I nearly threw up when I saw it this morning - what a horrible shock.

It's a very small town in the Midlands near a city. Yes it's ex-mining but does reasonable ok now, not deprived eg no contextual offers for my dc for uni, but not massively desirable or trendy. Has a Labour MP now but hasn't always in recent years. Voted for Brexit but only just. In 2019 more people voted against Tories AND Brexit than for them - split the vote so we still got a Tory, but still.

In other words, I did not expect this. It's horrible - looks ugly and badly done even before you get started on the thinking behind it. AIBU to ring the council on Tuesday and ask when they are going to deal with this vandalism?

I did a four hour round-trip on the motorway today too and the amount of flags on bridges was shocking - just make it stop.

We all know it’s not about the actual flag.

It's about the INTENT behind the flag displays and who is behind the ‘campaign’ 🙄 No prizes for guessing who. Flag twats.

Yokaiwatch · 24/08/2025 22:49

I’m Scottish but I think the English have every right to plaster their own country’s flag wherever they want. If some people associate it with something negative that’s on them. We flag our flag proudly and so should England without fear of being called names.

The Left have been totally embarrassing themselves this past week haven't they? 😬

Whereas you're doing yourself proud with your spamming of this thread.

I've got a funny feeling the English flags might be a bit of a reaction to that - a kind of "No! - This is who we are." No idea, obvs, just throwing that idea out there 🤔

Well it seems to be winding up the obnoxious hard left maniacs no end so I’m all for it.

Don’t forget “lacking in critical thinking”

it’s one of their faves

Ooooh I forgot about that one! 😆

No no, get the left-wing thinkspeaking right. It's flagshaggers! 😆

MistressoftheDarkSide · 24/08/2025 22:52

It would be just a national flag if it wasn't being obviously weaponised.

All this "patriotism" is just a cover for vitriol with an easy target.

I've just seen a video on Facebook showing two self proclaimed "geezers" painting crosses above a parade of shops that included a takeaway. They were telling a small child they were doing it for "their country" and their future. Almost surprised they didn't break out into a chorus of "tomorrow belongs to me". When a woman in her national dress passed by they openly mocked and abused her. They also directed something aggressive at a kid of a out 10 perhaps, who wasn't "white".

So be as "patriotic" as you like, but if you're in favour of this movement, whether you like it or not, that sort of behaviour is what you're sanctioning.

Corfumanchu · 24/08/2025 22:52

YouMightThinkThat · 24/08/2025 21:34

Exactly this and anyone pretending otherwise is either thick or complicit.

Maybe people who feel they are entitled to try to close down conversations by saying anyone who disagrees with them is thick, are the thick ones? Like people who say 'end of'.
Says who?

I don't have to check anything. If you saw what you claim you saw, then show it here. I haven't seen it. As I said, pic or it didn't happen.

FlatFlatEric · 24/08/2025 22:53

If a flag nearly makes you throw up then for God's sake don't ever go to the Sistine chapel...

PruthePrune · 24/08/2025 22:53

OP, I'd quit if I were you. Your post about NI is doing you no favours. We don't need a history lesson.

EchoedSilence · 24/08/2025 22:53

It's a good job they only have to paint a red cross. I doubt they have the brain power or fine motor skills for anything more complicated.

RubySquid · 24/08/2025 22:54

LizzieSiddal · 24/08/2025 21:34

There’s nothing wrong with the English flag when it’s there to celebrate. The low life vandalising public areas are doing it to intimidate people who aren’t white. Anyone saying anything different are either stupidly naive or just plain stupid.

You can be English and not white though

Or like my dad , White and not English lol

ClaireEclair · 24/08/2025 22:31

I’m from Scotland. We don’t think twice about raising our flags. My Mum’s neighbour has the Scottish flag and lion rampant flying all the time in their garden. I don’t get the issue in England.

And in some parts of Scotland (particularly in Glasgow) the Union flag is displayed to convey another message.

Because it’s well used by fascist and racists

So is the Palestine flag.

No no, both can be used interchangeably.

Either way they’re obsessed with flags. They make meaning out of them. They stick-it-to-the-man with flags. “Power to the People!” ✊
