AIBU to spend so much waking time in my bed?

Have one child who is with ex half the time so half the week I have the whole house to myself. My favourite thing to do isn't to chill on the sofa in my lovely living room. I always want to take myself off to my bedroom and loll around in/on the bed.

I watch TV, read, eat, sew up there. I like the way it's so private and that if anyone comes to the door I can ignore them without being spotted.

But I do wonder if I'm a bit weird for it. I mean, I have a whole empty house. Am I daft to not be using more of it?

I do this. I hate sitting downstairs! I go to bed at 7:30 with the kids every night and wallow.

SquirrelRed · 11/09/2025 19:53

If you're happy then who cares, stay in your bed!

Sounds blissful!

i love my bed. I’d spend all day in there if I could

ForgottenPasswordNewAccount · 11/09/2025 19:56

I love my bed.
I would choose my bed over the sofa any day.

Love my bed. Also love the verb "to loll" 😛

cheesycheesy · 11/09/2025 19:57

Sounds lovely. I’m envious!

Babygirlmamahere · 11/09/2025 19:58

Not weird at all. Sounds fab.

Pollqueen · 11/09/2025 19:59

I do this sometimes, on it but not in it! Am dressed etc but love being on my bed reading or watching tv. It feels like a little sanctuary

YetanotherNC25 · 11/09/2025 19:59

One of the best perks of being single is doing what you want, when you want. Enjoy.

hididdlyho · 11/09/2025 19:59

If it's not affecting your sleep then go for it! I used to enjoy spending days off in bed watching a film etc, but I find as I've got older it makes it harder for my brain to shut off at bedtime. I must admit the dark evenings and heavy rain today made me consider ordering pizza and eating it in bed with netflix.

ResusciAnnie · 11/09/2025 20:01

God no. Bed is the best!

TaborlinTheGreat · 11/09/2025 20:01

I never do this! I sit on the sofa in my living room or in the armchair in the nook at the end of my dining room. I only really go in my bedroom to go to bed.

Athreedoorwardrobe · 11/09/2025 20:01

I'm a bed person. Very occasionally if I have an empty house I might go and watch a film on the sofa.. but most of the time I like to read or do puzzles or listen to music whilst sat in bed, even if the house is empty.
I think it's also because the kids don't come in my room often and they aren't allowed to bring any stuff in here.
Whereas the living room is a communal space. So I feel more relaxed in my bedroom.

ivegotthisyeah · 11/09/2025 20:02

Same situation and I am the same bloody love my bed! Especially as the nights get darker

mynameiscalypso · 11/09/2025 20:03

When DH is away, I almost always hang out in my bedroom once DS is asleep. I find being downstairs in the house by myself (well, being the only adult) really disconcerting and can’t really settle.

Arlanymor · 11/09/2025 20:03

Not weird at all! It’s strange how we ‘take’ to certain parts of our home isn’t it? I set up my spare bedroom with a desk when I moved as some of my job involves working from home. The printer is in there, a proper office chair. I haven’t ONCE sat at that desk! I work from the breakfast bar in my kitchen - always! Never even the dining table in the next room - always my breakfast bar!

OfKitten · 11/09/2025 20:06

I dont know, you might regret spending so much of time in your bed when you are old and are unable to move so have to stay in bed

Me too! I used to have a desk which I thought I'd work at. Nope. I have an armchair - in my bedroom - which I work in. IF I'm not working on the bed!

Totally feel the same! You just naturally gravitate towards a particular space don’t you? I love my bed too, I have to say. Even in winter I have the windows open - even if just a bit - and I can hear the boats bobbing up and down in the marina and the soft sound of water splashing. I love it!

Comedycook · 11/09/2025 20:09

I'm the same...when I watch bed I prefer to lie in my bed and watch it rather than sit on the sofa in the living room.

GingerPaste · 11/09/2025 20:10

Same here. It’s like I never stopped being a teenager. My bed is my ‘default’ place.

enok · 11/09/2025 20:11

Bed xx

AutumnNymph · 11/09/2025 20:12

Exactly the same. Am sitting on thr bed right now with the dog on my feet lustening to a book. Bliss!

FitatFifty · 11/09/2025 20:13

Me too. I’m short and don’t find the sofa that comfy (my feet don’t reach the floor), nor sitting with my legs up as they get crampy.
sitting up with my legs stretched out on the bed is far far more comfortable.
