I'd like to nominate this thread for Classics please.

Lonelycrab · 28/08/2025 21:57

Looking closer at the original pictures you’ve posted op, despite MN resolution, they don’t have any where near the clarity, sharpness or depth of colour a Fuji Xt will produce.

If it’s set to auto, as you said, it’ll do a damn good job at all of those.

Jewelanemone · 28/08/2025 21:57

Why did you choose those particular subjects, OP?

WannabePhotographer · 28/08/2025 21:57

Hfstjsufysyfykdhoxg · 28/08/2025 21:56

Fujifilm does not mean that images are:
Out of focus
Terribly composed
Uninteresting

Just go and join a group and practise

I was replying to a commenter who said they were edited to have a vintage feel.

Please do share your world shattering photography so we can see what gives you the right to be so horrid.

I liked how they looked, I liked how the film recipes captured the feeling of the afternoon - it was hot and sunny and I was walking around the town I grew up in, it felt very nostalgic and that’s what the photos said to me

Well I can assure you it’s a Fujifilm xt30ii purchased from Argos.

I don’t mean to be unkind, but I’ll be honest and say they’re oddly composed and extremely boring. They’re just not interesting. The one with the houses is nice enough but it’s nothing you’d pay much attention to. If I was interested in photography I’d at least try to find more eye-catching subject matter. They’re not terrible - they’re not good either.

What a weird thread

Apparently we should all be acknowledging the next Mapplethorpe/Bailey/Newton.

BustyLaRoux · 28/08/2025 21:59

I thought the vintage holiday snap effect was on purpose. They have a Martin Parr feel to them. OP do you know who I mean?

Hfstjsufysyfykdhoxg · 28/08/2025 21:59

This reminds me of someone I knew who joined a creative writing group. She was truly shit at it, but flipped between flouncing entirely and becoming very angry with anyone who criticised her work (which was one of the points of the group).

OP, I'm starting to think that you should just eBay the camera and give us all a break.

That’s not what I said and never once did I say I think I’m the next David Bailey.

but having now over 200 people say they’re shit is pretty unkind, especially when I didn’t think they were awful!

On what planet have 200 plus people said they're shit?? Are you hard of reading?

I really can't help you if I 'need to explain' why a £1000 should not be taking photos like the ones you have posted here.

Sadly, your comments are showing that you know very little about cameras and photography, and as many posters have said, if you want to pursue it, you need to train/learn/go on a course. You are being very snitty. Why post here asking for opinions, and then kick off when someone says something you don't like?!

I will leave you to it. You are clearly very easily hurt and upset. I do wonder why you posted here. Confused You clearly wanted everyone to say they are amazing and you should be a professional photographer. I can't say that, and I won't. And many others feel the same. You have to accept that.

.

I meant a £1000 CAMERA! Left it too late to edit!

Odonje · 28/08/2025 22:02

i have just looked up fujifilm photos - looks like you need to practice with the settings

This one was taken on an iPhone - it’s not earth shattering photography but it’s in focus etc

CunningPlanMaster · 28/08/2025 22:02

OP I have that camera. Fuji (in my experience) is much more involved to use than Canon.

Have you cropped the photos at all? Wondering if that might explain why they look a little pixelated.

But it is entirely possible to have the settings on auto with that camera and still take terrible photos (not saying yours are) as I’ve taken some shockers with it!

Pdam · 28/08/2025 22:03

I don't really want to critique your photos, photography is like any skill you need to learn how to do it properly and it takes time. Don't sell your camera, take your time and hone your skills, learning is part of the fun! I've done a photography course, there's far more to it than point and shoot! It can take many years to get to the standard of a professional. My brother has been an amateur photographer for around 20 years, he takes some stunning shots he could sell but it's a hobby for him, he has a real eye for what is a great photo and will give a detailed critique whether you asked for it or not, he shouts about thirds and noise a lot 😆! Don't give up though if that's what you want to do, work at it.

They aren't awful, but they aren't stand-out. What do you love? Is it nature? Maybe beautiful scenery? Urban landscapes? Architecture? Think of something that you love looking at, and take photos of it. Your love for your subject will shine through.

What are you actually looking for then?

I think they’re boring and badly composed. Shit, as you’d put it. That’s just my view. So what?

So you can’t, you just wanted to be rude and pick on someone. Have a good evening

You literally asked people what they thought. You asked for opinions.

Perhaps you should have said please tell me my pictures are great whether you actually think they are or not.

ChaChaChaChanges · 28/08/2025 22:08

But that’s the point!

The suggestion is to go to classes. But you won’t.

Then OP why aren’t you responding to some of the very good advice posted here about photography courses, types of camera/kit, FB groups etc? Why are you wasting so much energy responding to posts that clearly anger you?
