I nearly threw up when I saw it this morning - what a horrible shock.

It's a very small town in the Midlands near a city. Yes it's ex-mining but does reasonable ok now, not deprived eg no contextual offers for my dc for uni, but not massively desirable or trendy. Has a Labour MP now but hasn't always in recent years. Voted for Brexit but only just. In 2019 more people voted against Tories AND Brexit than for them - split the vote so we still got a Tory, but still.

In other words, I did not expect this. It's horrible - looks ugly and badly done even before you get started on the thinking behind it. AIBU to ring the council on Tuesday and ask when they are going to deal with this vandalism?

I did a four hour round-trip on the motorway today too and the amount of flags on bridges was shocking - just make it stop.

Nice areas also have racists. The fact you think money makes you less racist is real classim.

Imagine saying the poor people are racists and the rich are not.

Maybe I hold racists to account unlike you. That makes me a better person than ones who turn a blind eye and blame the victims of racism for what the racists do.

Edited

By nice area I meant the people being nice rather than it being a rich area. Perhaps I should have made that clearer.

There are lovely people where I live, I'm sure some of the people in my village are racist but I'm not witness to it. Why do you find that hard to understand.

My husband made me a cup of English Breakfast tea this morning and I was shaking and crying.

He forgot to add sugar. I called the police immediately.

Taking it all seriously I see.

Did you Google who is behind this recent display of flags? Do you understand the intent behind it? Have you any knowledge of the history of fascism and how it grows? Or is it just a big joke?

But they aren't as you live there and you refuse to hold racists to account. So you are one person who is not nice. And if the rest are like you and tell victims of racial abuse they are to blame for it then that is an area of arseholes not a nice area at all.

You blame the victims for walking down the street with a brown person not the person doing the abusing.

Imagine if we all lived like you do, blaming victims. That would not be a nice area.

Now is there a reason you blame the victim not the perpetrator?

You are not standing up for anything! Many of the people you ‘speak for’ also feel worried about the millions of undocumented people arriving! You don’t have to be white to be worried - your racist assumptions are most offensive. You don’t speak for everyone. You really don’t.

They're not assumptions though, are they? It is very well documented that the Raise the Colours campaign is directly aligned with Tommy Robinson. Britain First has contributed 75% of the flags used in this tawdry show of 'patriotism'. Can you not see how aligning yourself with the likes of Tommy Robinson is akin to lying with a dog and getting up with fleas? That's a spectacular failing of self awareness. Also, I'm not speaking for anyone, I'm standing with like minded anti racists who see this campaign for exactly what it is.

Fuck me, all lefties are narcissists 😂 Look at you and your incredible critical thinking skills.

Thanks I pride myself on being better read and better at critical thinking than most on this thread (although not difficult of course).

Millions! This is how you count, pp. Fingers up. One. Two. Three. Many. Trump needs you in his Office of Statistics.

I think I'd quite like it. A nod to St George in England? How wonderful 👍

That's not what this recent rash of flags is about tho, is it? 🙄

LadyPenelope68 · 25/08/2025 12:50

You nearly threw up because of a cross psi ted on a roundabout? Are you always do over dramatic?

Serpentstooth · 25/08/2025 12:50

Well, all narcissists are subject to false pride. Got a mirror to hand?

smallpinecone · 25/08/2025 12:50

The only people not allowed to fly their own flag with pride are English people.

You just don’t see this hand-wringing anywhere else. Canada loves the maple leaf symbol.

Every other nationality can do it, and apparently there’s no problem in flying other nation’s flags here either.

Pride flags, Palestinian flags, Ukrainian flags - we can’t have enough of those.

But god forbid English people feel any sense of pride or civic unity in their flag.

This is what I'm talking to the other poster - the unthinking leftist narcissm that anyone that doesn't think like me is literally Hitler and I'm refighting the second world war from behind my computer screen. Reminds me of Rick from the Young Ones (for those old enough to remember).

You must live a very sheltered life then. Long may it continue for you. How do you feel about Palestinian flags?

We have 0.00028% of our town are immigrants. They're taking over!

Doodadidi · 25/08/2025 12:52

Don’t worry dear- Starmer will likely criminalise the display or generation of flags associated with Britain and its constituent countries and principalities.
However I’m sure other flags, particularly of nations intolerant of rights for e.g. women and homosexuals amongst others, may be tolerated or even encouraged.

You are allowed to fly your own flag on your own property. You are not allowed to hang them from lampposts or paint symbols on roundabouts and zebra crossings.

They suddenly got pride this week but never had it before?

Odd eh?

blackbunny · 25/08/2025 12:52

ninjahamster · 24/08/2025 21:27

ugh. So tacky. If people want to fly the flag then they can do it on their own property although quite frankly, we all know this is not about being patriotic. If it was, they’d have been flying them for years.

This nails it.

Dominoeffecter · 25/08/2025 12:52

It looks trampy, I’m disappointed to see it in my village.

Dominoeffecter · 25/08/2025 12:53

There is nothing prideful about defacing the place you live.

2dogsandabudgie · 25/08/2025 12:55

Fetaface · 25/08/2025 12:39

You literally said you have joined one of the local groups! Duh!

Imagine saying that me walking with my brown partner is the reason I got racially abused and not the fault of the racists.

You don't live where brown people are so there isn't people commenting you mean and because I do and because my partner is brown then it is my fault for living there and having a brown partner and I brought it on myself you say?

If only I lived in a place like yours where they blamed the victims.

What happens if someone in my area gets raped - would you say that was their fault for living there too?

Why do you not think the people who should be blamed for racism are racists and not the victims?

I wouldn't like to live somewhere where they supported racists like they do in your town. Why are they like that? Why do they blame victims where you live and not the perpetrators?

Odd that you say those in your local groups are not your friends but say that the ones in my local groups are. Why is that?

Edited

What on earth are you going on about. I said that the only local group I belong to is the local residents group which doesn't have racist posts on it. You then said that there must be other local groups who do post racist stuff and I should be calling them out. Why? Why should I join other local groups who I have no idea whether or not some of the posts are racist. Are you expecting me to be an on line vigilante?

How do you know whether there are brown people where I live, why are you making that assumption. There's lots of brown people of different nationalities where I live, I have never witnessed any of them being abused.

You were the one who said your Facebook was full of racist comments, which made it sound like your friends were being racist. I don't have that on my Facebook.

Jujujudo · 25/08/2025 12:55

ShesTheAlbatross · 24/08/2025 22:03

The irony.

St George had a Palestinian mother, grew up in Palestine, and is their patron saint.

First off she wasn’t Palestinian, she was Syrian, the town she was born in is now Lod in Israel. Second, if we must insist that she was Palestinian, the modern flag of Palestine certainly isn’t the same as the one you’re referring to which was created around 1964. Go take a google at the flag of that area you are calling Palestine before 1964.
