I have, but will not mention names.

Why not? If you have actually found some posts defending what Jones did, then let's see them?

Please quote them here, or if they're on another thread, then post a link.

Or did you perhaps fail to find what you were looking for?

MaturingCheeseball · 18/08/2025 15:04

I would just read some of your own posts, particularly on The Other Thread.

Can you please quote where I robustly defended his throat slitting comments and gestures?

MaturingCheeseball · 18/08/2025 15:10

You are being very aggressive which kind of proves my point.

PandoraSocks · 18/08/2025 15:11

MaturingCheeseball · 18/08/2025 15:07

Not you, but I just read one which was “I’m glad he got off” - so this poster not exactly dismayed by throat-cutting threats.

On this thread?

So someone - sorry "someone" - saying "I'm glad he got off" is as bad as them supporting the vile things he said ?

Right ho. I just thought I would ask for clarification.

If you find a post of mine that is defending RJ, then you have my express permission to cite it. I'm a grown up. I can take it.

Me? Asking you politely to quote something you've claimed I said is "aggressive"? Sorry, "very aggressive".

Alexandra2001 · 18/08/2025 15:13

You said several posters... one person saying "i'm glad he got off..." isn't evidence that this is a widespread view on either thread.

Of the main posters defending the justice system, i've not read of any defending Jones.

ToWhitToWhoo · 18/08/2025 15:18

The only 'two tier justice' is between those who opt for jury trial and those who plead guilty.

Jury trial is something of a gamble: you could get off as Ricky Jones did, or you could get a more severe sentence than by pleasing guilty. But what do you expect the government to do? Ban jury trials in such cases? Or order the jury to deliver a particular verdict?

1dayatatime · 18/08/2025 15:19

Regardless of the point on pleading guilty or not guilty and regardless of the jury's decision the optics of Ricky Jones not guilty verdict doesn't look good and helps to increase amongst many ordinary people the opinion or view of a two tier judicial system.

Just like the Homelessness Minister Rushanara Ali May not have broken any laws but the optics of her ending her tenants rental contract does look good.

OK. I just switched my view to show all posts and searched for the word glad. Not one post said "I'm glad he got off".

So this must be on another thread. Not this one.

I just did an advanced search on the phrase "I'm glad he got off". It brings up @MaturingCheeseball's post, and a couple of other people quoting her post. And it brings up a couple of other posts which have nothing to do with Ricky Jones at all. That's it.

So if anyone did say anything like that - and I'm sceptical without a link - it would seem that @MaturingCheeseball is misquoting it. Or perhaps even imagining it?

And indeed, even if someone did say something along those lines, I would hardly say that such a comment amounts to a robust defence of what he did.

PandoraSocks · 18/08/2025 15:33

I would imagine that a post saying that would have had a lot of very robust posts in response and so would have been notable.

pointythings · 18/08/2025 15:35

Hitchens razor: she who claims people said a thing must prove this. Or it didn't happen.

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 18/08/2025 15:38

MaturingCheeseball · 18/08/2025 15:10

It doesn't prove your point at all. The pp asked you perfectly politely to quote a post from her that backed up the unjust insinuation from you that she had been robustly defending the actions of Ricky Jones.

You called her aggressive because you weren't able to respond with a quote to support your argument.

It's OK to admit that you made a mistake. You assumed that some posters on this thread would be defending RJ and you imagined that you had seen lots of posts along those lines. Now you know that didn't happen... that's good, isn't it?!

It isn't the role of the judicial system to deliver "optics". It is the role of the judicial system to deliver justice as laid down by parliament. If you have a problem with "the optics" then you need to take it up with parliament, No one else can change the law. Not you. Not I. Not the Supreme Court. Not the European Court of Human Rights.

Only parliament.

The jury weren’t politicians. You’re comparing apples and pears. The optics of Ali being a landlord in the first place are shocking.

I really think you need to switch back to GPT-4o, even you couldn't understand that if you read it back.
