That an adults only resort should mean that!

DH and I have been to Hell and back with IVF and have finally started to accept we won’t be able to have a baby. As part of that journey we decided to treat ourselves to an amazing holiday, to grieve and accept our new normal. We have been careful to plan to stay at adults only resorts and we’ve just checked into our first one, and there are kids everywhere! Apparently you need to be 18 to stay in the resort, but not to meet the minimum spend at the beach club pool bar and there are kids everywhere. Surely this defeats the point?

Yes it should mean that. We book adults only and I’d be upset to see children there. Is there an adults only bar or area on resort

CeciliaDuckiePond · 31/08/2025 09:10

Yes, it should be no under 18s on the premises.

GreenAndWhiteStripes · 31/08/2025 09:12

Is there an adults only pool?

hotelheartbreak · 31/08/2025 09:15

No - it’s a small boutique type resort with one pool / beach area with private villas, with their own plunge pools.

Sorry I don't understand this

YANBU - I would be disappointed in your situation (and would leave a review to that effect).

ThePoshUns · 31/08/2025 09:17

I’d be very unhappy about that OP. We stay in adult only hotels now that our children are grown up, we want the peace and quiet. We have just checked into our resort and not a child in sight. I’d be fuming if there were children everywhere. Have you complained?

MidnightPatrol · 31/08/2025 09:17

It isn’t an adults only hotel if children are allowed there, I agree.

BlueMum16 · 31/08/2025 09:17

Many adults only allow ages 16 upwards to stay as I've seen these come up when looking for family holidays for my DC who are 16.

Shouldn't be toddlers though.

Who did you book with? What did it say in the website? I would be complaining and looking to move in your situation.

ToKittyornottoKitty · 31/08/2025 09:19

I agree OP, it’s totally pointless if the only really adult only places are the hotel rooms.

Crispyapple · 31/08/2025 09:19

This happened to us Op - got to our adults only resort in Mexico to discover the resort let children stay if part of a wedding. Complained and was compensated with free massages and candlelit dinner. I would raise it with the general manger.

Me neither. Does it mean families can use the facilities but not stay in the hotel?

BetweenTwoFerns · 31/08/2025 09:20

It makes no sense! So children can’t sleep there but they can do everything else?

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 31/08/2025 09:20

Check the info you’ve been sent, but unless it’s made clear, complain, it was advertised as an adults only hotel but children are allowed to be day visitors then this should be made very clear the facilities are not adult only. Even if staff on the day apologise etc, you need to contact head office and say you think their advertising is misleading as it’s not an adults only hotel if the facilities are open to children.

ShesTheAlbatross · 31/08/2025 09:20

So it’s an adult only hotel, but people who aren’t staying at the hotel are allowed to use the facilities (eg pool bar), and that can include children?

Yes, I’d agree that defeats the point. If they advertise as a childfree hotel, then they must realise that people would expect that to apply to all the facilities??

CagneyNYPD1 · 31/08/2025 09:20

So is it a beach bar/ pool bar open to people staying in other hotels?

mamagogo1 · 31/08/2025 09:22

Seems it’s open to the public as day guests - definitely should have been in the description

niadainud · 31/08/2025 09:22

Maybe all the children identify as adults...

Seriously though, I'd be (very) pissed off too with that.

many hotels who’s facilities can accommodate more people than the rooms they have, let people pay for a day pass to use the facilities. (Often hotels with good gyms /spas do day passes or allow local people to pay for monthly gym membership, from what the OP has said it seems the pool allows you to pay to go for the day even if you aren’t staying at the hotel).

mamagogo1 · 31/08/2025 09:23

I would be unhappy that non residents are clogging up the facilities

DaisyChain505 · 31/08/2025 09:24

Take lots of photo and video evidence and complain to your travel agent.

Is there an adults only pool?

In my experience that doesn’t matter, if there are kids on site there was always be a couple of families who think that rule doesn’t apply to them.
That’s rubbish OP, especially in your circumstance. I think you’d be well within your rights to complain to the GM and to whoever you booked with. Is there a rep on site?

BetweenTwoFerns · 31/08/2025 09:28

Well yes, I go to the gym at a local hotel. It’s adults only all of the time, whether you sleep there or not.

Pinkandgreentrousers · 31/08/2025 09:30

I would be really annoyed too, I think adult only is often over 16 and now mine are the I'm going to book adult only and if there were loads of children there I'd be really annoyed.

Suednymph · 31/08/2025 09:33

Oh I would complain till i was hoarse. There are many reasons people go to adult only hotels and that is why they are a thing. Absolutely would be raging. I am raging on your behalf op.
