Cycling Mikey doesn't deserve the hate he's getting

He's not putting fumes in people's lungs from his car and sees people doing illegal activities that kill others or make our premiums go up.

But that is not really relevant. Yes many accidents are caused by people on phones. Cycling Mikey is also a horrible little man. One has no bearing on the other. He isn’t actively stopping accidents or reducing people breaking the law and he has no authority to do so. He is making money off TikTok and YouTube whilst being deliberately provocative and antagonising as that’s what gets views, all whilst pretending he’s doing it for a good cause.

There was a recent thread on here where OP was caught by a Cycling Mikey type. She was caught using her phone whilst in control of her car. Tried to argue that she was vulnerable and unsafe as he was a man and she had a baby in the car.
I believe some police authority areas actually encourage people to send in footage of people using phones whilst driving. Operation Snap.

He is being a twat though for confronting people. Just film them and send in the evidence.

Seems like a good cause to me. But then I don’t use my phone at the wheel.

A variety of criminal and dangerous things that they shouldn’t be doing. I wish more people called out dangerous behaviour but malt people would rather keep their heads down and ignore it

Perhaps lobbying the DVLA to make refresher courses in appropriate road use a licence condition.

People would at least have some respect for such a measure.

He's quite clever really, his content is complete rage bait for cyclists and non cyclists. People love this type of content, I imagine he makes a tidy sum from his channel! I don't think he minds the hate.

Police officers are doing a job and are accountable

Having no authority doesn’t mean he can’t stop criminal behaviour. This isn’t people being a bit unpleasant, it’s people happy to run the risk of killing people

Policemen seem to be like hens teeth anyway. You’d think k they’d be at Regents Park more often given the amount of collisions. Probably too busy arresting people for misgendering someone or slagging a school off on Whatsapp

You have too much faith in selfish dangerous drivers if you think a refresher course will change their attitude.

I don't know who he is so I'll reserve judgement on your overall question about him but it's a false equivalence to suggest that an untrained, unqualified person relentlessly pursuing someone is that same as trained, qualified professionals pursuing someone to the extent that their training suggests it is safe to do so.

Police regularly stop pursuits because they are dangerous. Police have several units to come from different directions. Police are trained and qualified. There's a difference.

Maybe watch a few videos from the early days.

I think he is great. I wish there were more cycling Mikey’s around. He isn’t rude or aggressive unless people are rude and aggressive to him. It’s amazing how many people use their phone while driving. I see it all the time.

He stands at a corner in Regents Park, near a spot where it’s really common that drivers drive down the wrong side of the road in order to skip the traffic and make a right turn. There’s been a number of collisions because cars do this., and there’s every chance that a car is coming round the corner, or that a child or pedestrian cross without looking the other way. Mikey steps into the road and tells them to reverse back. Sometimes they do, sometimes they get out and start shrieking for 10 minutes and suddenly lose the ability to reverse. He went viral a while ago because the people on the car claimed they were doctors and therefore it was fine to drive the wrong way down a road. It is entertaining. Then again I have a slight addiction to dashcam videos so it appeals to the likes of me.
