To not be fazed by job interviews and to find it odd how much anxiety they cause for others?

I’m not saying I enjoy them but I just don’t get nervous. I prepare, I show up, I speak clearly and that’s it. It’s not something I dread or overthink. But I’ve noticed a lot of people talk about interviews like they’re this massive ordeal and it’s made me wonder if I’m missing something, or if others are overhyping the stress.

AIBU to think interviews don’t have to be that big a deal?

YANBU at all not to be fazed by job interviews. It's a useful (if unusual) trait.

YABU to find it odd that they make most people nervous. The reasons for that are so obvious that it's baffling that you don't understand. Either that or you're being disingenuous.

Give over. It’s a username generated by Mumsnet when you sign up. Have a rest.

Wow, you signed up just to make this earth shattering post?

Read the room. I’m not fazed by dentists, in fact I like going, but I seldom find the need to crow about it.

How do you deal with anxious colleagues or people you manage? If you find such behaviour odd, you must struggle a lot; maybe some of us here can help you and give you tips?

I don’t struggle, I just approach it differently and try to support others in the way that works for them.

Bully for you. I don't get phased by interviews at all but it's totally understandable a lot of people would be.

People are not all the same,I believe other examples may exist around this 🤔

You're my hero!

You must live a very cushty life op where getting a job won't effect you financially or emotionally?.

Can't you comprehend that there are people who an interview success will mean they can pay their bills and put food on the table - why wouldn't they be nervous about that panning out well.

Or the interview is for something that could literally change their life/ realise their dreams.

Or could be someone who has crippling anxiety and trying to show someone who you don't know what you can do in a short interview they understandably find it stressful!

It's not hard to imagine a million scenarios why some people will find interviews difficult. Why are you finding that so hard to understand?

Eventmrs · 14/08/2025 12:15

When you are invested in something and it's important I feel it's only natural to be nervous. I find that if you are not nervous you probably don't care as much.

Should be a nice AMA thread 🤣

Meandmyguy · 14/08/2025 14:57

I'm the same as you op and I can't understand why people get nervous.

It's just a chat to me.

newyearsresolurion · 14/08/2025 22:39

Am good with exams but terrible at interviews. I just get awful anxiety , heart palpitations and I forget how to speak

Yes, I’ve been offered every job I’ve interviewed for.

I’ve got an interview coming up. What is the secret?!

I hate them. I have ADHD and autism and I know I come across as weird. So I try to mask as much as I can which takes so much effort that I lose my thoughts altogether. And I know I do this so I’m up to high doh before every interview.

I am rather surprised you lack empathy so much.

Same here. Also, it’s devastating when you’ve spent weeks preparing for an interview and you stumble over one answer and your mind just goes blank.

Zanatdy · 14/08/2025 23:03

I just interviewed 11 people last week and a real mix of those who are very confident and not phased at all by interview conditions, and a couple mega nervous where it was a little painful at times. I’m a little in the middle.

Letitgoooletitgooo · 14/08/2025 23:49

Maybe the jobs you apply for just aren’t very competitive and don’t involve comprehensive preparation including a presentation ? No need to be nervous then , just a review of a website & practise some competency based questions - not all job interviews are that simple OP…

pushthebuttonnn · 15/08/2025 02:51

I'm not a good speaker and although I am a competent worker I can't articulate myself well. Which is why I feel so nervous at interviews. Some people are great at speaking , perhaps they have an advantage a interview stage.

See that's just the extreme other end of the scale to OP and just as off putting. Wild behaviour.

I think it was a joke
