I'.

thepariscrimefiles · 17/09/2025 08:53

@Honish Who are the 'the indigenous people of the British Isles'? I've googled and it says that they are:

'The descendants of the first hunter-gatherers who arrived after the last Ice Age, followed by the Celts, including the Britons who inhabited Great Britain.'

That's certainly not me then as my dad's family came to the UK in 1881 to escape the pogroms in Eastern Europe. I think it will probably exclude the majority of the population of the UK.

I know that but just making the point that it’s not alien. Good people are good people wherever they’re from and sadly the reverse is also true..

Re pensioners being 'loaded' - all the government needed to do was Means Test the payment - duh 🙄

And if the Rwanda Plan was scrapped how does anyone know if it would work or not?
