That an adults only resort should mean that!

DH and I have been to Hell and back with IVF and have finally started to accept we won’t be able to have a baby. As part of that journey we decided to treat ourselves to an amazing holiday, to grieve and accept our new normal. We have been careful to plan to stay at adults only resorts and we’ve just checked into our first one, and there are kids everywhere! Apparently you need to be 18 to stay in the resort, but not to meet the minimum spend at the beach club pool bar and there are kids everywhere. Surely this defeats the point?

Adults only should mean just that. 18+ only. I would prefer 25+ or even 30+ as even teens and young 20somethings can be annoying and loud.

MrsLizzieDarcy · 31/08/2025 13:45

Did you book via a holiday company? I'd get in touch and ask why you were mislead into booking an adult only break when it is very apparent that it's full of children.

I’d bloody love a 30+ resort!

That’d annoy me too!
Any reason you’ve gone in the school holidays though? You’ll find a lot less of the little blighters about next week!

This means nothing, many people now take their kids out of school because of the price difference so still plenty of kids around ( plus those young enough not to be in school)

Saga Holidays, just saying...😀

vinegarforeverything · 31/08/2025 14:21

That's awful and I'd say you've been sold something that it's not. I'd be furious.

It’s a unanimous YANBU, Op

Saga Holidays, just saying...😀

Alas, I'm 35 - Saga is still a while off for me.

I need someone to corner the 30-50 holiday market 😅

Rocknrollstar · 31/08/2025 14:33

Tui Blue Suite Princess on Gran Canaria is definitely adults only

Chersfrozenface · 31/08/2025 14:34

Saga is a relevant point. The lead booker has to be over 50 and any companions must be over 40.

How does that work in countries that make adult-only accommodation illegal on the grounds of age discrimination?

LhudeSingCuccu · 31/08/2025 14:35

We go to Sandals in the Caribbean every February, a massive part of that is the fact it’s adults only. I’d be beyond furious if there were kids there. I would not let this go.

ThatAgileCoralBird · 31/08/2025 14:41

Alas, Saga is for 50+ .
If you are below 50 you can go along if your travelling companion is 50 and over though: I have looked into it.

There is a huge market for no kids holidays.
I have been on hf holidays and Newmarket: no kids (bliss) and we have been the youngest (we are late 40s) the next youngest couple were about a decade older. I would recommend these holidays but they are escorted sightseeing and activity. Have done a self walking hf holiday and was excellent.

Chersfrozenface · 31/08/2025 14:44

I see Tui advertising "Adult Only" holidays prominently on their website.

Then I found this on their "Resort and Hotel Experience" page.

"Why was there a child in a property that was shown as adults only?
The minimum age for children is 16 or 18 in our adult properties, which include our TUI Blue for Two and Gold range booked through the UK. Please note that hoteliers may accept bookings from other countries and on the rare occasion may accept a child booked as an adult."

Weaselly so-and-sos.

What do we bet other travel firms do the same?

Maybe all the children identify as adults...

Seriously though, I'd be (very) pissed off too with that.

😂

Pedallleur · 31/08/2025 14:54

This was mentioned in thread recently. Adult couple staying at expensive hotel and children/grandchildren nearby in cheaper hotel coming using the pool/facilities as they are guests of the couple. Management needs to have a clear policy.

WonderfulSmith · 31/08/2025 15:03

When I look to book a hotel I usually look for adults only. However I will also look at the pictures. If there is a picture of a kids club, play area or pool with slides I’m not going.

I would be beyond furious. I went to an adults only hotel in Rhodes this year. It was made very clear when booking that under 18s were not allowed.
It was also one of a pair of hotels, one was for people who want to party and the one where we stayed had a very ‘spa’ vibe to it. It was also very child unfriendly in its design. Lots of sharp edges and water that was easy to fall into!

HonoriaBulstrode · 31/08/2025 15:06

Try an activity or special interest holiday. You could go for something active such as hiking or sedentary such as painting - or whatever else is on offer.

Blondeshavemorefun · 31/08/2025 15:06

Complain. Take pics of kids - faces blurred or backs and moan away

I’ve stayed in adult only before I’ve had dd and it was amazing. No screaming kids or being bombed etc

so totally get why you want the peace and calm

complain away. Who did you book with @hotelheartbreak

Sorry I don't understand this

No, I don’t either . Can someone enlighten please?

LBFseBrom · 31/08/2025 15:16

mamagogo1 · 31/08/2025 09:22

Seems it’s open to the public as day guests - definitely should have been in the description

I agree.

However, op, I hope you manage to have a good time anyway. It will be adults only in some areas and you can probably have dinner on your own.

Mention this to the company. They need to be more explicit about who they allow in certain areas.

Pluvia · 31/08/2025 15:46

Presumably the beach club is open to the paying public? Was this clear on their site?

I'd be complaining in the strongest possible terms and asking to be moved to a genuine adults-only hotel/ resort. I'd also take videos and post on Trip Advisor.

PurpleFlower1983 · 31/08/2025 15:54

CagneyNYPD1 · 31/08/2025 09:20

So is it a beach bar/ pool bar open to people staying in other hotels?

This is quite common in Greece where they have bars on the beach or pool bars. They let others use them with a minimum spend.

ttcat37 · 31/08/2025 16:12

Did you book with a tour operator? We have complained about a hotel whilst away before and demanded to be moved, and we were moved to the hotel of our choice. I think you’d have great grounds to move in the circumstances.

My 16 yo son and me stayed at an adult only resort this summer. I booked it over the phone, saying we wanted somewhere quiet. Only when I was checking the details after booking did I see it was adult only. I called to check that it was OK for my son to go, and she told me that they do sometimes accept 16 year olds. They use their judgement. Clearly my son wasn't on a teenage boys post GCSE bender! There were definitely plenty of adults more noisy, disruptive than him. I am very glad they showed some flexibility - we really wanted quiet and relaxing.

Ask whoever is in charge what is going on, then don't go back.
