To be fair, photos when uploaded to MN are downgraded quite a bit in terms of resolution so it’s not a good place to judge a pictures focus.

ToBethornottoBeththatistheUpton · 28/08/2025 21:43

If you want to learn I recommend Live Snap Love tutorials on Pinterest, A Year With my Camera course by Emma Davies, which is an app and teaches in bitesize chunks and She Clicks on fb which is a group for female photographers of all skill levels and great for inspiration and support ( but notif you reply with this attitude you’ve shown).

All free or very cheap ( the app) and all teaching in easy steps. If you enjoy it learn about it and see how you feel in a few months.

Also I have a fujifilm and a Nikon and the Fuji is great but a lot harder to master. Look up tutorials on that too.

I didn’t say I wanted that.

To be honest I wasn’t expecting over a hundred comments saying they’re awful! I thought they were okay - not breathtaking, but not “shot on a potato” (the camera cost me nearly £1,000!), not “lacking everything”

There is something wrong with this camera. A £1000 camera wouldn't take photos like this. The settings are all wrong, or it's faulty. I really thought they'd been taken on quite an old, cheap phone.

YumYa · 28/08/2025 21:48

@WannabePhotographer don't give up. Join a photography club and watch some YouTube videos.

You're not crap.
Whereas I used to be poor at art at school. Joined an art class as an adult where everyone was fantastic. Imagine my embarrassment 😳 Anyway perservered and have ended up decent. People have my art on their walls. ( not me though 🤣) If you stick at something you do improve. Sometimes it just suddenly clicks.

Odonje · 28/08/2025 21:48

Are you being serious? You fancy the idea of being a photographer so take a few photos and post them onto a forum for opinions - you get a mixture of responses, not all of them positive so you immediately decide you’re giving it up and selling the camera?

seriously, grow up. Things take practice and a bit of work. I always wanted to be an artist and the first few things I painted were shit. I kept at it and now I do commissions and make a living off it. Imagine if I’d just given up after the first few shit paintings 🙄

Google what Fujifilm are and what they do

OP you’re being very defeatist and I want to tell you to stop it!!
The key to being good at anything in the world is practice. That’s it! It really is that simple.

I had absolutely zero photography experience and in my mid 30’s decided I wanted to take nicer photos. I was absolutely all the gear no idea 🤣 I booked on to a local photography course and it was absolutely amazing - a full day, small group. Mixed abilities but the guy leading the course was great with everyone. I felt much more confident with my Canon after that and a year later I did the course again as ‘a bit better than a beginner’ to hone my skills.

If you enjoy it don’t just throw in the towel; use criticism to fuel your fire, find a local course and get booked in! If I can walk in to a photography class with a massive camera saying ‘so I bought this having only ever taken photos on an iPhone’ without being laughed out the room, you’ll be fine!

Hfstjsufysyfykdhoxg · 28/08/2025 21:50

I'm being brutally honest, OP, but if these photos were taken on a £1,000 camera, then you really do need to practise. They badly composed and executed. They look like quick snaps that child would take.

If you enjoy it, set your mind to it and learn properly, with plenty of practise.

Sunshineandoranges · 28/08/2025 21:51

The houses one looks like Brighton? How can you be crap?

I never said the camera was broken, I said it's clearly faulty, if it cost £1000 and it's producing the pics you have shown us. OR the settings are wrong.

I have never seen photos from a £1000 camera that look like your photos.

They look like they have been edited to me, a filter to give a vintage feel

The thing about art is it's so subjective, not everybody is going to like everything you do. Don't sell your camera if it's something you enjoy, who cares what anyone else thinks? And if you do care, or want to persue it as more than a hobby, why don't you look for a fun class you can attend? We're allowed to do things just because we enjoy them, not just to try and make everyone else happy

WannabePhotographer · 28/08/2025 21:52

I really can't help you if I 'need to explain' why a £1000 should not be taking photos like the ones you have posted here.

Sadly, your comments are showing that you know very little about cameras and photography, and as many posters have said, if you want to pursue it, you need to train/learn/go on a course. You are being very snitty. Why post here asking for opinions, and then kick off when someone says something you don't like?!

I will leave you to it. You are clearly very easily hurt and upset. I do wonder why you posted here. Confused You clearly wanted everyone to say they are amazing and you should be a professional photographer. I can't say that, and I won't. And many others feel the same. You have to accept that.

So you can’t, you just wanted to be rude and pick on someone. Have a good evening

Because people saying things to be nice are just doing it to be kind

No, I was one of the first people to comment. It wasn't to be kind. I was just saying what I thought.

Ah right, I have no idea about different types of cameras - I bought an expensive one once but couldn’t work out how to use it. I just use my phone now, works just as well

Bournetilly · 28/08/2025 21:55

They aren’t awful they just look like nice holiday photos.

I don’t like the out of focus effect though.

Fujifilm does not mean that images are:
Out of focus
Terribly composed
Uninteresting

Just go and join a group and practise

Cookingupmyfirstbornson · 28/08/2025 21:57

Jesus OP what is with your attitude??
