Does anyone else find this imagery completely inappropriate in this day and age, or am I a prude as my husband so kindly put it? It unnecessarily objectifies women and I thought we’d moved on from this sort of thing.

Get a grip

I'm not sure. They could have used a more neutral image - jeans and trainers perhaps - so perhaps this is using a young woman's legs to grab attention. Is that inappropriate? (I do wish she wasn't wearing high heels but that's because I don't like high heels and wish women didn't wear them.)

You don't have to wear them of course, but let other women wear them if they want to!

Mary28 · 13/08/2025 19:22

There's no getting away from the fact that it's a pair of legs in high heels and a short skirt though. So yeah, I don't like it either.

Dangermoo · 13/08/2025 18:24

It's like a throw back to the 80s. Of course women, wearing stilettos are far more susceptible to falling over, on a bus. Patronising and yes, sexual objectification. I agree with you, OP.

I mean it’s not even as though the majority of women wear stilettos full stop never mind on the bus! I thinks it’s also the fact that the legs go on naked forever so of course she’d have to be wearing that other cliche of a woman’s matching attire to high heels - a mini skirt because god forbid they show legs with a knee length skirt!

Also, to get their point across about safety it would make more sense to focus the instability issues at pensioners surely so perhaps a pair of legs with a walking stick resting nearby would make more sense. Those legs look like they belong to a healthy woman who I’m sure can right herself well enough if she does stumble a little!

I'm not stopping them! I just wish they wouldn't ruin their health for no good reason.

OwlsR · 13/08/2025 19:27

Can’t see the problem. It’s a pair of legs of a person sitting. Looks old fashioned but it gets the message across. I find many other things more offensive and worrying than that.

ilovesushi · 13/08/2025 19:27

Very 1980s. I am expecting big old shoulder pads, red lipstick and a perm with lots of hairspray. Actually makes me feel very nostalgic. I'm not upset by any potential sexism, it just feels very dated. Does anyone commuting by tube still wear heels to the office?

kim204 · 13/08/2025 19:28

Very dated and out of touch. You really don't need a pair of legs on a sign to remind you to sit down. Especially not a women in high heels and a mini skirt.

In what way does it ruin health? Interested to know as I wore them throughout my twenties and early thirties and so far my feet and legs are still working in my 40s. Or does it suddenly hit in your 50s 😬

I think they are more likely to keep the high heels at the office and wear trainers for the commute, but that has been the case for years and some are presumably going straight to meetings.

CharlieEffie · 13/08/2025 19:31

Its definitely inappropriate for this day and age because everyone is a snowflake these days. Its a pair of legs for goodness sake 😅

AuntyDepressant · 13/08/2025 19:32

I was expecting full frontal nudity . I couldn’t get excited about it. Would you prefer to look at swollen ankles with odema?

Ooooh... Plot twist!

Wasn't my best date let me just say that...

Im joking but I do know men with fantastic legs

Tartantotty · 13/08/2025 19:33

Lots of ads objectify men in a physical way too. Yes, you're pretty prudish if this ad is worrying you. More important things to debate, surely.....

I can see what you mean, but I would imagine someone with mobility issues would be aware of their vulnerabilities and stay seated until it is safe to rise anyway.
A younger and more able bodied person, but in the wrong shoes... maybe not so much. And rushing to get to work.

Anchorage56 · 13/08/2025 19:19

So you honestly think they designed a whole safety campaign only aimed at women in heels? It doesnt say "women in heels please remain seated until bus stops"

Then why illustrate it with an image of a woman in teetery tottery heels?

I did see a man walking through my town centre. He was a silver fox with a glorious beard and hair.... but was wearing a dress and high heels and had the figure to show it off. And damn, he rocked the whole outfit and he walked like he was born in heels.

DinoLil · 13/08/2025 19:37

It's just pointing out safety and high heels on a moving bus aren't ideal. But it's done its job because you've made note of it and, now, so have we!

Because they are an example of more unstable footwear so it gets the message across. But that doesnt mean its only women in heels that should remain seated, which was your take on the message.

Kerry71 · 13/08/2025 18:49

My mood probably isn’t helped by the fact that when I posted this on my towns Facebook group asking what on earth the bus company were thinking with this, the replies were mainly from men. One charmer replied ‘they are probably thinking cracking legs, I wonder what her t**ts look like’ 🙄

Oh no, you posted it on your local Facebook group???

Sera1989 · 13/08/2025 19:40

I can’t remember the last time I saw someone wearing heels like that on the bus. That aside, I don’t really see the issue. Some women wear heels, some wear skirts and dresses. If I was in charge of this poster I’d probably say “there’s no reason why she has to be in a skirt and not trousers” which is true, but women do sometimes choose to have bare legs.

I think the reason they had to choose a woman for the poster was because men on bus seats have their legs wide open and that wouldn’t fit on the page! But this bus lady has squeezed herself as narrow as possible even though it’s only a photo

Not in those heels.....

I am reminded of the blooper videos of models on catwalks wearing heels, who suddenly appear to lose the bones in their ankles. It is like their ankles have turned to jelly and they lose the ability to walk.

Maia77 · 13/08/2025 19:48

It's not very representative of women (who uses buses) these days, so it feels it's there to draw attention, but in the process objectifies women, because it's not just any pair of legs.
