To be starting to worry that Reform will win next GE?

TortoiseMantle · 29/08/2025 16:10

The polls have shown a consistent lead. Is there any realistic chance of Reform actually winning the next election?

I vote Labour, but it’s hard to see how they’ve managed to throw away such a lead in just a year, and it’s hard to see how their polling improves. The Tories maybe have more opportunity for improving, but we’re going to see a Reform government, aren’t we? Nigel Farage is going to be our next PM.

Yes I noticed that on the Facebook page, Starmer does indeed call them illegal.

Exactly! He has referred to them as being illegal on numerous of his Facebook posts Yet people on here (who have no say in the law and have nothing to do with running the country) claim to decide what’s classed as ‘legal’ and ‘illegal’ and spout it as fact!

It will be interesting to see how Reform will do in the councils they were voted in. I suspect they will demonstrate a total lack of understanding of how to run even a local level government.

I honestly hope this country has more sense then voting this shit show in. They are useless fucking idiots, not even proper politicians. Funny when you realise that Tories were shit but at least they were not some fucking useless racist twats off the street...

The Tories were quite a way off being 'shit'.

wuminty · 29/08/2025 20:37

Can you imagine the negative campaigning of parties opposed to Reform. The important issues will be lost in the frenzy over asylum seekers etc. And play right into Reform's hands.

So by the time 4 years is up, I am hoping that any party other than R will have lots of positive things to show us what they can/have achieved, and prove that their way is the correct and fairest way for all of us. Hmmm.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 29/08/2025 18:52

Will it be worth losing the NHS, the state pension and sick pay, @Tangerinenets?

That’s my point though. Most people aren’t bothered about those things because the focus is very much on immigration.

Port1aCastis · 29/08/2025 20:42

I will not be voting for Reform as other than stop the boats which other policies do they have? I read that they want to take the UK out of the ECHR, well I don't like that idea at all, why would they throw away our rights and freedoms?

Icanthinkformyselfthanks · 29/08/2025 20:45

Slightyamusedandsilly · 29/08/2025 16:12

They're not going to win. All the bumf about Farage is just fluff. None of his policies are workable. Although to be fair, a Reform voter isn't able to offer a sensible analysis of the unworkable policies so...

@Slightyamusedandsilly , do please enjoy your arrogant sniping while you can. The smile will be wiped from your face soon enough.

I bet even Farage didn’t think Leave would win.

Kago2790 · 29/08/2025 20:54

Farage is the bookmakers favourite for next PM. They're right more than not.

Well, compared to Farage they were not that bad - though Boris and Liz were close second.

Rosscameasdoody · 29/08/2025 20:55

Mumofnarnia · 29/08/2025 19:26

Yes I remember now, I stand corrected. Still, even they didn’t decline in popularity as fast as this current government. And they were pretty unpopular by the end of their 3rd term

The last election in which they were in power was 2010 - there was no clear winner and Gordon Brown resigned after failing to form a government. That’s how we ended up with the shitshow that was the coalition.

Ah so same as Labour heavyweights Jack Straw + David Blunkett etc who now want to "de couple from ECHR"??
Where Reform go, Labour follow

That's not true re PIP and higher earners.

if you earn £50k then you should be able to afford the lifestyle that people earning £50k afford.

If £10k of that is being used for car adaptions, wheelchair, aids, etc before you add house adaptions, specialist clothing etc (remember anything marketed for disability is automatically marked up). You need a bigger specialist type car for your wheelchair, aids etc. therefore higher insurance and fuel costs.
Then many with disabilities WFH so need specialist desks and mouses etc.

Then actually why should someone who earns more have a lower quality of life due to the cost of disability - that’s just luck of the draw.

Edited

This. And this is the reason that disability benefits are universal. It’s really noticeable that on threads like these it’s always sickness and disability benefits that are proposed for the chop. Never child benefit or the vast amounts paid for children via UC.

sundayfundayclub · 29/08/2025 18:24

@Rosscameasdoody I'm intrigued as to what cuts you don't think families have experienced and what ones they should be subject to?

Sorry - not with you.

sundayfundayclub · 29/08/2025 21:04

Never child benefit or the vast amounts paid for children via UC.

Child benefit is means tested though as is universal credit which is capped at 2 dc. Why do you want to push children into poverty @Rosscameasdoody?

Jesus reform have no actual clue how to run a country. It would be a full on disaster.

Like the disaster it is now you mean 🤦‍♀️

Reform will never win a general election. They're not a proper political party, and Farage has no interest in running a constituency, let alone a country.

They tell the dim and disenfranchised what they want to hear and make them promises they'll never have to keep.

They'll never beat FPTP, half the people cheerleading for them won't actually vote because they think the whole thing's rigged and the world is run by the WEF or whoever this week's boogyman is and they'll collapse and come back as something else for the next one.

I genuinely pity the people who fall for it.

They have beat FPTP in multiple councils and there is no reason why that can’t happen at a General.

Serpentstooth · 29/08/2025 21:05

Well,, they'd have to find some candidates first. Given the rabble they've scraped up to inflict on various councils around the country, people are bound to be impressed although a rush of dispossessed Tories might sign up. Enjoy what you're askn for Reform voters. You won, get over it, remember? Maybe you'll experience some more of that.

sundayfundayclub · 29/08/2025 21:06

If the proposed cuts centred around cutting benefits for parents this would be a very different conversation and everyone here knows it.

@Rosscameasdoody you said the above. Parents have faced cuts, what other cuts do you think they should face?

Rosscameasdoody · 29/08/2025 21:06

mintydoggyv · 29/08/2025 19:06

Money come from pensioners as they pay more tax than those working , so basically we are paying more in than taking out

This is utter nonsense.

MidnightMusing5 · 29/08/2025 21:09

Reform will definitely win behcsse they will line the billionaires pockets- hence why the media keeps pushing divisive stories in the media. Really imbed that hate. It’s working.

anyone with half a brain think who do the media keep pushing negative stories about? And that is who you should vote for- because they don’t benefit the super wealthy. I will be voting Corbyn myself.

it’s like Hitler (or one of his henchmen) said “tell a lie often enough, it will become the people’s truth”.

and here we are.

PiggyPigalle · 29/08/2025 21:11

Richard Tice was just on, bemoaning the Court allowing the Epping hotel to remain open.
What would he suggest, that the 138 were housed in HMOs? That would be maybe 15 + houses. So instead of one hotel and their whereabouts known, 15 other streets would have the dubious pleasure of their company and a reduction in their house value.
Build holding centres or whatever they're called, but HMOs are the worst solution.

I don’t. My point is that there would be a very different conversation if the focus of the cuts was on child benefit and other child related benefits instead of the sick and disabled. There are many people on MN who comment on disability benefits without knowing the first thing about what they are paid for and how they work in keeping disabled people independent.

There was a thread on MN a couple of days ago - may still be online. The thrust of the thread was the impact on work colleagues if more disabled people were taken on as a result of the forthcoming efforts to get them off benefit and into work. The general consensus was that reasonable adjustment wasn’t fair on colleagues, and that if disabled people couldn’t compete on their own terms they shouldn’t work. You absolutely cannot win here.
