Joint income of 7596 including child benefit

verdict…
more than enough
enough
could be better

i know it’s dependent on outgoings but but as a general income.

I see that the threshold changed for CB, it used to be £50k and you start paying tax and if you got to £60k you would effectively pay it all back so might as well opt out...
Now £60k is the first threshold, but I can't see at which point you'll "not get anything", I find the wording o gov.uk not clear. Can anyone tell me?

Yeah, I'm not really sure.
We haven't claimed it since it started being means tested. We're 95k on one salary (other person not earning much), so assume can't claim.

Armaneeee · 21/08/2025 15:51

How much do you get to save each month?

TheCurious0range · 21/08/2025 16:03

RonnIeAl77 · 21/08/2025 13:30

No, I stopped getting it when my own salary exceeded 50k. So no idea how OP gets it. Our incomes now are 65k and 60k.

You need to check that, the threshold changed, it's now 60-80k you pay a proportion ban if you earn between the two and don't get anything over 80k, that's adjusted net so salary minus pension. On those amounts you can claim it

80k is the top

missrabbit1990 · 21/08/2025 16:05

It’s a stealth boast obvs.

Normally 2000ish.

Ohhh it includes child benefit but you don't use childcare. This seems like such an outdated benefit for high earners, what's it really for

DrCoconut · 21/08/2025 16:23

If it's annual you need to apply for universal credit. If it's monthly you are loaded and in a financial position most people can only dream of

RonnIeAl77 · 21/08/2025 16:26

Bugger, I’ve just realised that my bonus would put me way above. No point in claiming 🤦‍♀️

kleverklogs · 21/08/2025 16:29

Oh not another of these posts.

It’s utterly piffling. Anyone on under £100,000 per month is a pauper dahling.

Scottishgirl85 · 21/08/2025 16:30

This is a really silly question, too many variables and depends on lifestyle. This would be quite low for us.

Fineapple1 · 21/08/2025 17:15

I’m thinking if dh gets the new job i should increase my pension contributions also. Thank you for your insights. Never meant to upset or insult anyone

It’s decent but it’s area specific. Whilst where I am up north it’s a similar level of income to mine and were comfortable, in London we’d struggle.

Hahaha course you didn’t 🙄
You save 2k a month .. most families don’t even have that to live on each month. I suggest you get your goady boasting thread deleted, and take your rubbish elsewhere.

I’m well aware others earn and live on less. I’m also aware we have a good income, I was asking the question as my dh didn’t tend to agree.

So what do you want?
I presume you've told your DH it's a good income. How can a bunch of internet randoms make him see you're right? If he doesn't believe his wife he's not going to believe us lot or the actual stats that are all over the internet

Rubbish. You know exactly what you’re doing. Only you know your finances inside out, only you know what drops you can afford. You don’t need random people backing up yours/his views. Pointless asking here as like I said, most people have to live on less than what you save .. how do you think they can help? 🙄🙄

lazyarse123 · 22/08/2025 15:37

Well we survive on £1750. So it sounds fucking tone deaf to me.

I didn’t ask for help though…

Anyway back in the real world lol.
It’s a —hell of a — lot of money (to me).
It is a couple of grand more than we get monthly and we are comfortable financially. I know people who get nearly half that and do fine (in the north west though) .

Anyone that can afford to actually save £2000 a month isn't living in the real world if they think that's not a good income.

Of course we live in the “real world”, saving doesn’t mean we aren’t subject to the world around us. We save because we’re not very spendy. I don’t get my nails, hair or eyebrows done every month. I get my hair trimmed every 4 months. I don’t buy designer clothing, etc. The only reason we save so much is because it’s not getting spent as such.
