AIBU to spend so much waking time in my bed?

Have one child who is with ex half the time so half the week I have the whole house to myself. My favourite thing to do isn't to chill on the sofa in my lovely living room. I always want to take myself off to my bedroom and loll around in/on the bed.

I watch TV, read, eat, sew up there. I like the way it's so private and that if anyone comes to the door I can ignore them without being spotted.

But I do wonder if I'm a bit weird for it. I mean, I have a whole empty house. Am I daft to not be using more of it?

I have poor vision and need large monitors and accessibility setting so do work from my desk but if that wasn't the case, my laptop and I would be plonked on the bed working.

Weepixie · 11/09/2025 20:15

I love my bed and it’s my go to place for doing lots of things.

TheOtherAgentJohnson · 11/09/2025 20:17

I work on the bed too. I hate sitting at a desk, and I like being in my room during the day - it's lovely and wasted on sleep alone. I get up, get dressed properly and make the bed first. I move to the living room in the evening.

SophieJo · 11/09/2025 20:18

What a lovely post. I’m the same as I love my huge comfortable bed during the day. We go up early as well during the winter and turn the heating off as it’s much cheaper to heat one room.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 11/09/2025 20:19

Yanbu!!

Me and dd are in bed, on the electric blanket, waiting for her to drop off

We love to hang out in here, especially during the winter

Once ive done drop off, as long as I have no errands, I climb into bed, fan on, electric blanket on and just lay down 🥰

Blanketenvy · 11/09/2025 20:21

Yeah I'm the same. I'm really working on trying to feel more settled downstairs, making my lounge cosy and comfortable but it's definitely a work in progress. I'd much rather be in bed post 6pm. Since I got a dog (who can't go upstairs due to cats) I have to spend evenings downstairs although still go to bed ridiculously early.

One of the best perks of being single is doing what you want, when you want. Enjoy.

Exactly! Being single is awesome 👌

SquirrelFan · 11/09/2025 20:25

I don't knowmy mum was a 'bed' personI don't think it's really healthy. It always felt a bit wrong as a child, and I felt lonely (dad not around). I like having a communal space where everyone is welcome to hang out. I mean, I was invited in, but sitting by the side of her bed was like being with an invalid.

I never do this! I sit on the sofa in my living room or in the armchair in the nook at the end of my dining room. I only really go in my bedroom to go to bed.

This. ^ I do find people who go to bed for anything other than sleeping (or shagging) a bit odd, unless they're ill of course.

Just lollygagging about in bed, reading, knitting, eating, watching TV etc I find weird. I watch TV in the lounge, and read and do any 'hobbies' or 'crafts' on the dining room table. I would be so uncomfortable just sitting on the bed doing everything. I'd get bum ache - and back ache!

I think people who watch TV in their bedroom are extremely rude and inconsiderate. People go to bed to sleep, not to hear someone's TV blaring through the wall! My brother and his wife has to switch bedrooms to the small one on the far side of the house, because of the muppet next door watching TV til midnight - sometimes later! He was keeping them awake! And trust me, it doesn't even have to be LOUD to disturb peoples sleep! Watch the TV in the lounge FGS!

Newlysinglemumma · 11/09/2025 20:27

I love nothing more than lying on my bed and relaxing! So does my English bulldog she has her own bed but always chooses mine even when I have made it all neat and tidy you will always find a big lump under the duvet snoring!!

Me too, mate! I don't do half-arsed, it's full arse or nowt.

Snowpaw · 11/09/2025 21:59

I’ve never had a tv in any bedroom I’ve lived in. I like sitting on the sofa with a blanket though every night.

Seaforme · 11/09/2025 22:08

My bedroom is my favourite room in the house, I love lying on the bed propped up by pillows reading or watching tv - or, even better, having a nap.
But I don’t do it very often because I feel guilty about it, like it’s shameful or something.
My bed is so much more comfortable than the sofa, but we are getting a new sofa soon which should improve things.

dollyblue01 · 11/09/2025 22:10

Bed for me too, just find it quiet and relaxing , it’s a nice big room, that just feels peaceful and quiet.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 11/09/2025 22:12

It’s my favourite place. I can never settle on the sofa, and don’t feel comfy unless I’m on in bed.

SouthernBelle21 · 11/09/2025 22:25

The best thing about being an adult is you can do what you want! If you're happier and more comfortable on your bed, go for it.

I remember being a teenager/at uni and spent the vast majority of my life in my room on my bed. Then as soon as I was an adult it was like it was expected that the living room would be my room of choice now. No thank you!

how can it be inconsiderate if you live alone? Nobody else can hear my TV! Ground floor…
not all homes are the same

Same - but also my TV is in my lounge as I only use it to watch rugby really. iPad in my
