I am loving The Rest is Classified. The topics I know something about (like the July 7th attacks in London) I find interesting. The topics I know nothing about I find fascinating.

KeenGreen · 08/09/2025 23:25

Following as I love a good podcast so interested in others recommendations.

Depends on what sort of things you like?

I’ve got into The rest is politics

My husband loves the rest is history.

I also love some education based ones as this is my profession,

Uncanny is good if you like a mystery / ghost story.

Fairy Meadow is good for a true crime / unsolved crime (about a missing child)

Tinydogssitter · 08/09/2025 23:26

Sold a Story - this one is great but also infuriating.
My Year in Mensa
This American Life
The Retrievals
The Good Whale

You might like Sold a Story - it's about literacy and the "Science of Reading" in the US.

Thank you I’ll check it out 😊

Fruitchipnnut · 08/09/2025 23:35

Your own Backyard - brilliant investigative true crime podcast.

Similarly, In the Dark (season 2). Couldn't stop listening!

Both of these podcasts were instrumental in the eventual court cases!

PaddingtonBunny · 08/09/2025 23:55

I like The Rest is Entertainment- very light but interesting.

‘Stuff you should know’ has some good episodes.

The Rest is politics US is good.

Lucy427 · 24/09/2025 21:34

You need to listen to We Have Notes with Liv Little and Miranda Sawyer! It's too good!

Arlanymor · 24/09/2025 21:35

What type of things do you like @Oneeyedonkey?

And have you seen this thread rom today? https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/5416383-to-want-a-decent-podcast-to-listen-to

Queen0fTheNorth · 24/09/2025 21:36

If you like true crime stuff, Redhanded.

DoraTheScottishExplorer · 24/09/2025 21:36

My go to podcasts are:-
Should I that deleted that
Therapy crouch
British scandal
Long story short

ovalisinvincible · 24/09/2025 21:37

help I sexted my boss
wolf and owl

drspouse · 24/09/2025 21:37

I really liked Sold a Story too.
Currently listening to Life Lines (BBC radio drama about an ambulance call handler).

CheeseWisely · 24/09/2025 21:42

Mixed bag of subject matter but my go-tos are;

Stuff you should know
A short history of
Casefile
Patented (no new eps but a good back catalogue)
Ladykillers
A British Scandal
Parenting Hell
Dan Snow’s History Hit
Betwixt The Sheets

I work a day a week completely on my own and can always find something in the above to keep me occupied while I run reports etc.

CheeseWisely · 24/09/2025 21:43

I also used to listen to Redhanded and Morbid for true crime but the presenters all got a bit too smug (and for Redhanded they covered a crime I happen to know a lot about and for the money they’re raking in their simple fact checking was absolutely shocking, it put me off completely).

GeorgeClooneyshouldhavemarriedme · 24/09/2025 21:46

I absolutely love Off Air with Jane and Fi.
Topical discussion and interviews, both light hearted and serious.

Or Now You're asking with Marian Keys and Tara Flynn where they respond to listeners problems.

RetainersinSpainnotontheplane · 24/09/2025 21:47

Redhanded - two British women in their 30’s so very relatable to me. It’s true crime mostly but if you listen on Amazon music you get Shorthand which is their shorter show about a whole host of different things.

Things People Do - ex England rugby player Joe Marler and Tom Fordayce talk to lots of people about their jobs. Ranges from supermarket managers to bomb disposal experts. Can get a little silly but very interesting.

Hunting Warhead - about tracking down and dismantling an online child sex abuse ring. It’s a great podcast but obviously heavy going at times.

Real Dictators - as the name implies. Great if you’re a bit of a history nerd like me.

So interested to know which crime that was! I am getting quite irritated with Redhanded myself, although sorry about rhe trolling Suruthi gets. (If it's not upsetting, sorry just realised that possibility, am an idiot)

CheeseWisely · 25/09/2025 07:05

@ThatsnotmynameeIt was this one. Even the most basic facts about Jersey in the opening sentences were wrong, and that’s really easy stuff to find out via google. Makes me wonder what else they just make up.

The Lord Lucan one on Sounds was great, Sweet Bobby if you never listened to it.

Elis and John?

HollyhockDays · 25/09/2025 07:14

Parenting Hell
normal gossip
what did you do yesterday
perfect day
Jane and Fi

Sunshineandrainbow · 25/09/2025 07:17

Sorry to ask but are podcasts on an app? I don't have Apple products.
I have found BBC sounds but should I look elsewhere?

Thanks

drspouse · 25/09/2025 08:02

There are several podcast apps. If you use an Android phone, I like Podbean, DH uses Acast. You can also listen on Spotify.

LolaLouise · 25/09/2025 08:17

Rosebud with Giles Brandreth. Some of the guests stories are fascinating
