To be starting to worry that Reform will win next GE?

TortoiseMantle · 29/08/2025 16:10

The polls have shown a consistent lead. Is there any realistic chance of Reform actually winning the next election?

I vote Labour, but it’s hard to see how they’ve managed to throw away such a lead in just a year, and it’s hard to see how their polling improves. The Tories maybe have more opportunity for improving, but we’re going to see a Reform government, aren’t we? Nigel Farage is going to be our next PM.

I can't see that one getting the thumbs up @BurntBroccoli. The UK left the EU because we were, as the second largest economy in the EU, paying to develop the eastern new accession countries, having already funded Spain and Portugal's infrastructures to be better than the existing Victorian set up we can't afford to modernise. At some stage, there needs to be a bit more circularity, and there wasn't anything modernising the UK. Germany is not particularly happy with funding everything either.

Papyrophile · 04/09/2025 21:21

But the Germans do sell lots of white goods.

Papyrophile · 04/09/2025 21:27

And France is likely to have to get the IMF in before the UK. I do know that no one wants to say this publicly and out loud, but public social support is too costly. Your UC top ups have to go!

Papyrophile · 04/09/2025 21:30

Your employer should pay you the full going rate for your work.

I asked ChatGPT this very question!

Reform UK – Main Policies (2025)

  1. Immigration
  • Stronger borders, strict limits on immigration.
  • End mass, low-skill immigration.
  • Deport illegal migrants quickly.
  • Use offshore processing for asylum seekers.
  1. Economy & Tax
  • Cut income tax and fuel duty.
  • Raise the income tax threshold to take more people out of paying tax.
  • Abolish inheritance tax for most people.
  • Support for small businesses and self-employed workers.
  1. NHS & Healthcare
  • Reform NHS management to reduce bureaucracy.
  • Increase frontline staff.
  • Use private sector where needed to reduce waiting lists.
  1. Law & Order
  • Increase police numbers and visibility.
  • Harsher sentences for violent and repeat offenders.
  • Crack down on grooming gangs and knife crime.
  1. Education
  • Promote vocational training and apprenticeships.
  • Ban gender ideology and political bias in schools.
  • Focus on core subjects and traditional teaching.
  1. Energy & Environment
  • Scrap net zero targets.
  • Promote nuclear, gas, and other domestic energy sources.
  • Lower energy prices by increasing supply and cutting green levies.
  1. Brexit & Sovereignty
  • Fully complete Brexit – reduce EU influence on UK law.
  • Reform UK trade, borders, and laws for greater independence.
  • Leave the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR).
  1. Government Reform
  • Cut size of government and civil service.
  • Reduce House of Lords size.
  • Introduce proportional representation for fairer elections

Now ask it how they propose to carry out these policies!

GingerPower · 04/09/2025 21:52

I think for many voters it's a start just to have these issues actually acknowledged.

Shellyash · 04/09/2025 22:37

HRTQueen · 04/09/2025 19:47

your bubble doesn’t represent the general voting public though and it’s dangerous to think it does

there is a reason Reform are gaining popularity at a concerning rate and sadly the other parties do need to tap into this on some level

Thanks, exactly my point. It's not my opinion it's real, and to avoid a far right-wing party getting in, the main parties need to take note

I agree. Burying your head in the sand, sticking your fingers in your ears and pretending everyone with concerns is just a ' bigot ' or a ' fascist ' will help no one, other than reform.

Excatly

and it’s absolutely helped them so far it’s down to the main parties to change this

You're actually alienating a lot of people who are just pissed off. Our council today admitted they needed to raise council tax another 12% next April. That's 40% in four years. That's going to upset a lot of people.

RedToothBrush · 04/09/2025 23:14

Reform will win.

They have only one policy people know.

But the government have managed to get everything so wrong and this feeling of corruption in politics being more focused on self interest than anything else is leading the population of just going 'fuck it', it's can't be any worse than this.

Exactly, wasn't it starmer who proclaimed on his victory that he was all about " country over party"? Well he's proved that to be a lie. This country has never felt so hopeless, disenfranchised and divided and all faith has taken a flying leap out of the window. Blair swept in on the optimism of ' things can only get better', with starmer the overriding impression is that things can only get worse, much worse. What a legacy.

Mumofnarnia · 05/09/2025 05:09

Yes he got lynched and called a paedo. But the same kind of thing he happens when all the antifas and stand up to racism bleating “nazi scum off our streets” at concerned locals and basically stirring up trouble. Again, works both ways. I don’t agree with what happened on this video but I also don’t agree with genuinely concerned locals being called ‘racist’ and ‘nazi scum’ for the crime of wanting to keep their children safe! No point saying one side is vile while acting the victim on the behalf of the other side when they’re also calling people ‘racist’ and ‘nazi scum’ etc.

Theolittle · 05/09/2025 06:50

Absolutely vile people

SatsumaDog · 05/09/2025 07:24

if people feel backed into a corner and that there’s no alternative, yes they will vote Reform. Labour needs to show they have control of undocumented immigration and that they are listening to people’s concerns. Right now they are not doing that.

Shouting people down and calling them racist has done nothing to improve the situation. In fact, it’s made things worse. If we genuinely want to avoid Reform getting into power we need to learn from what’s happening, look for the root cause (hint, it’s not racism) and address it.

RedToothBrush · 05/09/2025 08:09

Btw, the sentiment that 'it can't get worse than this' is one that will be spectacularly disproven in real time.

Upstartled · 05/09/2025 08:25

Will? Isn't it currently? Half of Labour voters in the last g.e who fell for the sentiment that 'things can only get better' have buyers remorse. Yougov polling now shows that only 7% of the population are hopeful enough to think that things will get 'somewhat' better in the next 12 months. The other 93% aren't hopeful at all.

If there was one truth that we have become familiar with is that it can always get worse.

Yet growth up, consumer spending up, wage rises above inflation, interest rate cuts..........

Which didn't happen under the Tories, we had low wages, falling growth, 12% inflation, increased rates....

Much of the issues Labour have is on immigration.

I’m not entirely sure why you’d call that group of bullies anything except scum. And I can’t believe you’re defending them. Did you even watch the video? Here’s a clue - there was no lynching but only because the police stepped in. I despair if that behaviour is acceptable in your world.

But these people are scum. What else would they be?

The problem with the "They want to keep their children safe" line is that it's nonsense. That is not why they are anti-immigration. If they wanted to keep their children safe, they would acknowledge that there are a hell of a lot more white and non-immigrant paedophiles and rapists around, but somehow they never do.

Even Labour voters don't trust Labour on the economy

The steep decline in Labour's poll ratings is second only to Black Wednesday.
