"Political prisoners"? You mean racist thugs.

Funnily enough I'm not the stark naked brief so didn't write the title. I'm assuming he/she has legal training. Why don't you read the article if you want to learn more?

GoldThumb · 16/08/2025 10:05

MiloMinderbinder925 · 16/08/2025 09:59

I didn't just ask you for similarities. I said:

I'm wondering why you think the two cases are alike given that you're aware that Connelly pleaded guilty and was charged with different offences.

I answered why I thought they were alike.

Why is it do you think people are comparing these two cases in particular?

Just randomly?

There’s absolutely nothing similar about them in your eyes?

LeftieRightsHoarder · 16/08/2025 10:08

A lawyer said:
“The Jones case is different [from Lucy Connolly’s] because one, he’s facing a completely different allegation: he’s facing encouraging violent disorder.
“And the difference with him is he’s saying: ‘That’s not what I was intended to do’.”

I’m amazed that making a throat-cutting gesture while calling people fascists doesn’t count as encouraging violent disorder.

And as for saying he didn’t mean it — since when does saying “I didn’t mean to do what I did” let you off for doing it? What else could that gesture mean?

We know that encouraging violence against migrants is wrong. But it seems suggesting killing working-class people is absolutely fine.

Again, for the 100th time, she pleaded guilty, he did not, therefore "Reasonable Doubt" comes into it.

"Working class people" who knew putting razors into stickers is now the new benchmark......

You missed out the reason for my question and I'm still interested in your reasoning. Given the differences, ie one pleaded guilty to intent to incite racial hatred and endanger life and one pleaded not guilty to encouraging violence - different crimes - why do you think they're similar cases?

I think it's obvious why the two cases are being compared; ignorance of the facts and obsession with 'two tier policing'.

I wonder if the 'working class' know they're all fascists who put razor blades under far right stickers.

You’re the one who added those parameters, not me.

You’re asking me to argue a point I never made.

I laid out the reason I thought they were similar cases, take your straw man elsewhere.

Those “parameters” are facts. It’s always wise to take them all into account.

LeftieRightsHoarder · 16/08/2025 10:40

She pleaded guilty, he didn’t. Maybe she felt bad about stupidly making a vile comment, which she quickly deleted. Certainly he seems to feel triumphant about making a vile threatening gesture, and getting away with it.

LeftieRightsHoarder · 16/08/2025 10:45

I also learnt here that Connolly was told she would be imprisoned if she pleaded guilty. She doesn’t seem to have had good legal advice, whereas as pp noted here, his played a blinder.

I don’t know if that means he had an expensive defence team whereas she had to rely on legal aid? But it doesn’t look good.

Honestly, this painting of her as a victim is ridiculous She is a nasty piece of work, as is Jones.

No. A strawman argument is where you misrepresent what the other person is saying. I haven't misrepresented what you are saying. You are arguing that the Connelly and Jones cases are similar.

I'm arguing that they're not similar and have explained why. I'm asking you, given the obvious differences, why they're similar. That is not a misrepresentation of what you're saying.

You're trying to deflect because you can't answer the question.

1 and 2 are alike.

How is 1 similar to 2, given ABC differences?

Because of XYZ.

But 1ABC is different to 2ABC.

Yes, I was referring to 1XYZ and 2XYZ.

I asked you how 1ABC was different to 2ABC? You can’t answer.

But I only said 1 and 2, not 1ABC and 2ABC - you’re adding parameters I didn’t initially state.

See! You can’t answer the question!

I believe she had a long history of posting comments that may look really good on a right wing thread but which may have sounded very different when taken out of context and read out in a courtroom. That may have informed the advice she received and took. Her problem (and that of her supporters) is that barristers are not as stupid as them and keep the receipts so to speak. So if she (or they) want to try and play the "we had shit barristers" card, they had better be prepared to pay a lot in damages.

Speaking of which, is not a person allowed to be celebratory when they have been cleared of a serious offence ? It may be distasteful to some (myself included). However it rather underscores that - having been acquitted - reporting around Mr. Jones needs to be a tad circumspect. Unless someone (with very deep pockets) feels like making a thing of it ? No. Didn't think so. Funny that.

Classic straw man

None of the people who feel Connolly has not been mistreated are actually supporting Jones. I'm quite happy to say I think he's let himself down.

However it seems all the shills who feel Jones has been treated leniently (by his peers) won't hear a word against their poster person.

A clear divide in attitudes here.

I’m not wrong?

Your own summary shows it.
Bold 1 - 1 and 2 are similar
Bold 2 - But given ABC, how are they similar?

Again, because XYZ.

If you want me to answer why 1ABC and 2 ABC are similar, you’re going to have to quote me saying that the ABCs are similar in the first place.

I think that's unfair as not all right wing voters are racist. She followed far right accounts and made several racist comments. When arrested she said she'd 'play the mental health card' meaning that she would use the loss of her child as an excuse. She also found the fact that her post had gone viral funny. According to the court, she made comments to staff demonstrating that she didn't think she'd done anything wrong.
