To think that people who say diets don’t work aren’t really trying

I’ve lost a stone since having A baby got another stone to loose. It’s Been fucking hard I felt hungry for my usual snacks and rubbish for ages and still do but I’ve had to really get the willpower out to actually loose some weight. At first I tried to just easy a hit healthier but soon realised it wasn’t working as I wasn’t actually reducing my calories. Science states time and a time again it’s calories in vs calories out I’ve managed too lose weight slowly and sensibly by tracking everything that passes my mouth it’s hard it’s boring sometimes not fun but it’s the only way it’s worked. Otherwise I’ll think I’m being healthy and low calorie but things seriously add up that extra bit of mayonnaise extra slice of toast eyeballing butter in mash for example all adds up. Surely if people have been actively eating less calories than they need they would loose weight

there was far less easy access to calorific foods and people led different lives. But there were still people that were overweight and obese,
Yes, but far fewer overweight and obese children.

It's people like you who think fat people are food-obsessed, yet your daily life is filled with obsessing over what you eat. What a miserable existence. Add to that the supercilious judgey attitude towards people who you think "don't put the work in" like you do, and hey what a lovely happy human being you are, filled with the milk of human kindness 🙄

@ILoveWhales 50 years ago was 1975. Lifestyles and eating habits have changed.
Children are fed sugary food and drink and UPF from an early age, they wouldn't have been decades ago. The effects of UPF on children is quite scary.

In 1975 I didn't have UPF but I was given sugar sandwiches often, and apples with extra sugar sprinkled on them. And sugar on cornflakes come to think of it.

FurForksSake · 05/09/2025 13:26

@WhaleBlubberless petrified parents and children playing out more, walking to school etc because families only had one car. My parents would never had picked me up with a snack as many do now.

And yet obesity rates were nothing compared to what they are now.

In fact when I was a child 2 decades later diets werent always healthy and yet obesity rates are nothing compared to what they are now.

I just find it distasteful. It's like two opposite worlds on this forum. So many women on here are a screaming about the starvation in gaza. The other half are doing whatever they can to get their hands-on weight loss injections, because they're so overweight. It's a danger to their health and they blame everybody else but themselves.

Blaming everybody else for the state, your bodies in is just not helpful.

Can’t wait for you to be menopausal on HRT and being told this by someone… just try harder. 🤣

I take Mounjaro, eat in a calorie deficit, exercise and have lost 3 and a half stone. Yet recently, despite doing everything right, and changing nothing, I only lost 2lbs over several weeks. That amount is within daily fluctuation rate. I've had a few spells like that. It happens to people all the time. Maybe once in a while someone will just pay attention to what people who find it impossible are saying instead of talking about how awesome they personally are.

Looks like it’s hit a nerve with a few posters on her

i know a few people who “don’t eat a lot and tried every diet going “ and not lost anything
yet they’ve been on WL jabs that’s suppress your appetite and weights literally fallen off them

Because it is not their sole function to 'suppress appetite', they work with the body to repair and regulate specific functions that have broken down.

Why wasnt this a problem 50 years ago?

People didnt need weight loss injections to control themselves then. Its just excuses and more excuses.

I say this as someone who is overweight myself.

'Why wasnt this a problem 50 years ago?'

This is a good question, and on that is being studied in many disciplines. It's a growing field of study and there's so much information out there if you're interested in reading more.

But sadly for some people, they prefer simple answers to complex questions, even if they're wrong.

50 years ago people smoked which in itself is an appetite suppressant and my mother talks of diet biscuits and all sorts of things that people did to control appetites.
also there was far less easy access to calorific foods and people led different lives. But there were still people that were overweight and obese, less but still.

weight gain and the obesity crisis is so multi faceted and complex it’s very hard to point out specific reasons.

This in spadefuls. My DM was very overweight in the 70s and I remember her trying so many diets: grapefruit diet, F-plan, counting calories. She even took some sort of pills at one point. She lost weight … then would regain plus some more.
I was a plump child. In the 70s. Put on my first diet aged 8 under the supervision of a hospital dietician.
I lost weight but regained it even as a child.
In my teens I starved myself and my periods stopped but a doctor didn’t think my restricted eating was an issue as I had heavy legs (what we now know is lipoedema) so I couldn’t possibly be eating too little. And I couldn’t understand why my legs still
were so much bigger than the other girls’.
All of the above plus my crap genetics (lipoedema and body shape) have both fucked up how I view food and my metabolism. So yes, I am using WLI and for the first time in my life I have a normal relationship with food.
And yes, there were fewer overweight people in the 70s but a lot of women were on diets even then.

You are clearly just a better human being than all the lazy fat idiots who aren’t even trying 🙄

(Or maybe you don’t face the same problems that other people do?)

She obviously is by your reaction.
