To be furious that a cashier at supermarket told me off for DD eating a bite of an apple...

... which I paid for?

Apparently, it is paid for by weight, so could I not let her do it in future? No please. Nothing else.

She is 23 months old. So charge me the extra f**king half pence then tosser!!!

It came to 21p. She had taken two 23 month old sized bites. Which is why I was buying it in the first place!

Jobsworths. I've done this many times with prepacked apples but if I'm buying loose and ds or dd want to sample the goods I make sure I have another identical in the basket and got them to weigh that one twice.

treacletart is clearly from good stock

Hassled · 03/06/2008 20:41

Ironically I did steal some apples (from someone else's tree) when I was 10. Was I old enough to have had a full trial and conviction?

Flum · 03/06/2008 20:41

So were you wearing a Boden dress?

Tortington · 03/06/2008 20:43

yes ou were. 10 is the age of culpability. you were stealing. could you not wait to eat a proper meal?

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 03/06/2008 20:43

I am surprised because my only thoughts on class are from my GCSE / A Level Sociology lessons, and it was just blue collar / white collar, no working class, lower middle class, middle class, upper middle class, lower upper class etc.

I guess I have never really thought about it.

My questions were out of intrige behind somebodies reasoning behind why they believed that profession was working class.

onebatmother · 03/06/2008 20:43

lol JB
Iorek is that you? And which of your heads are you speaking from? The snazzy waxy one in which you have 'made the best of yourself' in an upwardly-mobile, cosmetically-enhanced, American alpha way - or the horrid cacky one with poor skin tone?

Quattrocento · 03/06/2008 20:46

Hassled - yes

treacle - that was my attitude too

got shouted down by the thieves though

"woss wrong wiv a little bi' of shoplifting apple then?"

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 03/06/2008 20:46

Should not buy pre-packed fruit - not good for the environment!

I used to eat blackberries from the blackberry bush on the road near my mum and dad's house - is that stealing, if nobody was going to profit from it.

onebatmother · 03/06/2008 20:46

May I point out that, broadly, until the Xenia virus was unleashed, this was not a thread about class.

This has all the makings of a tits-up thread which has been sent spirally off-course by the work of one loon.

People feel that their own class is being mocked and before you know it their starting threads about threads and saying 'you people are..' etc.

I've been here before, you know

Who is this Iorek of whom you speak.

No it is neither my preserved nor my waxen head. This one is for special occasions only. It's from Laura Ashley.

onebatmother · 03/06/2008 20:48

i like 'spirally off-course'. It has a kind of boho 'spirituality' which becomes me, I think. Not Welsh, more Cornish.

Mhamai · 03/06/2008 20:50

Just the one OBM?

onebatmother · 03/06/2008 20:50

Jeremy! a gingham spare head?

Habbibu · 03/06/2008 20:51

Ok. I have read the whole thread. And this confuses me:
As Duchesse says - he who steals an egg steals a cow.
A chicken, surely? Are they doing genetically-modified cow eggs in Waitrose now?

SupermarketCashier · 03/06/2008 20:52

Habbibu -

onebatmother · 03/06/2008 20:52

Well kind of, Mhamai. You only need one, and then people unleash their inner loon in retaliation, I htink?

Habbibu · 03/06/2008 20:52

And Quattro - a flaw in your survey, surely. The upper classes send their staff to Fortnum & Mason, and so we don't know if they would let their children steal, as it's only the working class butler gets near the shelves...

cupsoftea · 03/06/2008 20:53

lol cashier!!

Tortington · 03/06/2008 20:54

i think the next time i get tangerines - i shall peel them

i don't eat the peel

Habbibu · 03/06/2008 20:54

Germans, onebat, Germans...
