AIBU to say it isn't unexpected, or a surprise?

As a woman I’m disgusted and so disappointed with these comments. Left school at 16, pregnant and got a job as a care assistant…… do you have any idea how hard she must’ve worked??

I am gutted for women everywhere

And that's precisely why she should have resigned and why she should be bitterly ashamed. Because she knew! She knew how desperately hard life could be for those who had virtually nothing. She knew first hand what it feels like to be disadvantaged and to struggle every single day.

But the moment she got her snout in the trough she was just as greedy and corrupt as every over privileged, Eton-esque Tory that she had screamed 'Scum' at.

What I find unbelievable is that she then took part in a TV programme praising the NHS and saying that without them, her son wouldn't be here.

So give me money but you're wonderful. Very odd.

Well tbf her son survived which he wouldn't have done without the care the NHS gave him so what she said was true.....her son wouldn't be here had it not been for them.

sauvignonplonk1 · 06/09/2025 10:41

Couldn’t have said it better @Arraminta 👏🏼

Don't you think that money would be much better spent on actual vulnerable people in other countries rather than spent on putting (mostly) young men with enough spare cash to pay thousands of pounds to people smugglers up in hotels?

Maybe so. Perhaps we wouldn’t have had to if the Tories had bithered assessing anyone. Efficient assessment (now happening) coupled with safe routes would mean we didn’t need to have hotels. As it is, we have obligations under international law and basic humanity…though allowing asylum seekers to work might relive the burden a bit. It’s a tiny percentage of a tiny percentage though, even as it stands.

I saw a clip from a speech she made about not having much when she grew up but they did have a house. Yes a council house. She then went on to be allocated a nice council house on a street of red brick terraces in her 20’s with only one child (note not on one of Stockport’s large council estates or high rise flats - she was very fortunate there). She and her ex husband both bought their council houses taking this stock out of public ownership where it could have been to be allocated to other people in need when their circumstances improved. The purchase price was obviously so low that she could buy the council house on a part-time care worker’s income (with some state benefit income top-ups no doubt). That’s one hell of a state subsidy that many people could only dream of. Especially many young people today.

Exactly right. That woman’s not earned a penny that we’ve not paid for. Hell of a leg up at the tax payers expense. I’d bloody love a free house.

KhakiTiger · 06/09/2025 09:53

Has anyone heard the latest. Louise ‘phone4me’ Haigh is going to be the new deputy leader of Labour Party. The woman who got sacked from being a minister because she was found to have been taking work phones and making fraudulent insurance claims for them.

Honestly, Labour are toast. Rejoice.

Maybe do a tiny bit of research before posting obvious nonsense. Deputy Leader of the Labour Party is an elected position. The NEC will meet soon to decide the process. Anyone standing will need 80 MPs and 3 affiliated organisations to support them, then it will go to member vote. Nobody has even put their name forward yet.
You're wrong about why she was sacked too, incidentally. It was one phone, a decade ago, after a mugging in which she thought it had been taken.

Yeah we’ll see. They elect another clown. Just like three homes Rayner and multiple phones Haigh and It’s game over for Labour. And not before time.

No acceptance of spreading something untrue then?
I expect you’re a bit sad that the Tories are becoming irrelevant and want it to be true of other parties as well.

Goldenbear · 06/09/2025 11:04

Whistonia · 05/09/2025 23:42

I wouldn’t believe everything you read in the right wing press. Some houses on the road sold for less. The small semis as opposed to the larger detached ones like she had.

Yes, why are people so gullible when it comes to the media. The Daily Mail posed the question that she had maybe designated the beach down from her flat in Hove, into a socialist beach, represented by the red and yellow flags, which as everyone knows are the Lifeguard flags. They did report that it could be Lifeguard flags but why make the silly proposition at all!

The Mail also described Hove beach as, "California summer vibes. Not a bad life, eh? Hove is not California by any stretch of the imagination!

The Mail also claimed she is neighbours to Fatboy Slim, she isn't, he lives nowhere near her flat and the house value is going to be in the millions not £800000.

Yeah got it in one. Well done. All the main parties deserve to go extinct. And that’s exactly what appears to be happening.

What I fail to understand is how anyone thinks a one trick grifter is going to be better than a ‘ main party’.

Yeah she’s probably too much of a die hard cheerleader for Labour to understand how people feel about all the main parties.

Try asking. I’m a previous Labour voter and former Party member. The words ‘previous’ and ‘former’ here may give you a clue.

Well she went to court and got a conviction for Fraud by False Representation - a relatively serious offence. She failed to declare that to the ethics committee and eventually resigned when it leaked out.

Fraud is a dishonesty based offence, not really something you’d want a senior member of the Government to have.

I’m not entirely opposed to what you are saying. I think a system that essentially means one of two parties will form a government isn’t particularly helpful (or democratic). My solution would be PR so smaller and single issue parties could get some representation and people could vote positively instead of negatively (to keep the party they like least out). I may be wrong but I think you just want a different party to gain full control as now - wouldn’t that make them a ‘main party’ and likely to commit the same errors etc? Correct me if I’m wrong about your view.

Indeed. That is what she did. Not ‘taking work phones and making fraudulent insurance claims for them.‘. That’s my point. Accuracy matters.

So why sue them?

I'm uncomfortable with this as I feel her son's medical condition is their concern, but she's caused it to be brought into the public domain.

SleeplessInWherever · 06/09/2025 11:43

Secondchoice2 · 06/09/2025 00:25

Anyone who sues the NHS is a scumbag.

Absolutely not. I love our son to death, but if there was a person or organisation responsible for his disability and all of the challenges it presents, I’d absolutely sue them.

HRTQueen · 06/09/2025 11:46

The NHS need to be held accountable for mistakes made

from this changes have to be made

too many people are wrapped up in thinking we should be grateful for having the NHS we do not need to be as we should expect better

Yes, I think first past the post is the best way to get things done. Except the Tories and Labour have completely messed up since 1997, even when they had majorities.

There was no reason why Blair had to engage in war crimes or open the borders to mass uncontrolled immigration. There was no reason why Johnson had to be as atrocious on the economy and immigration as he was. And there is no reason that Two Tier can’t get shit done. They are all just corrupt, incompetent or both.

But yeah, I think that it’s not first past post that’s the problem, it’s the calibre of the people running the main parties and also the MPs behind them. They’re thick as pig shit and mostly thieves.
