Just a chat to understand what’s going on with the influx of England and UJ flags all over the streets?

thoughts?
where did it stem from?
is it making you uncomfortable? (It is, me, but not entirely sure why)

A ‘hateful lefty’. How convenient.

Not that unusual though.

Honestly, I'm finding it incredibly hypocritical how many people are saying that flying the England flag feels sinister to them as it has been hijacked by far-right racists - then go out every week with Palestinian flags and deny that they understand why that make a lot of people feel very uncomfortable. Despite that flag having been hijacked by far-left antisemites and terrorists. Same goes for the keffiyeh - an innocent piece of material or are people wearing it because they are terrorist-sympathisers? After all, plenty of terrorists wear them and have done so while committing terrorist acts.

How are you meant to tell the sinister intent from the action? You can't. So either flying flags is fine and you ignore that people with sinister intent also fly them - or you accept that flying flags makes people feel very uncomfortable and unwelcome in this country because we don't know which flags are up with sinister intent and which ones aren't.

Either way, if people could please decide if flags are offensive or not and then apply that rule to all flags, that would be great. Thanks!

Exactly this. It's now 'wrong' to fly the England flag, but OK to fly the Palestine one? The former is intimidating but the latter is not? 🤔

Hmmmm, selective outrage I think that's called.

You weren’t “speaking facts”. Your post was abusive and misogynistic. All it achieved was to play up to the nasty lefty stereotype, making it so much easier for right wing commentators to dismiss us all.

I thought it was the 'racist flag shaggers' who were violent not you?

Whomp whomp. Maybe think in future about your own abusive and xenophobic comments. No one likes a cry baby.

Violence doesn’t discriminate unlike racists.

MollyButton · 30/08/2025 15:51

It’s fine if done properly, ideally a flag pole but lampposts and from motorway bridges is designs to intimidate.

You sound unhinged now. What abusive and xenophobic comments? 🫤

I'm glad to see England flags flying, I'm from Scotland and live down south, I've never understood why people flying England flags from their homes and cars were told to take them down when the Euros and other sporting events were taking place. its nice to see people are proud of their country, Wales and Scotland flags don't upset anyone,

But God forbid we trigger the undocumented rapists, murders and racists who are here by displaying outlets countries flag. Can't make them feel uncomfortable can we. Do you know what makes me feel uncomfortable? Not feeling safe in my own town due to these people. The young men who come here and harras women and children, sexually assaulting them, abusing them in public for dressing in a way that they don't like, the men that spit at the elderly outside our local church for daring to practice a religion they don't agree with. The young men that are openly carrying large blades weapons in our streets. I could go on. If being concerned about all of this and more and having a genuine fear for the safety of women and young girls makes me a racist then print me a t-shirt because that's what I am.

HangryLikeTheHulk · 30/08/2025 15:53

Beryls · 30/08/2025 15:25

The whole thing started because someone put up some flags, I think it was in Birmingham but might be mistaken, and the council took them down.

People in genral don't like being told what they can and can't do, so some people suggested if loads are put up there will be too many for them to take down. That was it, that was the reason. If the original council had not taken them down I doubt it would have spread to elsewhere. Now the more people moan about it the more flags will go up.

It started in York.

I live there, and there were some already up on lamp posts near York Sport way back in late June, I had no idea what it was, guess they were testing the waters and getting some footage to kickstart the campaign. This is orchestrated and deliberate, as I said before, those participating are either far-right activists, or gullible useful idiots.

Where do you live?

I’ve never heard of most of that, anywhere.

People were only told to take them down at Euros time if they were traffic hazards!

Clearly you live in a nice middle class village that hasn't been shafted by your labour council and used as a dumping ground for thousands of these people. Just because it isn't happening in your town doesn't mean it isn't across multiple towns and cities across the country.

I live Barnsley. I grew up in the 90’s and early 00’s in Rotherham. Yeah, that Rotherham. Shall I tell you how that went in great detail or would you rather live in your middle class bubble, with your middle class beliefs and your champagne socialist parties, pretending that all that didn’t happen or that it isn’t still happening? It’s a shame that a fucking St George’s flag wasn’t the only thing I had to feel ‘uncomfortable’ about growing up. But you flap about a flag like the good little virtue signaller the government wants you to be.

Love.

I grew up in Billingham. A tiny town, basically next door to Middlesbrough, where I lived for almost 8 years.

There’s a school in Middlesbrough that has such high EAL that it’s affectionately known as “Abadingdong” Primary. There are at least 2 whole areas in that one town that are almost fully Asian populated. To the point that a friend who lives in one of them had her windows put through last year, because it was assumed she was one of “them.”

I taught in Stockton. There were 20 kids in my class. 2 of them White British. We took PD days for Eid because there was little point opening the school. We were teaching kids phonics, who couldn’t even speak English yet. Teaching the English for “cow” before we could teach them “c-ow.” Non English speaking parents would come to parents evening with interpreters - often their older children.

Don't assume my background, please. I’ve seen racism face to face, and met racists, they walk my streets every day.

Middle class bubble 😂

As above. I grew up on a council estate in North East England. Zero silver spoons in this mouth.
