Wear or sell the Rolex?

Ex bought me a Rolex many years ago. I never really wore it as it was a bit tight. I went in my bedroom today and thought I’d been robbed as all my valuables were missing. Turned out my dtd had found the stash and decided to play with everything. I was thinking I should probably either wear it or maybe sell it. I’ve lost a bit of weight but still a tiny bit tight.

I don’t wear a lot of jewellery just diamond studs generally. Don’t normally wear yellow metals. I put it on and I do like it but is it just too much for an every day watch? I’m generally to be found barefaced wearing jeans and jumpers.

So YANBU that watch needs a glamorous owner rather than someone who looks like they are heading out on a dog walk.

YABU it’s nice, wear it.

Personally I'd sell as I so rarely wear a cheap watch let alone something like that. However I would also be wondering if it's the sort of thing that's likely to increase much in value and worth holding on to as an investment to provide a little pot of money in 20+ years for something (but then you couldn't wear it either as you'd devalue it with the slightest scratches). Suppose it would depend on how much the potential increase could be.

I would sell it and put the cash towards a holiday for you all. Especially since an ex bought it for you

My Dad was into watches - bought all his grandkids nice ones, and he owned a couple until he became disabled and couldn’t wear one. So when he left me a bit of money when he died, I bought a Rolex. I think “thanks, Pa” whenever I check the time.

Get Watchfinder to value it, no harm done

You see this is why i would never want to own an expensive watch, designer handbag, fancy car. Its what it represents. which, imo, is a flashy show of wealth and a deliberate outward sign of having more money than you need, or money to burn. I wouldn't accept a ridiculously expensive unneccesary gift and in your shoes I'd sell it and put the money towards something that I or my family would really benefit from. And tbh I'd rather give the money to charity than wear a pointless symbol of wealth around my wrist.

That's absurd. If you can afford it, enjoy it. Life's for living. I agree it's silly to buy things you can't afford, but if you can, then it's your money to spend as you please.
