Joint income of 7596 including child benefit

verdict…
more than enough
enough
could be better

i know it’s dependent on outgoings but but as a general income.

OP posts:

Monthly that is a great income I think.

Blondiebeachbabe · 21/08/2025 12:20

Seems good to me. I think your mortgage is huge though. We bring in about £6500 per month, but our mortgage is only £235.

DoAWheelie · 21/08/2025 12:20

It's more than most people will ever see. And more than my entire life savings per month.

Cranberryavocado · 21/08/2025 12:21

I agree with pay more into your pension. If you have spare money then do it.

hangerup · 21/08/2025 12:22

What would the income be if you weren’t taking money from tax payers?

The OPs household pays about 30k in tax a yr & you begrudge child benefit @GreenFlag? How much do you think child benefit is?

Child benefit should be universal as it was in the past

You must know thats unusually teeny though surely?

Classic MNs post. A 1.8k mortgage for a young family is not huge & the majority of people aren't in the position to have a mortgage that's 4% of their income due to house prices & location of jobs.

BauhausOfEliott · 21/08/2025 12:23

I don't think anything about it. It's literally just a number. To some people it's a lot and to others it's not. Your question isn't specific enough to be meaningful, really.

budgiegirl · 21/08/2025 12:23

That's a high monthly income - almost three times the monthly average. So yes, it's more than enough for a very comfortable lifestyle, and it's an amount that most people would love to have.

But I guess if you want to live a more extravagant lifestyle, never have to budget, go on more holidays, drive more expensive cars etc, then you may want to look at higher paying jobs. But there's no need to if you are happy with the life you have now.

PinkyFlamingo · 21/08/2025 12:23

Well since I dont have £16 left over at the end of the month never mind £1600 I'm very jealous!

hangerup · 21/08/2025 12:25

@RonnIeAl77 do you get child benefit?

KilkennyCats · 21/08/2025 12:25

What exactly will you do if everyone tells you it’s not ok, op?!

Tiedbutchorestodo · 21/08/2025 12:27

As a PP mentioned - make sure you / your partner are doing a self assessment tax return every year if either of you earn over £60k as you’ll need to repay some child benefit.

hangerup · 21/08/2025 12:28

@Fineapple1 I think it's good particularly as you are both FT & manage to have no childcare costs.

eqpi4t2hbsnktd · 21/08/2025 12:31

We struggle on more than that- but we're London so paying for everyone else (running off to hide now).

Marie324 · 21/08/2025 12:31

Is this some sort of gloating post? I'm going to have to come off mumsnet.

PoppySaidYesIKnow · 21/08/2025 12:33

I genuinely don’t understand why people come on here and brag about wages, because let’s face it this is a brag. You clearly have enough money for your outgoings so all you’re doing is telling people how much you earn. Good for you. Most people don’t share earnings. It’s called humility.

LastKnownSurvivor · 21/08/2025 12:33

Not a criticism of the OP, but why on earth is our government spunking money on benefits for households with incomes in this bracket?

CreteBound · 21/08/2025 12:33

@Fineapple1 you’re figures must be wrong as there is no gross salary combination that equals that amount monthly and means one of you isn’t over 60k. You owe HMRC money back

Theyreeatingthedogs · 21/08/2025 12:36

Terrible. Work harder.

Sdpbody · 21/08/2025 12:36

GreenFlag · 21/08/2025 12:16

What would the income be if you weren’t taking money from tax payers?

How snippy of you!!

They are each paying £15k a year in tax.

So for both of them working, one family can live for free, how kind of them.

FortheloveofCheesus · 21/08/2025 12:36

Eek I'd want more pension contrib going in. Returns have been poor the last few years. I put 15% in mine (employer adds 10, so 25% in total.

The vast majority of people do not save enough for retirement

Praying4Peace · 21/08/2025 12:37

Fineapple1 · 21/08/2025 11:25

2 dc
no debt
mortgage of 1800
no childcare bill

Well, that is alot

Digdongdoo · 21/08/2025 12:37

I think it's loads and you know it's loads so why are you asking?

hoovermoverupper · 21/08/2025 12:40

We’ve not had a ‘oh look how much I earn’ thread for a while. Guess it was about time.
