Political violence on the rise.

People are getting angry when people have Political views they don't agree with. Freedom of speech must be allowed not shutdown.

Tragic news of a young family man shot by someone today. Please remember he was a human with a family. Violence is never ok.

I'm not sure that his wife and two young children are finding it hilarious right now.

But you have confirmed that the greatest threat to democracy, freedom of speech and civil order comes from the left and not the right.

I never said I was left or right actually, or are you just making that assumption bc I'm anti racism, which I think says more about your views than mine. Also, plenty of people on the right don't want unfettered access to guns.

I was talking about Mumsnet in general tonight. I said it on this thread as all the others have been taken down.

And as I write this post as sure as night follows day someone posts “He just became one of his totally acceptable statistics 😀” with a fucking smiley face.

Well I didn't see the deleted thread. If you're not going to tell us that you're talking about a different thread then you can't be surprised when we're confused

This is what I mean. Forget all else. This is a man, a husband and a father. Don't agree with him, then argue the points don't kill.

Exactly.

What makes tonight different to when Democrats were shot in June?
www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/jun/16/republicans-trump-minnesota-lawmakers-killings

It's the same old, same old.

"Cancel culture" is only a thing when the left do it.

"Protecting Free Speech" means protecting right wing speech and suppressing left wing speech.

The right have become very, very good at playing the oppressed victim, even when committing the same acts that they pretend to abhor.

Although I wouldn't whole-heartedly agree with them, I'd respect the position of those who are genuine free-speech absolutionists - but they seem to be vanishingly few and far between. See also, Elon Musk and his tenure at Twitter/X.

I think it is important to emphasise however that the US isn’t the UK and they face different problems to us.

Terribly sad for this man and his family.

The UK doesn’t have the same gun violence issue as the US.

Getting a gun license renewal here every five is difficult enough. I wouldn't like to see it relaxed. So few people need a gun in this country.

What is it I'm racist against exactly? White supremacists? OK sure, I'll take that. 😀

justasking111 · 11/09/2025 01:24

My father taught us that free speech, debate was the cornerstone of a civilised society. I still believe that. Politicians used to be much more interesting to listen to when they could debate. Now they veer between nodding donkeys or screeching harridans.

I listened to the deputy prime minister of Poland today at the EU fantastic speech. The Italian prime minister, very energised. The prime minister of Hungary. They were passionate in their opinions. In the UK ours are such milk sops

Nope, racist towards white people because of their skin colour. It's pretty transparent.

I was also quite shocked by the fact that two other threads on Charlie Kirk had to be taken down by MN for unacceptable comments.

There really are some sick people out there.

Thoughts go out to his wife and their two young children.

Are they sick?

I generally assume they're a sandwich short of a picnic and scroll on by.

BTW Mumsnet team, many thanks for moderating the threads this evening/all night. It is appreciated. 👍

You know which way this thread is going to go. The Charlie thread was one of the most disturbing blood feed frenzies I've seen. The bottom line is, you are a fascist if you are intolerant of other political opinions.

This! A man has now been shot dead for having opinions others don't agree with. Opinions which, if you watch his YouTube videos, he was often able to back up with official data.
These really are scary times.
My thoughts are with his family.

You don't know what the killer's motives were. They still haven't caught them.

Ladamesansmerci · 11/09/2025 00:16

Because we are talking about freedom of speech...which some people believe that means you can say whatever the fuck you want.

Free speech means you CAN say 'whatever the fuck you want'.

Those considered to have abhorrent opinions should absolutely have those opinions challenged, yes.

They should not be shot dead.

thebabayaga2025 · 11/09/2025 01:44

And the radicalised far left are cheering and whooping. This is the face of the tolerant, progressive far leftists.

And every single person on mumsnet or in any country anywhere else who has ever screamed RACISTS BIGOTS NAZIS! online at a person flying a flag or saying "actually I don't think we can sustain millions of immigrants and am worried about the uptick in violence in my town" shares some responsibility for this shooting. All. Of. You.

I see the vicious monsters in this thread trying to somehow justify this horrific act.

It doesn't matter where you are when you scream these abusive, nonsensical statements online. You feed the frenzy of radicalised far leftists who simply WILL NOT ALLOW anybody to speak words they hate.

This man was always pro law pro debate.

Not to mention the irony of the ones who are keen on gun control are now cheering on a monster who slaughtered a young husband and father - with a gun.

Oh and if you make any assumptions at all about me based on this post it says a LOT about you and nothing at all about me. Only an aggressive, radicalised far left loon would find anything I just said offensive or triggering.

KhakiTiger · 11/09/2025 02:00

Look at all the veiled comments about gun ownership trying to stay the right of the line but still being disgustingly hateful. These people are basically saying that he deserved it.

The ‘be kind’ left strikes again.

For clarity, there isn’t a problem across the board. The problem is on the left. It’s the progressives who threaten the gender critical women with unbelievable hate and misogyny. It’s the role on the same side of the debate who twice tried to shoot Trump. It’s the same people who vandalize businesses and generally make people lives a misery in the name of climate. The same people call anyone and everyone a racist for having perfectly sensible and reasonable views on immigration.

Visceral hate of anyone different to themselves is a potent emotion on the left. And yet they accuse other of being intolerant.

So I can't comment on the irony of this situation but disablist slurs are fine? Also being anti guns and anti racism doesn't= radicalised far left.

The hateful Marxist Antifa crowd are really gloating on this thread, aren’t they. They really are dangerous and toxic.

It's so disgusting, cheering over the slaughter of a father who was extremely law abiding and spoke words they hate.

Horrifying, frightening, disgusting, nearly beyond belief. They always show themselves for what they are.
