Do people really think PIP claimants are fraudsters?!

1000 replies

Greedybilly · 09/09/2025 18:03

As someone with a chronic illness in the middle of claiming PIP I think it's important to point out it's very stressful to go through the process and actually get the benefit.
To those who were inferring it's an easy blag - I would say yes there will always be a few scammers who claim fraudulently ( though god knows how tbh?) the majority have to struggle for years/go through appeals/give up.
Just saying this for balance as I feel MN is turning slghtly into the Daily Fail.

Because there's nothing bloody wrong with them 🤣🤣🤣🤣 ohhhhhh my god.

No. It is because they have a load of evidence. I have known people to have a very easy time getting PIP because they were believed.

Why do you think everyone should have to fight in court to get PIP? That is not normal. Have you done it? Have you any clue how stressful it is?

Blinkfirst · 09/09/2025 19:27

Why would you want to know their private medical business? Do you think disabled just means you are in a wheelchair? I also know people who claim PIP (not me ) and it’s very difficult, with loads of evidence required and an interviw. It helps them greatly with affording to work part time , rather than ending up physically unable to work at all and then needing to claim more benefits, or pays for things that help keep mentally stable I.e SAFE. As for those who comment “Doctors have to believe everything you say” that’s hilarious, when has a doctor ever believed a woman

But the cuts will affect everyone.

Exactly my point. These dishonest people are taking from the deserved.

Greedybilly · 09/09/2025 19:26

@Dramallamafromyorktax the rich/corporations properly?
Young people struggling in an ever hostile and difficult world?
Thanks for your CV btw. Cringe.

They are taxed properly! The rich are taxed more than in other European states. It’s the low income workers who aren’t paying enough tax. And big corps are also taxed properly. What they do is perfectly legal!

@notgettinganyyounger-- I've asked for help from a disability charity and FB not because I'm blagging it but because the forms are hard and without understanding the reasoning behind each question/think about ur worst days and how best to word your response - you'renot going to get the benefit.

Look at Charlie Anderson on YouTube. She's disabled herself but has done loads of videos to help people.

Underlying conditions, you mean?

Steroids and antipsychotic use is not an underlying condition. Being overweight isn't just about like cake

IGaveSoManySigns · 09/09/2025 19:28

K0OLA1D · 09/09/2025 19:26

Or arthritis

Arthritis that was worsened by weight gain? My mum with arthritis in her hips has lost four stone through diet and swimming.

I stand by what I said.

@Ilovepastafortea--absolutely! I just feel like we're sliding to the right so quickly in this country in many ways - not least making claimants feel like crap.

What do you mean sliding to the right? It's Labour who want to curtail benefits.

Skipthisbit · 09/09/2025 19:29

1 in 18 people claim it. By definition, something that 1 out of everything 18 people do isn’t difficult or rare.
1 out of every 18 fgs.

Greedybilly · 09/09/2025 19:29

TheSpiritofDarkandLonelyWater · 09/09/2025 18:32

I think it is because of the financial mess the country is in, that some people see fit to punch down and blame the disabled. The press pretty much encourages it and there are enough threads on here about it that proves people are believing what the press is telling them.

I think this just sums things up for me and people believe what they are told by right wing rags. Depressing.

Great for her. But it is vastly different in everyone. You have no idea how badly her arthritis impacted her.

BuffetTheDietSlayer · 09/09/2025 18:14

What a load of crap.

It’s my experience too - it’s ludicrous that so many people are claiming PIP. The irony is the system will become so fat and bloated that there will be imposed cuts (potentially IMF) and those that really need it won’t get anything

It’s scary. How did we become so unhealthy

I think actively choosing to get to 30 stone had a role in it.

Like many people I struggle to understand why mental health conditions warrant payments that raise income to similar levels of people who work full time. Not really an incentive to get better is it?

You don't really understand PIP do you? Because it's not an out of work benefit because you can work and get it ..

K0OLA1D · 09/09/2025 19:34

MyLimeGuide · 09/09/2025 19:30

Except no one is blaming the disabled???

But they are.

There are multiple threads currently stating what should and shouldn't be claimed for. Who and who shouldn't get it. People who manage to work shouldn't get it etc.

What is that if it isnt blaming the claimant?

There was a thread stating people with RA shouldn't get PIP a few weeks ago. Why?

These threads, the media, all social media comment sections on fail articles and the like blame the disabled and minority groups.

Yes because fat people choose to be fat so they dont have to work.
Does anyone genuinely think this?

The person I know got really big due to medication and MH issues. They have fucked knees and need both replaced. They are in too much pain to exercise. But have to lose weight to be eligible for the op to start with.

weight loss is 80% diet. Weight loss jabs exist, I’m on them and I’ve lost a huge amount of weight.

ThePure · 09/09/2025 19:36

Rising retirement age leading to increased claims yes I buy that but what about the huge increase (3x) in teenagers and people in their 20s claiming? Those people presumably will be lifetime benefit claimants. I find that really concerning for them and their life prospects as well as for the state.

Plus this has only happened in the UK and not in other comparable countries (again according to IFS report)

Something is going horribly wrong. It just won’t be sustainable for less and less people to pay the bill for more and more economically inactive people.

MyLimeGuide · 09/09/2025 19:30

Yet we're the ones facing the cuts

I remember the government also blaming the recent loss to change pip was the reason why they can't lift the 2 child cap on UC
