Would you approve of an “rainbow” coalition of progressive parties?

Based on current polling, the most likely outcome of a general election would be Reform largest party, but no majority. In those circumstances, would you approve of Labour / Green / Lib Dem / possibly SNP coalition if they had enough seats to reach a majority?

Not unless the Lib Dems, Greens and SNP suddenly grew a backbone and a brain, remembered that women have rights, changed their ridiculous policies and made a grovelling apology for all the years they tried to throw women under the bus, no.

If they genuinely did the above, then yes.

I can’t stand Reform, btw, I’m a Centre Left voter.

WhereYouLeftIt · 09/09/2025 01:58

In what way are "Labour / Green / Lib Dem / possibly SNP" progressive parties?

Randomlygeneratedname · 09/09/2025 07:26

I just don't believe there is any way reform will actually be the largest party. I think the most likely outcome will be another labour majority but less than last time.

MikesMohawk · 09/09/2025 07:28

Gawd no. As a previous poster stated, they'd need to learn what a woman is before they'd stand a chance!

DeafLeppard · 09/09/2025 07:30

Also a hard no - there’s nothing progressive about those parties. I also want some party with a backbone to do something about the welfare bill, ideally by cutting the triple lock.

I want investment in productivity enhancing infrastructure (better public transport, for example), a more straightforward tax regime, reform of the social care funding and outside of that if they could just stay out of my way, that would be great.

SingingintheRadiator · 09/09/2025 07:30

No. I was a Green Party member but the way they treat women is appalling, and some of the other parties on the left aren’t much better. I’ve pretty much resigned myself to not voting at all these days.

DeafLeppard · 09/09/2025 07:31

And yes, my main reason is that none of those parties know what a woman is. And if they can’t get that right, I have no faith in their ability to make good judgements in any other area.

LidlAmaretto · 09/09/2025 07:32

Another no here. It's also unlikely. I suspect the ' rainbow coalition' would exclude Labour and include the Independents/Your Party and the ones you mentioned. Making it far easier for me not to vote for them.

Dearg · 09/09/2025 07:35

Having lived with an SNP/ Green coalition here in Scotland, I would seriously consider emigrating rather than see either party run the rest of the UK down as they have here.

Nutmuncher · 09/09/2025 07:40

Absolutely not. At this point what exactly would independents/ fence sitters have to lose with a Reform vote? The country is truly in a terrible state, Reform stand a chance of gaining further traction should the government maintain their current course of self destruction.

Swiftie1878 · 09/09/2025 07:42

No. It wouldn’t be a ‘rainbow’. It would be a muddy bog.

Ablondiebutagoody · 09/09/2025 07:43

God no. I heard the new green leader talking about the economy the other day. Sounded like a 6 year old.

PrizedPickledPopcorn · 09/09/2025 07:45

Nope. Not even under another name.

In the past I would have- we need an overhaul so that politics isn’t so knee jerk adversarial. Seeing Labour do things they fought tooth and nail against under the tories has been educational. They have no morals, no policies, and it’s a corrupt power play rather than a system for managing a country.

I agree. I do think the Tories/Reform will merge possibly with Farage as leader and form the official opposition though.

Shedmistress · 09/09/2025 07:47

What is 'progressive' these days? Sliding into degeneracy and bankrupcy?

Firdbeeder · 09/09/2025 07:47

I’ve had enough of that kind of ‘progress’. I’m in the market for a traditional Conservative Party if they can ever get back on track. Outsource all the cranks to Reform then hope people see Reform for what they are.

They are self titled 'progressive' so progressive is presumably 'Believe what I believe or you're a literal Nazi'.

ManyShapesOfPasta · 09/09/2025 07:51

Pretending not to know what a woman is and trampling all over our rights is not progressive.
If things carry on as they are I'll be voting Tory again, after previously voting Labour all my life.

GentleSheep · 09/09/2025 07:52

There would be no 'rainbow' - more like mud! And, no!

Hoardasurass · 09/09/2025 07:55

No having lived under the incompetent SNP government in Scotland I wouldn't trust them to run a book shop let alone the UK.
The greens have lost their way so badly that they're no longer an environmental party instead they are a pro trans pro hamas party, oh and the current UK party leader thinks women can be hypnotised to will their breaststroke to grow bigger 🤯
The Liberal Democrats believe that there are men and non men (ie women and anyone who doesn't id as a man and transmen) so why should I trust them with anything especially as a "non man"
As for labour we can all see what a disaster they are in government.

So please tell me why you think anyone in their right mind would go against the will of the people to put that coalition of shite into power.
If the parties that you've listed want to be elected they need to get their acts together and ditch all the "progressive" nonsense and learn how to run a country for the majority instead of the vocal minority.
Oh and before you accuse me of being a reform voters I wouldn't vote for them either, I'm politically homeless. I just want a competent party that isn't going to hand my rights to men

I am sad to say I think they could form a majority with a coaltion with the Tories and the DUP.
It would likely be a very low turn out. And what they will.do for poorer people will be far worse than what they have already done with Brexit. The economy will be ruined unless you are wealthy.

They all think women are just a feeling in a man's head, apparently that's progressive 🤪

anyolddinosaur · 09/09/2025 07:57

Absolutely not. Women are finally regaining a few rights from the misogynists and homophobes. You're talking of a party of bigots who want to cancel anyone they disagree with. At least Labour have been showing a little more sense recently but mix them in with the rest and they have no chance of getting women back.

Farage needs to be attacked over his poor economic proposals, including raising the tax threshold giving more to the rich than to the poor, and over saying he'd send women back to Afghanistan. His economic ideas dont add up - some popular policies but not properly costed so he'd also be raising taxes. He also needs to be challenged over workers rights as it's probable he'd want to destroy them.

SeagullSam2027 · 09/09/2025 07:58

No. None of those parties are progressive.

We have everything to lose with a Reform government - look across the Atlantic. A Reform government is a terrifying prospect 🤬
