Hi everyone.
TW: this will contain highly offensive language and racism and homophobia.

so I'm dipping my toe back into online dating. Matched with a guy who seemed handsome and his description said he had a dark humour which is something I'd like to think I have too. I recently did a thread of 'dating nightmares' under a different username but hadn't included this as this only happened today!

so, we match, he says he has dark humour and that he needs to establish a 'safe zone.' I ask him to elaborate what he meant in regards to this.

this... this is what unfolded.

message after message after message about immigrants, gays, violence.
he screams abuser, someone that would beat a woman up if she denied sex. I screenshotted, unmatched immediately and reported to hinge.

AIBU to think this is fucking horrendous? Why is the world going this way? I'm sad to say, this isn't the first time I've had the 'safe zone' talk said to me on online dating. But never ever like this.

I wouldn't view myself as particularly 'woke' but my jaw hit the floor with this and it made me sick to my stomach.

I guess my AIBU is - to Jack on dating once and for all? Where are all the nice guys? I'm 31, newly divorced after a long separation and would prefer to be single forever!
posting screenshots waiting for them to be authorised.
I didn't even bother replying as someone like that would never change their ways and I think no matter what I said back I'd get a barrage of abuse. I feel like I need to do more than this but I have no idea what. As said I have reported to hinge and screenshotted everything.

Scary isn't it.

he must be so damn miserable to view the world that way. I just find it so scary. At least he showed his true colours from the off.. but imagine how much more there was.

horrific.

Urgh. YANBU. He sounds unhinged (no pun intended), deeply screwed up and yes, off the chart racist and homophobic. I don't know what policies dating sites have on this sort of conversation and possibly if its a one-on-one message it's subject to different rules from public communications but I'd report anyway: he sounds as if he could potentially be dangerous and should be taken off the market.

To answer your second question: I don't think this means you should give up dating altogether. There are a lot of weirdos and bottom feeders on online dating sites and I came across a lot of sleazes and people who asked me for pictures etc, and plenty who were just odd and their behaviour was unreasonable. One or two with conspiracy theory mindsets shading into antisemitism. But nothing anywhere near this, this is off the chart.

I'd chalk it up to bad luck and give it a wide berth for a bit to recover but it's not usually this bad.

On a happier note, it does confirm that you have good boundaries and can spot a wrong 'un.

HugoSpritzzz · 17/08/2025 18:16

@Thepeopleversusworkyes you're right. This isn't even red flag territory this is a flashing beacon.
how on earth does he ever think anyone's going to think 'oh, he's nice, would love to bring home to my parents.'

I've reported to hinge and they are investigating. Hopefully he gets banned.

Yes that's one thing I'm glad about, that he showed it immediately.

A 12 year old hoping for a reaction, surely?

MarvellousMonsters · 17/08/2025 18:20

That’s not ‘dark humour’ that’s just bigoted hate.

Unfortunately he was verified on hinge.

meaning he has submitted ID / done a selfie video to match it.

he's 31.

Either he gets a perverse kick out of shocking and offending people (there's a lot of those about at the moment) like blokes who flash young women. OR he is doing it to weed out what he believes are "woke folk" and find a fellow traveller.

Either way you're well rid.

Livingthebestlife · 17/08/2025 18:27

It's mad isn't it. I was looking on the FB page for my local area and ended up down a rabbit hole, I knew the country I live in was massively racist, and many bigots, even though everyone claims not to be but gosh the awful comments people posted, similar to those messages and the majority under their real profiles, the anger and hate was astonishing to read, the crazy thing is people who think and write like this, don't think they're saying anything wrong. Unfortunately it's everywhere.

Indeed. And unfortunately the current political climate is empowering these people to feel they can now "say it how it is" on various online forums in a way they wouldn't have done in the preceding 30 years.

What a time to be alive.

Cat3059 · 17/08/2025 18:30

I feel sorry for his sister and his nieces.

JHound · 17/08/2025 18:31

He seems like a tired Edge Lord.

An easy block.

Reminds of what I keep reading about the increasing ideological divide between men and women and the impact on dating.

His “humour” is shoite.

JustSawJohnny · 17/08/2025 18:44

Well, he found a failsafe way to make himself thoroughly unfuckable, that's for sure.

What a giant twat.

You'd be surprised, unfortunately. There will be someone somewhere with a suitably low sense of self-esteem who considers this "edgy". If they never had any success with this, they'd never do it.

Balloonhearts · 17/08/2025 18:47

That's fake. He's just doing it to get a reaction. It's like bigot bingo.

millymoo1202 · 17/08/2025 18:50

Do you have am I dating the same guy in your area? I think I’d post a beware of him with his hinge profile. That’s really disturbing views but at least he showed you who he was

cryinglaughing · 17/08/2025 18:55

How old is he?
What adult writes with that sort of spelling/language.
The intent would instantly put me off but the writing style would be a close second.

Agapornis · 17/08/2025 19:08

I'd like MN to have a topic/database where we can name & shame these men to warn others.

Hopefully will remain single forever.

Shocking, but have faith he does not represent all men.

Yep - report and block. He’s a semi-literate nut job.
