Found this bloody weird note….

Bit of a strange one. I finally got around to emptying my son’s schoolbag and amongst the utter rubbish (including a Batman figurine he insists isn’t his!) there was an envelope tucked inside with just “For You” written on it.

Inside was a list of instructions. Things like:

  • “Don’t forget to lock the back door at night.”
  • “Children should never sit on cold floors.”
  • “The blue cup is for milk, not juice.”
  • “Be careful who you trust with secrets.”

I asked DC where it came from and he just shrugged and said, dunno. Asked on my parent friends WhatsApp and they had no idea.

DH says I’m being dramatic and it’s probably nothing, but I feel really weird about it

i don’t even know what I’m asking but, wtf!

I haven’t got that far into the thread. But could it be something to do with a game? Like Roblox?

I played way too much BluePrince and it has riddles like this.

fthisfthatfeverything · 23/08/2025 22:04

A child probs put it in wrong bag

ok1dok1 · 23/08/2025 22:04

sounds like instructions for a video game or something similar to me :))

seanden · 23/08/2025 22:22

We have it drummed into us as school staff that safeguarding is everyone's business. I'd contact school and ask if this is a game/fad that they are aware of and if they can do some investigating. I might not be his, but another child could have put it in his bag because they were scared, or to avoid getting in trouble.

TeaBiscuitsNaptime · 23/08/2025 22:53

I wouldn't worry too much if that was me. In school they often have to write sentences. Someone could have put it in his bag as a joke. If you want to keep an eye out for awhile for other things amiss, then ya, do. But overall I wouldn't overthink it

This. I wouldn't rule out this either!

"What is it, Lassie? What is it, girl? Someone's come out of the well this time? Well, surely that's a good thing, isn't it? What are you barking your silly head off about?"

Sesma · 23/08/2025 23:09

Sounds like that game mentioned upthread that he probably isn't supposed to be playing as it's probably a bit old for him so that was why he said he didn't know when asked about it.

theDudesmummy · 23/08/2025 23:22

Roblox isn't one game, it's a platform with different games on it, made by different people. In general the games would be fine for 10 year olds, but because there is a social/chat element, it needs some supervision of that.

It's either annoying or funny that people are continuing to post possible solutions to the mystery, I can't decide which. But that kind of inattention to updates can be harmful on more serious threads.

theDudesmummy · 23/08/2025 23:29

If you were not aware that he is on Roblox and if he is (the note only suggests that someone he knows is, its not proof that he is) then I would have a talk with him about the chat element and be aware of who he is talking to on the platform.

It's a bit odd but could have been meant for someone else.
I wouldn't worry about it.

I once found a small address book in my work's lost property and in the front were the addresses of all the hotels I've ever worked in & nothing else. Very very odd. Creeped me out a bit but nothing sinister ever happened.

That is really unsettling!

BlueEyedBogWitch · 20/08/2025 00:05

Is it handwritten?

You are not being unreasonable. And anyone that is saying you are over reacting are unfortunately lazy parents that dont understand their responsibilities.

Unfortunately lots of parents give their young children access to the Internet and expose them to numerous (proven and data driven) dangers but dont give a toss so it is no suprise some are brushing this off.

I would be in the school and demanding who wrote the note, if it turns out it was just a fellow student being daft and playing a prank then fare enough, but I would be happy knowing that I have at least made an effort to ensure my child is safe.

theDudesmummy · 24/08/2025 00:14

You'd go to the school and "demand" to know who wrote down a list of phrases from a kid's game? Good luck with that!

DogsandFlowers · 24/08/2025 00:20

meganorks · 20/08/2025 00:27

I wouldn't worry too much. My DD and her mates all seem to be weirdos in their own way. Mad as a box of frogs! They always seem to be saying or drawing weird shit. But they are just mucking about being silly. I'm sure whoever wrote it was doing the same.

Some kids that age have lovely writing too not mine though who write like they are being electrocuted!

I can’t stop laughing about this 😂😂

TGS54 · 24/08/2025 00:47

It has been a while since school ended, whatever is behind this, I think that your child would have by now forgotten who gave this to him.
Maybe it was something they were doing at school? In any case, if I were you I would work on not talking about this too much with him or appearing worried, as this may well scare him more.
If it is a silly children’s ‘prank’ with friends he may even feel embarrassed…
I would, however, keep this note and see someone at school about it at the start of term.
i would also bring up the subject of ‘secrets’ with him at some point but more casually and just to reassure him that he can tell you anything and that you will always love him and be there for him.
i don’t know if this helps? this is what I’d do. I always try to keep open communication with my boys (teenagers!) I think that’s key. If he feels that you trust him and are not judgmental he might say more in time.
Incidentally, I always found I get the most out of my kids when we drive in the car! Something about sitting ‘next to’ rather than ‘in front of’ the child maybe? All of a sudden a question comes up and I realise they were actually scared or confused about something… I hope this helps?

Sounds like the blue whale challenge. Keep your eyes peeled for anything unusual.

The "Blue Whale" thing has been widely de-bunked. It was never, and still isn't, a thing. It was something the grieving father of a teenage woman who committed suicide decided must be to blame. It was invented in grief and there is no evidence that it even existed much less that it led to teenage deaths. There have been copycats, but again, there is no evidence that deaths have occurred as a result.

What is scary is the last point on that list.

The first is the worst imo

Are some of you okay? Imagine saying 'mind your business' to a parent about THEIR CHILD? Your child is more your business than Virgin is to Branson.
