Does anyone else find this imagery completely inappropriate in this day and age, or am I a prude as my husband so kindly put it? It unnecessarily objectifies women and I thought we’d moved on from this sort of thing.

It's just a pair of legs. Very nice pair of legs btw. It gets people to look and take notice.

Oh well I'm lucky then

You're only in your 40s though. That's still quite young.

Can someone please explain to me why in 2025 women are persuaded to hobble about on high heels. This picture promotes that imo.

I puzzle over this too. In my mind, it's akin to the old Chinese practice of foot binding - something designed to hamper women's ability to walk, let alone run, in an attempt to appear more alluring to men.

lljkk · 13/08/2025 20:16

Those could be guy's legs.

I wonder when my bunions will appear then

I never wear heels these days (don't even own anything 'higher' than a low, chunky heel), nor do I wear short skirts—yet this doesn't offend me in the least. I doubt I would have noticed it.

I've never worn stilettos in my life and I don't think it's offensive.

Who knows? I think most people who have them are older. I know a woman in her 60s who has had a very painful operation for bunions. I don't know her shoe history though.

Actually my mother has them and she was not a high heel wearer.

Bunnycute23 · 13/08/2025 20:20

It's a terrible piece of marketing and looks very outdated.

Also pointless.

I don't think women in stilettos and Robert Palmer frocks on the bus are really:

A: there
B: likely to be standing up when they shouldn't in those shoes.

I did make me laugh though! Until I thought about cost.

ohyesido · 13/08/2025 20:21

I have terrible feet after years of clocking around in stilettos

UsingAMansNameInAWomensWorld · 13/08/2025 20:21

Oh ffs

We can't see the bottoms - it could be a mini skirt, it could be a midi that's pulled up as sat down, it could be a pair of shorts, it could be a dress...

Everyone saying the heels are dated, damn I didn't realise I was so dated. Because I'm just seeing a pair of standard black "smart" heels

I'm betting it did used to be part of a series where another bus had a pair of "old" legs with a stick, a pair of jeans and trainers, a child etc

Wintersgirl · 13/08/2025 20:21

Indianajet · 13/08/2025 18:22

I wouldn't even̈ have thought about it.

Me neither....

VeryStressedMum · 13/08/2025 20:21

It does look like an ad from the 80s but they probably used that image so people would look at it and read it.

Bunnycute23 · 13/08/2025 20:22

AlexisP90 · 13/08/2025 19:50

Does it though? There is 0 indication that this is even a woman...

Whoever it is, they're not the 'standing up' offenders in those shoes!

Bunnycute23 · 13/08/2025 20:22

I think text only would work better for this message.

Yes, the whole thing about the shoes being dated is odd.

I have seen posters up in train stations (Cardiff Central) about the dangers of walking on the lines. Pictures of burnt trainers... just the actual shoes so there is the implication that the burns are on the person too, but that would be too graphic to show.
So, I bet someone would say that no one wears those brand trainers anymore. So the ad must be ineffective and pointless.

Again, if you are talking about it... good or bad.. the ad has worked

1apenny2apenny · 13/08/2025 20:25

@Anchorage56- no-one’s complained. Of course they haven’t because women don’t get listened to anyway. I hate this argument - evidently women are happy to have men on their wards in hospital and in their toilets as they haven’t complained. No complaint does not equal ‘no thanks’.

Women can wear what they like but I’d love to see stats as I think most women wear trousers the majority of the time now.

Its dated and sexist, end of.

Sunaquarius · 13/08/2025 20:25

Mini skirt and stilettos, very obviously sexualizing women's bodies, yeah gross.

So your definition of mini skirt is any skirt that rises above the knee when sat down?

Spindrifts · 13/08/2025 20:27

Well, it is a whole lot better and more artistique than some of the stuff we get shoved in our faces nowadays!

DrinkFeckArseBrick · 13/08/2025 20:27

I thought of the safety aspect of heels. I don't think the message is 'women sit down until the bus has stopped' and its not using sex to sell anything so I don't have an issue (and I do have an issue with a lot of ads in general)

Wintersgirl · 13/08/2025 20:28

You'd be disgusted with me OP, I loved wearing my heels for work, I felt smart and polished.

AliTheMinx · 13/08/2025 20:28

It's not the best ad, but really don't see the issue with it. I agree with your husband. Skirts and heels are perfectly acceptable attire!

Bunnycute23 · 13/08/2025 20:29

I suspect the creative lead might have been taking the proverbial because doing something realistic was vetoed.
