IceInYourVibe · 14/08/2025 14:59

So I’ve been so desperate to lose weight - I put my foot down on Thursday 7th and went on a 1000 calorie a day diet

Also did cardio every day (30 mins) and weights every other day

have lost 11 pounds on first week 💪

Good luck to anyone and everyone on a dieting mission - omg it’s so hard !!

And good luck to anyone on any self improvement mission - whatever it is !

Careful with starving yourself, soon as you start eating properly again you’ll gain really fast. 1500 is more appropriate.

CoralSea · 14/08/2025 15:02

this is far too much and too fast. Slow down. It's not healthy and comes with various risks. Its nothing to be proud off but utter madness. Sorry.

Do you need to share your ludicrous weight loss with everyone? There may be people who think an 11lb loss is something achievable and may try to emulate you. I can guarantee that next week you will not lose 11lb.

Yes I know weight loss slows down the second week - technically actually it’s a little less than 11 lb if I allow for the time of day etc actually

It will be water weight. The whoosh effect. 1-2lb a week is healthy and sustainable long term. In a few weeks you'll be back to old habits because 1000 calories and day plus cardio is completely unsustainable.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 14/08/2025 15:18

When I had Covid I lost 7lbs in a week, 11lbs is crazy! I wasn't eating at all plus I had sickness and diarrhoea, are you sure you've been eating?

Yes I TOTALLY agree with everything in your post

11bs is an exaggeration realistically as I’ve not allowed for time of day etc so perhaps more like 7lb

How much did you weigh to start? The bigger you are the more likely losses will be this big early on. I've lost similar in 1 week to fit into a dress and it was hard going! As other posters have said it doesn't last sadly.

However well done for starting positively good luck for the next few months!

Charlotte120221 · 14/08/2025 15:22

That's not real.

7 x 30 minutes cardio wouldn't even cause 1lb weight loss.

If you've been cutting out carbs then that's all water.

If you agree then why boast about the 11lb???

SoftPillow · 14/08/2025 15:22

Well done on making positive changes. Of course you know that it’s water weight etc, but it still feels good. I bet you already feel better.

I can lose 5 or 6 in a week if I drop to 800 calories. Obviously this is water weight as above, but it feels fantastic either way and is great to kickstart healthier choices

justasking111 · 14/08/2025 15:23

Just work from where you are today, don't be disheartened if it creeps up a bit. A friend only lost one week every 28 days. Hormones, as soon as she grasped this she accepted it.

14 stone 1 to start

Thank you I definitely feel better!

And the kickstart feeling on 800 or so cals is excellent!

well done you,

FlowersFawb · 14/08/2025 15:36

It will just be water weight initially. I lost 8lbs on my first week of MJ...Its not unusual.

Well done :) although it’s unhealthy I do find sometimes for the first week you have to go “extreme” just so you see some weight loss and then it motivates you. This is what I do when I want to lose weight.

Are you going to eat more calories for future weeks now? I’m not sure how long I could sustain 1000 cals a day.

lotsofpatience · 14/08/2025 15:54

That's about 5 kgs. Way too much for one week unless you are morbid obese. How much did you weigh at the start of the process?

Shizzlestix · 14/08/2025 15:55

I think the kickstart is great, but as you know, it’s not sustainable. I lost 18lbs in 2 weeks on a super strict 800 calorie diet, but that was in preparation for bariatric surgery, the ‘liver reduction diet, not necessarily about losing weight, rather literally to decrease the liver so it can be lifted out of the way.

I do think, tho, that a good amount lost does equal motivation, so hopefully the OP will pick up and retain good habits.

Yeah this. 11 pounds weight loss in one week is utterly ludicrous, and no-one should be bragging about it. OR saying 'well done!' Has anyone ever gained eleven pounds in one week? No. Of course not. Ridiculous! 🙄

FluffyWabbit · 14/08/2025 16:01

Very antiquated views about weight loss on this thread.

11 lbs first week is probably mainly water weight and glycogen reduction so weight loss will settle down in future weeks but it's still okay to be happy about losing weight when that's your aim.

It takes a lot of willpower and determination so keep going until you are where you need to be to be healthy!

heroinechic · 14/08/2025 16:04

Well done OP! Whatever the difference time of day makes, it must have felt fabulous to stand on the scales and see such an amazing loss.

Thinking 1000 calories a day alongside cardio is ridiculous and unsustainable isn’t antiquated.

If you say so. Many professionals disagree.
