Does anyone else find this imagery completely inappropriate in this day and age, or am I a prude as my husband so kindly put it? It unnecessarily objectifies women and I thought we’d moved on from this sort of thing.

You are assuming it’s a pair of woman’s legs! For all you know they might belong to Eddie Izzard or Grayson Perry!

Thefuture2025 · 13/08/2025 18:18

Its really bizarre! So sexist, bnt also so old fashioned. Weird.

The only people wearing that outfit would be trans women.

Namechangedagain999 · 13/08/2025 19:49

Cross posted yes Eddie or Grayson!

Does it promote it or does it just depicting reality because it's trying to get a safety message across to real people?

Fair point

It's not very representative of women (who uses buses) these days, so it feels it's there to draw attention, but in the process objectifies women, because it's not just any pair of legs.

Does it though? There is 0 indication that this is even a woman...

What do you mean not just any pair of legs? Are these legs special? Celebrity legs?

OneKhakiFish · 13/08/2025 19:56

Not offended, its just a pictorial, gets the message across, i woukdnt givevit a second thought!

Cucy · 13/08/2025 19:57

It’s fine.

If it was a boring pair of legs with trousers on, then less people would take notice.

You have obviously noticed because you made a Facebook and now MN thread about it and so it has done its job.

I couldn't give a fucking fuck.

I swear this country is being overrun by the most ridiculous wave of prudishness.

Totally agree.

1apenny2apenny · 13/08/2025 20:01

My guess is that it’s mainly men that get up before the bus has stopped and that’s who it’s aimed at? Out of all the pictures they could have used of legs sitting down, a man in trousers, children in trousers, a woman in trousers, someone in gym kit (I could go on), they chose a very 1970s picture of a woman in skirt and heels that haven’t been a fashion choice (or indeed IN fashion) for years.

It’s sexist no doubt, but sadly not surprising.

In what way does it ruin health? Interested to know as I wore them throughout my twenties and early thirties and so far my feet and legs are still working in my 40s. Or does it suddenly hit in your 50s 😬

They can cause bunions and other foot defects. They also change your posture which can affect your spine. Some of my friends have horrendous feet!

PInkyStarfish · 13/08/2025 20:03

i typed in pair of legs and Google showed me these -

It's not prudish to not want women to be objectified.

ohyesido · 13/08/2025 20:07

They could be a man’s legs to be fair

BrightLightTonight · 13/08/2025 20:08

Some people just look to find things to offend them. I think OP, you are one of them

LadyLapsang · 13/08/2025 20:08

It would be helpful if it showed a frail person with arthritis who will struggle to hold on if the bus breaks sharply. I had an elderly relative who fell on the bus, breaking a number of bones when the driver stopped sharply. Apart from the driver shouting at them to get up. -they couldn’t - passengers rung for an ambulance, when the family sued, the pay out was less because the bus had not come to a stop before they got out of their seat. Of course, the ad also assumes there is a seat.

Oh well I'm lucky then

Katieandmikeysittinginatree · 13/08/2025 20:09

It’s a woman’s legs.. what’s inappropriate about it?! Get a grip!

amillionandone · 13/08/2025 20:09

I never wear heels these days (don't even own anything 'higher' than a low, chunky heel), nor do I wear short skirts—yet this doesn't offend me in the least. I doubt I would have noticed it.

I am unlucky. I have bunions and I live in Sketchers.

Someone earlier on said those posters have been on that bus for a long time and they just haven't updated them. Obviously they havent had many complaints! Non issue to most people. Why does a woman have to wear trousers anyway.

Fenellasbum · 13/08/2025 20:11

Almost nobody on the bus is dressed like that. Most people have to walk before and after using the bus so they wear something like trainers. The shoes in the picture aren’t comfortable.

So I therefore think the picture is inappropriate.

LillyPJ · 13/08/2025 20:12

ohyesido · 13/08/2025 20:07

I don't think so. Mens legs are usually more muscular.

Clafoutie · 13/08/2025 20:14

SoScarletItWas · 13/08/2025 18:10

I think using and objectifying women to sell stuff is the very definition of sexism. Don’t get me started on why it absolutely HAD TO BE a pair of high heels and a mini skirt to make the point.

edit for typo

Edited

Exactly. There is a reason why a woman’s legs rather than a man’s were used.
Agree with others that it looks like something from the 70s/80s
