DH and I cannot agree on a name for our baby boy, being induced next week.

We have a daughter called Tilly (not Matilda, just Tilly).

Our surname begins with C and his middle name will be John after my Grandfather.

DH loves traditional names however all of our friends have had boys, so Oliver, Zachary, Liam, Max and a few others we like are out of the running.

We originally decided on Henry but something isn’t clicking for me, DH likes George but our DD is Peppa Pig mad and I just associate it that.

I love names like Beau and Kit but DH won’t entertain them.

We both like Charlie, Joshua and Henry is still in the mix however like I said, it’s just not clicking for me but maybe it will be when he’s born?

Any name suggestions I’d be really grateful for!

Frederick / Freddie / Arthur / Wilfred / Theo / Theodore / Harvey / Leo / Harry ?

Love Freddie, DH likes Arthur but I’m not overly keen, Leo is nice. Freddie and Leo added to my list to discuss with DH! Harry is my BIL (DH brother).

Frederick John.

Thomas.

A good flexible name. Thomas could be a lawyer or work on a building site.

Beau would not be taken seriously as a lawyer and would be ridiculed on a building site.

Henry is lovely! I like Charlie too.

How about:

Tilly & Luca or Lucas
Tilly & Leo
Tilly & Hugo
Tilly & Oscar
Tilly & Theo
Tilly & Albie
Tilly & Archie
Tilly & Rory
Tilly & Ollie
Tilly & Milo

Luca was our top when we first learned we were having a boy but DH went off of it. Love Rory! Added to the list!

My children are teens now- your post makes me smile with memory.

my husband and I had ‘similar but slightly different’ first name choices for our second boy. We hadn’t decided when I went into labour.

By the time we’d made it to the hospital I was 9cm and ready to go. As he dropped me off and went to park the car his words were.., ‘you totally get to chose his name’ 😂

Nathaniel (Nate for short). I’m biased because that’s my son’s name but he’s the only one in his secondary school of 1800 kids so it’s a pretty uncommon name.

Nathan is my DH close friend 😂

You never realise how many people through life you don’t particularly like until you need to choose a baby name!

Two questions:

1 - Why have we got to page 2 and no-one has suggested Balonz?

2 - Do you really want your to admit to your friends that your lovely middle-class name choice was decided by Mumsnet. And even if you don’t tell them, you would always know…

Joshua is nice. Beau and Kit are totally dire. Like from an American sitcom.

I know they’re not for everyone 😂 I still love Joshua I just don’t know if it’s a bit 90s, I went to school with a few Joshua’s in infant, primary and secondary.

Christopher? Constantine? Michael? Oliver?

mamato2soon · 27/08/2025 23:47

Fozzleyplum · 27/08/2025 23:30

Christopher/ Christian, which ticks the "traditional " box for your DH, then you can use Kit as a shortened version.

I think it would just be shortened automatically to Chris which isn’t for me.

Middle class? Why would I be ashamed admitting I asked for suggestions for names, 20 years ago you’d have gone through a baby name book.

I think what’s putting me off the most is anyone shortening it to “Hen” would that happen do you think?!
