Guests and disturbing them

Just a curious one. If you have guests using the sofa bed what time do you get up yourself??
I need to go downstairs and sort out the cat box 🤢 and get on with my day but worried about disturbing them 😞😍

I had cats for years and never noticed any odour except for when they broke wind. Their fur was always immaculately groomed and shiny.

except normal people tend to give their bedroom to their guests when they don't have a guest room.

If you have a living room that a separate room and a sofa bed, you can chose to keep your bedroom because you can still go anywhere in the house.

Having guests in the living room meaning you are stuck in your own bedroom? very weird

And anything before 9am is unbelievably rude -unless specific activities already planned. People make an effort to wake up before that, but the host doesn't make noise until at least 9am.

Do you not work? Imagine not starting your day until 9am 🙄

So glad everyone I know is up by 6am in the week and 7am at the weekend because we all have lives to lead and taxes to pay

7am at the weekend! What joy to be had in your house 🤣 sounds like being in barracks.

HerecomesMargo · 29/08/2025 12:54

Why are you wringing hands over your own son?? Surely you would have told him that he needs to be up by a certain time? It’s your son.

Bowies · 29/08/2025 12:59

At the weekend I would leave them to sleep without disturbing them (unless I had to) until 9am

Nobody needs waking up it's totally chill. Everyone is happy.

We're all awake when there are things to be done so in bed by 10, not sitting on our phones until 2am.

If I was retired maybe I'd shift my mindset and stay in bed a bit longer but as it stands I make the most of the weekends

Friendlygingercat · 29/08/2025 13:07

I dont have cats and dont encourage overnight guests. If I did allow someone to stay it would be a concession. I would make it clear that they had to fit in with my comings and goings. My house - my rules. Same if I was sleeping on someone elses' couch. I would expect to fit in with their rules.

Every single person you know?! Wow!

Goodness knows how I lead my life or pay my taxes when I don't wake up until 6.40 in the week and sometimes 9 at weekends! Will the tax office be knocking at my door to complain?!

His girlfriend is in bed with him, though. For a number of reasons, I would say that it's definitely best to err on the side of caution before going into the room they're sleeping in.

My point is, her son is not a guest .. he’s her son. I would definitely expect my son not to be having sex on a sofa bed, presumably in the living room where any family member can walk through. Common courtesy and decency.

You know people have days off, right? 😂 some also work night shifts.
Even on a work day I don’t need to be up by 7. On a weekend it will be at least 8am before I’m up unless I need to do something specific.

I’m so glad everyone I know isn’t as judgy and narrow minded as you are and allows other people to live life the way they feel most comfortable.

To insinuate anyone who doesn’t get up by 6 or 7am doesn’t have a life and doesn’t pay taxes is beyond insulting and completely unreasonable.

People are allowed to utilise and enjoy their 24 hours however they wish. There’s nothing impressive about being in bed early and getting up early. That’s just the way you choose to use your time. It’s not superior.

If I was on someone's sofa bed, I'd be awake by 7am anyway.

I don't tend to invite work colleagues to sleep over at my house, so if I have guests in the house either I would leave quietly to the office, or go quietly in my study and let them sleep until at least 9 am if they want to 😂

And if I am not on a call when I hear them move, I go downstairs and say hello.

Like a normal human being.

why do you need to get up at 6am to pay your tax? Which country do you live in? 😂😂

Normal is a wide range, my normal might not be your normal, but neither of us are wrong, just different - the point is that it's probably best to at least discuss these things beforehand.

Paying tax has absolutely no relevance whatsoever with getting up at 6am in the morning, and 7am at the weekend like that poster claimed, so I stand by my sarcastic reply.

Well, getting up early may be work related, and most folk pay tax so.....🤣

Sorry, but... why you think someone has to be up by 6am to work and pay taxes? And why does getting up at 7am mean you have more of a life to lead than anyone else?

I work from home most days. I don't have any kids. My working hours are flexible, so I can start any time up until 10am. Even if I start work at 9am, the earliest I have to be up is 8.30am to have a shower, get dressed, make a cup of tea and crack on. I still manage to do my full time job and pay the same tax as everyone else on my salary does.

At weekends I'm rarely up and about before before 9am, and usually it's later than that. I'm not a morning person. That doesn't mean I don't have a life to lead. It simply means I lead my life to a different schedule to yours. I'm a night owl. Midnight is the earliest I go to bed and often it's later than that.

Absolutely fine if you like to get up early and I have no opinion on whether it's OK to impose the same schedule on your guests; it's not a situation that's ever arisen for me because none of the friends I ever stay with are early risers at weekends. But it's really odd to assume that getting up at 6-7am is somehow morally superior or says anything about your ability to work and pay tax. Surely must grasp that everyone's jobs and lives are different?
